I have been a poster here for seven years, my first post was asking for help after a DX on DS1 regarding medication, I was overwhelmed by the amount of people who took the time to respond and give advice and share stories.
I remember there being a lot of jokes and support, one poster who lost family in 9/11 was an inspiration and at any time day or night there was someone about for a chat, it made night feed more fun.

Yes there were times when people "fell out" this is life, and the odd nut job who tried to convince people that 4 times the amount of calpol was safe but on the whole it was a nice place to be, however just lately (mostly since AIBU was added) it seems people are getting really nasty.

No longer can you have a good debate with out the usual stupidness and name calling, if you question immigration there is no debate you just get called racist, people with problems get called troll, the term Jog on is used daily as is daily mail reader, and I ask myself when did this site become a playground with the childish name calling, where are all the grown up, funny, articulate women who you could have a grown up discussions with.

It is so boring seeing the same old faces spouting the same old crap lines.

I guess someone will say if I don't like it leave, and I just might do that as mumsnet is not the place it was

Start a thread asking these questions challenge her to join it, I'm sure you'll get lots of supportive repsonses and DP will get lots of greif if she chooses to join.

Don't follow her onto an irrelevant thread and make this an issue all over the boards.

Hi all, noticed the topic has changed slightly but wanted to say i got pissed off at mn, had a break and a sulk came back and happy. I couldn't of coped without the support over my mc and love the 10/10 antenatal group im in, so supportive. Their is alot of good in mn but i agree some people can go over the top on nasty even in threads that are not AIBU.

daftpunk · 23/03/2010 17:43

typing with one hand here >

good idea about starting another thread about immigration....i'll talk to you as much as you like....

we're taking this thread in a direction i don't think it was meant to go in.....

Emigrant · 23/03/2010 17:46

If you go back in the thread there was a post complaining about not being able to talk about Emigration like MN used to.
I was lurking and just laughing at the thread until then.It made me sad and feel the old fear.

piscesmoon · 23/03/2010 18:09

If you genuinely want advice and support, you will get it. If you have strong views and want to justify them by having general agreement-then you won't get it! If you want everyone to think you are wonderful, you will be disappointed.
Anyone needs to think very carefully before they start a post on AIBU.

Emigrant · 23/03/2010 18:10

Oh and daftpunk and others, everything I have written is 100% true.
However, I am white and come from Northan Ireland. My father was in the forces and has several service medals fighting for this country out in Aden.My uncle was a catholic policeman and was especially targeted for it by the IRA.
We left when a ex RAF personal was murdered by the IRA.
When my parents got marred my dad wore his uniform in there wedding photo and they could not put it up incase someone saw it where we lived.
My cousins were intern for 6 years with out trial for membership of the IRA, they were not members. They were torchered by special branch.
My parents left Ireland originally as they couldnt find decent work due to being catholics. We left when I was 16 because some people wanted to kill my father.
Things like that make you see things differently.
Nothing is ever simple.
And the nightmares dont go away.

Emigrant · 23/03/2010 18:26

Oh yea I was born out in the far east while my folks were on a tour of duty.Im hopeing I am not to be sent back to my place of birth.

MadameDefarge · 23/03/2010 18:29

Emigrant. I'm sorry for what you and your family have been through, and having also left N Ireland due to the troubles I do understand.

But I do think it was wrong of you to misrepresent yourselves as migrants who would need to claim political asylum. Coming from N Ireland you of course had the right of residence in the UK.

It is an emotive topic, and we do need to be as rigorous as possible.

And again, do start a thread about it if it interests you, but don't harangue one individual about their beliefs where it is not appropriate.

Emigrant · 23/03/2010 18:31

Lucky us eh?We were the right colour.

MadameDefarge · 23/03/2010 18:32

No. We were citizens of the UK already.

Emigrant · 23/03/2010 18:34

What about all those places the uk clamed as theres

Emigrant · 23/03/2010 18:35

'We' went to live all around the globe. And called it part of England.

MadameDefarge · 23/03/2010 18:36

Oh do go and start a thread elsewhere. I am still shocked at your (at best) disingenuous (at worse) misleading posts.

If a woman was sat in her kitchen with her deportation papers in her hand, telling daftpunk about how she was terrified of being returned to somewhere that were she was beaten and raped, crying her eyes out with her children around her frightened,
I have a feeling daftpunk would try to help her, I really do.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/03/2010 19:08

I did not see that bit of steerage coming

daftpunk · 23/03/2010 19:14

Emigrant;

Sorry I had to disappaer for a bit..

Look, if you want to talk about the BNP then I suggest you start a thread in the politics section..honestly, you will get quite a few replies...

...But the one thing you have to remember about any political debate is this;

..It can get very heated and you wont always like what's being said...esp if someone has very right-wing views.

I have read your posts..and I'm afraid you come across a someeone who has no real understanding of how the BNP work....they will not deport anyone by force..(unless you are a criminal or illegal immigrant) ...I would advise you to check their policies...it clearly states that.

So..if you are not in this country illegally you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Hullygully · 23/03/2010 19:14

Can't believe I've never seen Big Leggy

Well howdy do dah.

Hullygully · 23/03/2010 19:16
