To be pissed off at the fuss brother in law and life are making for their kid's 1st birthday?

Their 1st dc and our 2nd dc's were born only two month's apart. When DD2 had her 1st birthday at the end of August my partner didn't want to take a precious day's leave from work for her birthday as he said "she's only 1, she won't care anyway." All we did was get her a cake, sing happy birthday and helped her open her presents in the evening when the grandparents (one set anyway) were there. They live with us anyway so it's not like they had to make the effort to come over.
DP's brother saw him at work and said should he give DP her present or bring it over the following Sunday when they were coming over for lunch anyway...nothing to do with celebrating DC's birthday.
Now for their DC's upcoming big day they are planning a big family outing to a farm (shit choice) and have published a list, like a wedding list where people can choose what to get their daughter from.
Now it's up to them I suppose how they choose to celebrate but it's making me feel pissed off with DP, guilty with myself and sad for DC2 that we didn't make a fuss.
Am I being pathetic? What did you do for 1st birthdays? I know the baby doesn't care but it's showing everyone else how much you love them isn't it?

Hi Jude, I can sympathise with you, you feel a bit sad that you didn't do more for your DDs bday, and also you don't understand why your BIL & SIL didn't come over & see DD sooner - if you don't ask them, you won't know. So, either forget it and accept that people can behave unreasonably/irrationally,(shakes head - and this is the recommended option) or ask them!

And FWIW I think that a 'list' is totally OTT for a kid's birthday - they should, as has been said, accept any presents gracefully.

So stop beating yourself up my dear

duchesse · 02/10/2009 17:53

Sounds like Mr Burns off the Simpsons put like that...

TheCrackFox · 02/10/2009 17:54

She writes like a 15 year old but strangley looked in her late 40s.

I don't think she was trolling just a bit of a twat.

preciouslillywhite · 02/10/2009 17:55

Jude every time I come across you on here you seem to be getting a bit of a pasting from the Righteous...if I were you I'd get dp to take the keyboard into work for the whole of October, then name change and come back.I know you've said some mean things but this is looking a bit like bullying to me

ginnny · 02/10/2009 17:57

I agree with Crackfox

preciouslillywhite · 02/10/2009 17:57

fuckinell I missed a bit while I was typing that last one- I'll rephrase. It looks a lot like bullying to me!

winnybella · 02/10/2009 18:00

@ duchesse
But seriously Jude, I remember you posting on the "swearing at kids" thread and even though I didn't exactly share your POV, you seemed quite normal. I mean, where all that bile is coming from?

BitOfFun · 02/10/2009 18:08

Jude seems pretty genuine to me (not a flippertigibbert type given to wasting people's time in a pathetic attempt at humour at all, hate them ), and is just feeling pissed off and peevish. As would I if my ILs were acting like twats. Which they are. Gift list, ffs...

preciouslillywhite · 02/10/2009 18:15

...peevish

like it

BoF- you are the Voice of Reason. Was wondering if I was going nuts just then...

Should I mention here that I haven't read the whole thread though? har

kittywise · 02/10/2009 18:27

jude your posts are ace, I have laughed outloud, and that's unusual for me!
Btw I can sympathise with you, I don't think you're horrible, just honest!

elmofan · 02/10/2009 18:28

well if they are moving soon then you wont have to put up with them or their ugliness for much longer will you ,

MovingOutOfBlighty · 02/10/2009 18:28

Personally, I am starting to warm to Jude.

Either she is a very subtle troll, in which case I congratulate on the details of your post which makes you come across as a wonderfully neurotic mum, but believeable.

Or, she really is as bizarre as she sounds and I am quite enjoying the entertainment value. Going to keep a 10 mile distance from Windsor, but otherwise fairly entertaining.

And Christmas at hers must be a thing to behold with Vinegar Tits, the letcherous BIL and her and her Dp snickering behind the tree at their 'ugly' offspring.

elmofan · 02/10/2009 18:31

lol @ moving

scottishmummy · 02/10/2009 18:40
