...to think that a man who "doesn't drive" is not remotely sexy

I saw this on another thread (doesn't matter which) and didn't want to hijack it with my silly ramblings

but, I can't imagine being with a man who "doesn't drive" (disabilities notwithstanding)

just someone too lazy to learn, who would let their OH chauffeur them around

there is something very appealing (sexy) about a man who drives well

mind you, I have a thing about a well-shaped wrist on a man , and driving in short sleeves shows that off to perfection

am I showing my age here ?

What a shallow view some people have!

My dh passed his driving test first time twenty odd years ago but didn't enjoy it, and has never felt the inclination to get behind a wheel since! I don't drive either but we have three children, manage to get everywhere under our own steam, don't rely on anybody and the children are very comfortable with public transport, taxis and cycling.

As we're both lucky to earn well, we spend the money we don't use on a car, on transport as and when we need it. If we go on holiday we'll taxi to the airport and back, an hour each way but prob works out cheaper than driving up and paying parking fees anyway!

I see one poster desribed men who don't drive as being "wussy". Well, once a week I look after my friend's two children while she works, and as she doesn't drive my dh ferries them back home across town by bicycle trailer, they love it and my friend is very grateful!

Some years back a neighbour of ours needed fence panels which in no way would have fitted inside a car, so he asked my dh to collect them by trailer for him to save the delivery by van charge! My dh was very happy to do that and refused to take payment which his friend was offering.

Oh and last guy fawkes night a few of us were looking around for a good fireworks display to go to, but there didn't seem to be one locally. So we invited the neighbours and kids' friends round, and put on our own! My dh set off all the fireworks, we put on a great display and guess who was standing around looking anxious, murmuring they wouldn't have the guts to set off fireworks themselves? It was a couple of dh's friends, sports car drivers! In my experience, men who don't drive aren't "wussy" at all!!

it's bigotry, onthepier, that's what is it, bigotry!

i played my ace- the robert pattison card but none of these oldies rate him.

oh and i think DH pees sitting down if pooing.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 14:42

Why pee sitting down?

i asked DP this - he says (a) it is far safer whilst pissed to piss sitting down (and yes he still has to point in downwards) and (b) it's nicer to sit down than stand up (read between the lines - he's lazy).

iggypiggy · 01/02/2010 14:47

Whilst I get all the points about non- drivers thinking of the planet/ being fitter etc. I still think everyone should be able to drive - and then make the conscious decision not to for whatever reason.

Dunno why - is not logical. Feel same about women... Just feel that driving is something you should learn to do - even if you then choose not to use that skill.

What if you need it at some point in your life? You never know when you might?

expatinscotland · 01/02/2010 14:54

'Of course Robert P can't drive. He is only about 12.'

And he's a fem!

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 14:58

DD has pictures of Rpbert P all over her wall. And Zach Ephron. And Robert Downey Junior

But she is 14. Sje is allowed to have appalling tastes in crushes. I don;t get the masses of thirtysomething mothers who have crushes on him though. He is pigeon chested and prettier than me!

expatinscotland · 01/02/2010 14:59

'And Robert Downey Junior '

At least she's got some taste!

Oh, Robert Downey Junior knows how to drive, too.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 15:01

Oh yes I see the point of Robert DJ (very good looking, and very good and sext in Sherlock Holmes) but what a wierd crush for a young teenager to have.

Mind you I used to have a crush on bloody Anthony Hopkings when I was a teen. What a strange kid i must have been!

AnyFucker · 01/02/2010 15:24

I had to have a little giggle at substituting car driving for letting off fireworks (which should be banned, IMO, like they are in Ireland) in the wuss stakes

< sits back to watch thread go off on yet another tangent >

AnyFucker - ok this might gross you out but here's why I asked DH if he'd mind sitting down to pee.

We have a very small 'loo room'. The walls are less than a foot away from each side of the loo. At some point (probably whilst in an over-zealous cleaning mood) I was at eye level with the loo and noticed a plethora of yellow splatters on each wall. I wiped them off and then realised what they were....

Since asking DH to sit down to pee (and DS1)- no more splatters. So there you are.

Incidentally I have been told (but not made an exhaustive study of this) that many European men pee sitting down as a matter of course.

Oh and also DH loves that he can have a little rest while he's there.

AnyFucker · 01/02/2010 15:49

I guess it's easier to read Men And Motoring or whatever other manly rag they like, at the same time too

i used to fancy clive james when i was a teenager.

warped.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 15:54

Lol at Clive James.

The sad thing is my crush on Anthony Hopkins started soon after I watched Silence of the Lambs.

That really is rather strange.

Snorbs · 01/02/2010 15:55

Apologies if this is TMI, but I sit down for a middle-of-the-night pee as that way I can do it with my eyes closed and so not wake up too much

AnyFucker · 01/02/2010 15:59

warped, all of yas

SpeedyGonzalez · 01/02/2010 16:01

Hmm...if George Clooney, Thierry Henry, Naveen Andrews or Josh Holloway didn't drive, would I still find them sexy?...

Piffle!

AnyFucker · 01/02/2010 16:03

but speedy, all of those yummy men have beautiful wrists and forearms (and more besides, I should think)

< wipes spit out of eye >

sophieandbelly · 01/02/2010 16:09

i wonder how do u feel about women that dont drive?? do u think them lazy to?? i quess some just dont get round to it eh! i would find it a pain if my oh didnt drive but not sure about the sexy thing!!!

SpeedyGonzalez · 01/02/2010 16:11

Guffaw at AnyFucker! Glad you kept your name, btw! (we've chatted loads before - I've recently namechanged. Used to have a name similar to one of the men in my list...).

So, just how closely have you been examining these men's wrists? I am getting most concerned about your stability...

AnyFucker · 01/02/2010 16:17

I know who you are speedy

I'm stable alright, just obsessed

UndomesticHousewife · 01/02/2010 16:19

I agree, if a man doesn't have a car and so doesn't drive because there is no need for him to have one that's different than a man not beingable to drive a car. I would find it a bit strange but not sure exactly why, I'd have to give it some thought.

SpeedyGonzalez · 01/02/2010 16:21

I like shoulders, meself. Now, how can I create a job that pays me handsomely to closely examine the shoulders of those four hunks...?

UndomesticHousewife · 01/02/2010 16:23

Actually, I also find it bit annoying when women can't drive. Doesn't mean you have to have a car if you don't want/need/can't afford one but really do think everyone if they can should be able to drive.
My sil annoys me a bit she can't go anywhere as she doesn't drive. She joined a gym then fell ut with her friend with thecar so can't go anymore but pays £30 per month because she might cycle there one day.
That among other things.

AnyFucker · 01/02/2010 16:24

don't think too deeply, UndomesticatedHousewife, we are keeping it shallow

OP posts:
UndomesticHousewife · 01/02/2010 16:30

It's a good job I'm a shallow type then too much deep thinking may just finish me off
