Before I begin my ds(aged 7) doesn't care and doesn't really know about it.....

So he's just got back from a party where only some of the boys were invited for a sleep over.

In this house we try to be fair about everything and would insist that if ds wanted to have people for a sleep over he wouldn't be able to invite more children for a ice skating/cinema/climbing party. I would just feel it was unfair to the children left out.

It's almost bridezilla like to allow your children to disregard anyone else's feelings like this. We just wouldn't do it, our dcs would have to decide whether to have a sleep over or a party with lots of children.

Am I unreasonable to think this is teaching your children to be selfish and spoilt?

disclaimer... I feel like this about adult parties too, I was invited to one the other day and only realised when I got there that only 15 out of 25 parents had been invited, leaving the others left out.

Can I come- I love two tier parties!
I think op totally lost the plot when she got to the pub drinkers bit.....ah well, it gave us all a good laugh.
I just wonder why some folk overanalyse a supposedly fun thing like a party!
Happy Christmas!

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 10:22

The more the merrier

Happy xmas to one and all!

bruffin · 23/12/2009 10:23

Oblomov- your are spot on!

Oblomov · 23/12/2009 10:33

Count me in.
I will bring .......
Baked alaska, a gammon, a box of chocolate willies that arrived at dh's work this morning, as a present from a client and I make 15 different f**k strong cocktails.
I can also do an arab spring.

Does this party piece disqualify me from the sleepover?
Actually we all may be sleeping over to being coma-tosed

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 10:54

I will be thhe grown up and drink apple juice and tuck you in when you get too drunk tired to carry on

spicemonster · 23/12/2009 11:02

I have a tub of festive hula hoops and party shoes but I will come to the 2nd part of the party only. Can you let me know what time please?

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:15

Maybe we could do something afterwards then spicey, get a kebab or something?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 23/12/2009 11:29

So, I've organised some drinks for all the pub drinkers out there - mulled wine and prosecco for all, plus the remains of the holiday drinks cupboard. Ouzo anyone?. And I'm inviting everyone I know on MN - some are coming early as they are going on somewhere else later, then some are coming for food (pitch up around 8?) and then others later. If you want to arrive when people are still eating Spicey I suggest coming at 9ish? Or there are some people coming after the pub at 10ish. All very informal, pitch in as you like.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:37

Sounds perfect!

I am going to meet up with oblomov first for a bite to eat and a natter, we'll come on at 9ish for drinks if that's OK?

Really looking forward to it

Oblomov · 23/12/2009 11:41

sod the party, I'm 1st poster on the new thread.
YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAA
Another one. I tell you, we're off on another journey.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:42

another one?

spicemonster · 23/12/2009 12:13

See you sometime around 9ish. Or maybe 10 ... who knows? I like to maintain an air of mystery

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 12:16

I reckon spicey will roll up half cut at about 11.30, swear incoherently at everyone and collapse into the baked alaska.

spicemonster · 23/12/2009 12:20

You've obviously met me before ISNT

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 12:36
Grin
WorkingItOutAsIGo · 23/12/2009 14:02

So should I start a thread about oblomov blowing off the party to go to another thread ?

Its OK Ob, bet you turn up drunk with Spicey!

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 14:33

They will be the ones rocking out to slade I reckon

piscesmoon · 23/12/2009 14:51

'I also love it when they run away saying "I don't care anyway, and I'm right"

Too true! I think that they could at least acknowledge that some people don't find it rude and inconsiderate and that it isn't black and white, but a difference of opinion.

Actually I am terribly hurt to be out all morning and find you have started a party- without telling me first-I shall flounce off and take my quiche and wine elsewhere!

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 14:57

Aw no piscesmoon, come to the party. It needs some fresh blood now that spicey and oblomov are passed out in the corner

piscesmoon · 23/12/2009 14:58

It will make me feel like 'B' list guest!

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 14:58
piscesmoon · 23/12/2009 15:00

I think we need the etiquette book out-I think someone offered it earlier.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 15:02

I think the problem here is that as pub drinkers we are all random and utterly devoid of any idea about social niceties.

Non pub drinkers would know exactly what to do here.

spicemonster · 23/12/2009 15:11

Oh yes I did offer to look it up in Debretts. But I got distracted by the xmas sherry. Let me go and see ...

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 16:33

Yes we need to know
