My DD1 is fed up with her "hairy legs" to be honest I don't think they are that bad, but then what do I know?! She is 12 and certainly things are happening and her body is changing, but doesn't 12 seem awfully young to be starting down that road?

I know she could use that stinky cream stuff and she doesn't have to slice her legs to ribbons like I remember doing ( and always when I was just about to go out!) but she seems so young.

I am not ready for this yet!! Has anyone else had this come up ?!! Help!!

I have dark hair so the hair's on my legs were quite dark from a young age.
I was so embarrassed come PE time because of my legs. My mother wouldn't let me remove the hair. It's not nice having hairy legs at that age, when you're already feeling a bit vulnerable with all the changes.
She's becoming a young lady so i do think it's her choice when it comes to her body.

If we can keep playing thread keep-em-up for long enough, sooner or later the DD will be on here talking about her awful DM who wouldn't let her shave her legs.

Watch this space: AIBU for shaving my DD's legs for her when she's 3 due to issues stemming from my own childhood?

KittensoftPuppydog · 18/05/2013 20:29

Tell her that it'll come back even worse.
Or let her wax them. The first time is so painful it might put her off.

Deffodil · 18/05/2013 20:31

DD will be gone.

Poor kid has to look like the Yeti just because you "don't approve" of razors?

We need an update from the Op, Ok, I know it's 4 years later, but still, manners. Wink

Oh my days. Do you want her to get bullied? Hairy legs are disgusting. If she has hairy legs and is approaching puberty then what is wrong with her taking care of her personal hygiene? I remember not being allowed to shave and my legs were so hairy they resembled a males, and all my friends would laugh at me. It's just embarrassing really.

How would you like it if someone stopped you from shaving your legs or your vagina or whatever? I was 12 when I had my first period.

Sorry but you don't own your daughters body hair. So get real.

IfYouLeaveMeNow · 19/05/2013 22:11

They are her legs. My mother did the same to me - I had to wait until I was 16. Still not forgiven her for it. I felt unfeminine, ugly and very self conscious at school. Please, please let her.

LadyBeagleEyes · 19/05/2013 22:16

Sigh.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii · 19/05/2013 22:24

I am glad you are letting your DD shave her legs.

When I was 12 I was once called yeti legs by a boy. I can remember the boys name and when and where it occurred. I have remembered this for the last 34 years. Shock

I can't remember being teased for anything else although I presume I must have been at some point. Confused The yeti legs comment clearly bugged me a lot. Sad
