To think that some folk take this far too seriously

There are some posters who seem to feel they are operating in a War Zone. In a War Zone where only they are allowed guns. They can say what they like but as soon as somebody bites back it "Hey Ho, Hey Ho its off to Mumsnet HQ I go".

99% of what gets posted is just light relief not the end of civilisation as we know it.

I'm just so cross I miss them all. Couldn't there be a little troll emoticon flashing up, like a little bridge or something?

Very purple- no text speak or lol-ing for your Extended teenager. And they are always heading for university and end up making a Good Marriage

catinthehat2 · 10/11/2009 21:28

But its the legit posters bleating "leave WhiningGit alone, she's having a terrible time with losing twin/babies/disease du jour/domestic violece. You are so mean and unleasant CatinTheHat" that get me.
THere's usually hint after polite hint in the replies above which they really don't get.
Clueless some of them.

podgesmummy · 10/11/2009 21:30

i didnt realise there was so many levels to this stuff [looks confused]

let's not forget lateinlife's odd request for instructions on what to do on her wedding night (shudder)

BitOfFun · 10/11/2009 22:01

Oh yes, I'd forgotten that one! He keeps himself busy, doesn't he?

podgesmummy · 10/11/2009 22:05

oh my god!! am pmsl at that, and those prev links in the thread. Eew.

Hullygully · 10/11/2009 22:12

I LOVE that one, especially Aurynne's hugs.

AnyFuleKno · 10/11/2009 22:14

I am sure this is a man, which makes it more creepy somehow. And I am sure he was tugging one out to that thread.

AnyFuleKno · 10/11/2009 22:17

This troll has a very distinctive calling card which always makes it totally obvious who they are.

Katisha · 10/11/2009 22:21

A troll round-up would be great. Maybe it could be developed into a game/iPhone app...

BitOfFun · 10/11/2009 22:33

Dragon's Den for you, Katisha

Tidey · 10/11/2009 23:39

Having looked at those threads, I can see exactly what you mean, very distinctive style. The name thing being a major one.

TokenFemale · 11/11/2009 03:24

Oh troll, you are so obvious,
Off you fuck (with your dead sis)

RedLentil · 11/11/2009 08:16

Oh troll, you are so obvious,
Off you fuck (you're just so sus)

haveemailedtoniandguy · 11/11/2009 08:31

Just noticed this thread - Bigsisandlittlebro just HAS to be the same poster.
here

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/11/2009 08:35

I am new to mumsnet in the past few weeks and am now completely freaked. I had NO IDEA this sort of thing went on. Added to which 6 years as a SAHM have somewhat dulled my bullshit sensors so please if any of you experienced MN poster see me falling for a huge fat troll please shout . Thanks

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 11/11/2009 08:39

Ooooooooooo
[jumps and waves]
I guessed raisedincare and loneparent and the others were the same person! And I was the first one to post on raisedincare's post about praying, but everybody got cross with me and my post was deleted.

I'm not usually very good a troll spotting and I think I posted a load of sex advice on that last one before having it deleted. It's so obvious now though, the descriptive nickname, the purple prose, the use of a person's first name in the post, the emotive subject matter, always involving something terrible that has happened to them. You'd think the troll would realise it was time to change his style wouldn't you. Unless he enjoys being outed and having a go at people. Who knows what makes trolls tick?

RedLentil · 11/11/2009 08:54

Welcome hobnobs. The trolling thing is bizarre, but happens to any form of communication where there is anonymity (the Samaritans and Childline are as familiar with it as mumsnet for example).

I hope it doesn't put you off. There is so much genuine support here, and nowhere better to hone your parenting/poetry/sarcasm/wit ...
