To think that Victoria Beckham is a bit of a national treasure?

I like her.

She works hard, has raised 3 sons and seems to do so well, was successful in one career (no matter what we may think of the Spice Girls), is supportive of her husband yet has been successful in starting another career.

I love the design of her dresses.

I think she is a good egg. God knows why she inspires such vitriol.

'loving j-los arse, you could keep books on that' Or a mug of tea

Mines got the same mass but is the thawed out version.

tartyhighheels · 26/04/2010 20:23

I think the reason people dislike her is thtashe has done well, she is married to a nice and really good looking man and has a great life - we British always hate that don't we?

I really like the pair of them, they both work hard and they do an awful lot for charity which they are under no obligation to do.

I do think the pair of them are national treasures - they do no harm and always seem to come across as nice people in an extraordinary position.

DeborahDevonshire · 26/04/2010 20:24

Alan Bennett and Michael Palin are national treasures as well.

Oh I still like her. She does inspire dislike but i am not sure why.

Lol at beetroot.

cocolepew · 26/04/2010 20:24

How does she work hard though? She appears to spend most of her life on a plane.

cocolepew · 26/04/2010 20:25

Unless she's a trolly dolly, then fairdos

HerBeatitude · 26/04/2010 20:26

Not yet she isn't.

But I know what you mean she's a bit like the queen. It's getting harder to dislike her and eventually you get quite fond of her. I think it's just longevity and not doing anything particularly dreadful that confers national treasure status. Or perhaps just that I'm getting old and soft in the head.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/04/2010 20:26

"I think the reason she's not liked in Britain is because she obviously tries hard. She 'networks' etc/promotes herself and people don't like that."

Yep, that sums up in a nutshell why I don't like her. Please please explain to me what there is to admire in a person who networks and promotes herself/himself?

Shallow meaningless vacuous rubbish.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/04/2010 20:27

"she is married to a nice and really good looking man and has a great life"

pmsl!

traceybath · 26/04/2010 20:29

Because bibbity it makes her succesful in business.

Her fashion line despite all the doubters is doing very well and a lot of that is down to her self-promotion and getting J-Lo, stars at the oscars wearing her dresses.

Of course its shallow but didn't they just go up in the times rich list too.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/04/2010 20:31

But - Tracey - is she happy?

If going up in the Times Rich List makes you happy then that is exceedingly sad imvho.

giveitago · 26/04/2010 20:33

She doesn't smile as because she's got really bad teeth for a celebrity.

YABU. She might be OK ie hanging in there but national treasure?

traceybath · 26/04/2010 20:33

I suspect she's pretty happy.

She's got 3 dc's, a DH she appears to like/love and no money worries.

But who knows really?

cocolepew · 26/04/2010 20:35

There's no way she designs the dresses. There was an article a while ago with an exact style of dress as one of hers. It was by a Russian designer who had lent it to VB to wear over a year before hers came out.

mrsruffallo · 26/04/2010 20:37

She is famous, and that's about it
I don't know what there is to admire about that

Whelk · 26/04/2010 20:42

She wears most of her clothes once,
she spends a fortune on her image
she barely eats to stay that skinny
she never smiles
she has openly said she has never read a book

Yup- perfect role model for my dds.

LauraIngallsWilder · 26/04/2010 20:43

I would like and respect VB if she either ate more often (and sensibly) and stopped moaning about her skin, her scrawny neck etc (which would be helped if she ate more!!)

Or if she said "Actually Im anerexic"

But to spend years existing on almost nothing and then moaning about xtz all the time

Arghhh

YABU
Plemty more worthy national treasures than her sorry

traceybath · 26/04/2010 20:43

She did not say she'd never read a book - that was made up.

Oh dear, begins to realise I know way too much about VB.

traceybath · 26/04/2010 20:46

God, look at me - defending her like I know her.

This is what sleep deprivation and too much grazia does

LittleSilver · 26/04/2010 20:49

Beautifully put onepieceoflollipop

DeborahDevonshire · 26/04/2010 20:50

This was only lighthearted really. OK national treasure going too far. I don't suggest that she is a role model, but I do think she is far better than the vast majority of twats which pass for celebs nowadays.

OP posts:
Whelk · 26/04/2010 20:50

lol at Tracey!!

Whelk · 26/04/2010 20:52

'she' as in myself - not Tracey

traceybath · 26/04/2010 20:54

Don't worry - I don't think vogue counts as a book does it?

scottishmummy · 26/04/2010 20:55

aye raised her kids single handedly with tribe of nannies and struggled to carry those huge granny bags and totter in vertiginous heels whilst balancing her plastic tits

and she is a just a regular working mum

ah bless

Joolyjoolyjoo · 26/04/2010 20:56

I don't claim to like or dislike her, as I don't actually know her!

I really HATE the celeb culture we seem to have developed, though, so I dislike what she stands for, which seems to be that the road to happiness is being starvation thin, rich, married to a celebrity rich husband and famous more for appearing in public than ny real talent or serious contribution to society.

I would be devastated if my dd's aspired to be like her when there are so many more worthwhile things they could do with their lives. I don't treasure her at all, sorry!
