unles you want to talk about anal sex which is hilarious. and never offends anyone it seems.

if oyu dare take the pis out of anyone its automatically offensive

( and im going out in a min so dont do the old "come back here op and defend yourself routine")

I think there's a really unhappy contingent who are just taking things out on other people. Someone on the other thread described them as the 'Professionally Offended' which seems pretty apt to me. Why bother with AIBU if it offends so much?

I had a bit of a hissy fit this week on some daft AIBU re smoking in parks ( why I allowed myself I'll
never know), so I know that sometimes it's possible to lose perspective, but the 'oh but you're slagging chldren/ parents with SN, I feel everyone's judging me for giving my child organic apple juice' are charmless and humourless.

If we are worrying about serious shit not entertaining enough for you why don't you go over to netmums and point and laugh at their disabilities/sexuality/whatever?

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 20:18

YANBU

There have been a few threads recently that have suffered from SOH failure.

That is Sense of Humour, not Show of Hands

BitOfFun · 17/04/2010 20:23

ShowOfHands failure is always devastating though, to be fair.

Goblinchild · 17/04/2010 20:24

Having a sense of humour is a wide spectrum though, so you are bound to get people laughing at something that someone else finds offensive.
I find a lot of things here very funny, all the cat's bum mouths and Les Dawson bosom-heaving. It's mostly light relief for me.
But some things I find are just not funny, so I say my bit and sometimes leave the thread.
Not lost my sense of humour, I'm just selective. Like everyone else.

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 20:27

yes, SOH is very subjective.

But if someone posts an obviously jokey post and everyone goes catbumface, even when the OP explains that it was not meant seriously, then it is a shame.

I could cope with a wink, or even a nudge. It's LOL I can't stomach.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/04/2010 20:32

I do think thereare less side splittingly funny threads recently.

I haven't spat tea on my keyboard in a long time.

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 20:33

There was an accident themed one yesterday that made me snort

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/04/2010 20:36

I was about to say I love a good snort but feel that it may be miscontrued

foureleven · 17/04/2010 20:37

Its the ones who go through your AIBU topic with a fine tooth comb then pull you up on anything that could possibly be construde as ignorant then delibrately misinturpret your meaning in order to make you feel like an inconsiderate twat.

Actually most annoying is when you are clearly being general (and sometimes knowingly irrational)and feel no need to spell out that disclaimers obviously apply, but someone will come on 2 pages down the thread with all sorts of details about how they have a disabled child, a lesbian mother and a one legged trans gender husband and how dare you insult them....

foureleven · 17/04/2010 20:39

PS Juno; my nan has a collostomy bag and the fact that you said 'take the piss out of anyone' in your thread really offended me if Im honest.

BuzzingNoise · 17/04/2010 20:42

Oh God I so agree with the OP. So often now you can try to put a witty (or maybe not so witty, but funny nevertheless) comment into a thread and a few posters will jump right back at you with 'was that aimed at me?' and 'what do you mean by that?'

Now, who have I offended by saying 'oh God'?

VinegarTits · 17/04/2010 20:43

i blame the volcanic ash

MmeLindt · 17/04/2010 20:46

Volcanic ash or Michael O'Leary

I find that you can blame O'Leary for pretty much anything and everyone will agree with you.

MillyR · 17/04/2010 20:47

I think is a bit over-sensitive if a poster gets offended by people not liking their supposedly comedic posts. We're not obliged to find bigots or whoever amusing.

blinks · 17/04/2010 20:48

As a relatively new poster, I've found MN to be just as cliquey and opinionated as everywhere else. And if you have your own mind and ideas about a thing...heaven help you.
Doesn't stop me reading and posting though.
