I don't know this girl well, just know her through someone else - but she's young (late teens) and pg with first baby

she said to her friend "Ugh, no, I won't be breastfeeding, XXX (partner) hates it, he says it's gross and like an animal"

who are these people who think like this? Where has it come from?

OP posts:
Lucyellensmumma · 22/02/2010 16:48

its ok coldtits, you dont have to lie to me, i said i think people should give it a go, i am genuinely perplexed by those to claim to be revolted by it although i can understand the consternation regarding the sexuality of breasts, i felt that too. I think you are getting the wrong end of my stick - I am very pro Bfing but in no way anti formula, in fact i think think formula is the best thing invented since the internet!

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2010 16:52

Ofcourse breast feeding is like an animal. It's what mamals do.

The comment just goes to show how influential partners can be when woman decide whether to breast or bottle feed.

This attutude was quite common in the 70's wasn't it?

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2010 16:53

Wasn't the internet invented long after formula milk?

pigletmania · 22/02/2010 16:54

OMG LEM this is what is wrong with bf promotion. Sorry but your last post does nothing to promote bf and actually can put people off, and make people feel bad. That is why so many women feel guilt and sadness because of posts like yours. What in the night, bf not working, drs off and not on call what do you do. Obviously you do not have a clue how its like on the other end. Sorry to use this term but LEM you do sound like a bf nazi, your attitude is dreaful.

pigletmania · 22/02/2010 16:55

Why should i write an essay to get formula milk, my baby needs it now! now next week ffs

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/02/2010 16:56

please can we stop calling people nazis

tethersend · 22/02/2010 16:56

FioFio sums it up; brilliant.

coldtits · 22/02/2010 16:56

I've explained very, very clearly why it repulsed me. Either you didn't read it, don't believe it, or don't understand the words I used. I fail to see how you can still be perplexed.

pigletmania · 22/02/2010 16:57

LEM are you for real

'actually the more i think about it, the more i think people should have a legitimate reason not to bf and that when they are applying to buy formula they should have to submit a three page essay outlining their reasons for not BFing before they are then given a license to buy formula!

shakes head in utter that there are views like this still. This is why people use the term bf nazi

pigletmania · 22/02/2010 16:58

sorry hobnob thats the only way to describe the post by LEM

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/02/2010 16:59

I'll say it again please stop calling people nazis it's offensive and disproportionate.

Lucyellensmumma · 22/02/2010 17:00

Piglet, you shoul know by now that i am very real indeed - that post however was a joke!

Lucyellensmumma · 22/02/2010 17:01

oh i dont mind hobnob she knows i don't mean it - i'll just goosestep off and put my big old thigh length boots on!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/02/2010 17:02

Piglet the word nazi is never an appropriate one to use

posieparker · 22/02/2010 17:03

We can't advocate the benefits of breastfeeding because it makes some women feel bad?

It is ridiculous to have a baby growing and kicking inside and not want to breastfeed, without a very very good reason.

porcamiseria · 22/02/2010 17:03

I dont think the middle class bfeeding mafia image helps BF, in fact it hurts it.
they should pitch it differently

Its free!
Its portable!
Its always the right temperature!
Its available 24/7!
Breastmilk, for mothers and babies......cheap, easy and healthy.....

anyway, the nazis piss me off and make me feel defensive and I BF! I dont want to be associated with those twunts!

Intereestingly the Italians LOVE BF, its the whole food/nutrition thing

Lulumaam · 22/02/2010 17:04

agree hobnobs, there was a whole thread about the phrase breastfeeding nazis the other day

i really think that there are many other words that oculd be used ot portray such strenght of feelingm, without reverting to nazi

tethersend · 22/02/2010 17:04

Unless describing the party led by Adolf Hitler and elected in Germany in 1933.

Then it's appropriate.

LittleMrsHappy · 22/02/2010 17:05

LEM, that your opinion, and fank fook you are a minority with your extremist views on what you consider to be "pro BF"

weather you choose to acknowledge that BF is a choice, and a choice that some people do not want to do for what ever reasons is up to them!

I cannot understand why you would be perplexed to a decision that is absolutely nothing to do ith you! FULLSTOP!

you feed your child how you see fit, as ultimately that was your choice, and allow other to do so about their children!

it got nothing to do with you, your opinion is just that a opinion, and fank fook it just that also!

Lucyellensmumma · 22/02/2010 17:07

i really was just kidding piggy - i really really was, honest!! I was in that very situation you describe, needing formula in the middle of the night for my poor starving child - seriously, my milk hadnt come through and the midwife sent DP off to the supermarket to get some SMA. She then proceeded to offer me loads of support to enable me to BF and i am eternally grateful for her - interestingly she was a big strapping german woman and DP said, blimey shes a bit scary isnt she!

FWIW if anyone really though what i posted there i would call them a nazi too - i was joking and now everyone is all up in PC arms and i think im a very naughty mumsnetter who should know better than to post naughty posts on BF threads.

Coldtits - please dont think that i think mums who dont bf are bad mums, i dont

tethersend · 22/02/2010 17:07

"It is ridiculous to have a baby growing and kicking inside and not want to breastfeed, without a very very good reason."

Who judges whether the reason is 'very very good', posie? You?

I repeat my earlier assertion, I can only assume that because babies' welfare is such a concern, you must be supporting charities such as the NSPCC who campaign tirelessly for infant welfare.

coldtits · 22/02/2010 17:09

Arf
I should really know better by now, shouldn't I?
