"Mark Radcliffe - Mumsnet sex god". Perhaps we should forward this link to the BBC press dept?!

notnowbernard · 22/09/2009 18:16

The reason I can't stand him is because HE thinks he is an edgy, boundary-pushing broadcaster

Whereas in actual fact he is mind-numbingly dull and predictable. And not funny

Though I did love his on-air interview with Chris Rock a while back.... talk about dead-air!

dawntigga · 22/09/2009 19:33

YANBU can we add Steve Berry to list for similar reasons?

CloudDragon · 22/09/2009 19:45

Chris Moyles - arogant twat

Scott Mills - even more sexist and base than Moyles, he is so slimey

and I hate more than anyone else Jeremy VIne - he MUST work for the Daily Mail to spread their particular style of small minded rightwinged attitude.

but I too love Mark Radcliffe and ave soft spot for Vernon Kay

CUNextTuesday · 22/09/2009 19:49

Do you think Our Mark would see it as a compliment? I mean, it's perhaps not as rock n roll as he would normally aim for but I can imagine him, now he's a mature slab of wilting gorgeousness, being curiously flattered

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 20:00

CUNextTuesday - I used to love that show. 10-12 on Monday to Thursday. Still possibly my favourite radio show of all time. Better even than Peel, because they took the piss more asnd didn't play quite so much roaring speed-metal and bangin' techno... (Although I entirely defend Peelie's right to play this, given that it was probably other people's taste and he played so much stuff that was my taste...)

I remember they used to have Simon Armitage doing poetry, Will Self on cult novels, Mark Kermode on cult films...

Funnily enough I am doing a writing event at that very pub you mention next month!

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 20:03

I'm interested to know why people think Jeremy Vine represents Daily Mail England, though. He challenges every contributor on every side of the debate, so how can he be "right-wing"? I thought his place was to remain impartial. Forgive me if this is naive...

His stories for discussion are usually three or four of the top ones covered in the news, so it can't be the choice of subject matter.

CUNextTuesday · 22/09/2009 20:08

QuiteUndead well if I still lived in Manc I would make an appointment to view for sure. No idea what kind of modern decor thy have installed now but back in the day...

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 22/09/2009 20:25

I am sure that Jezza prides himself on his journalistic impartiality (quite rightly imo), but the format of the show - "Let's have a heated debate!" - is bound to bring those with...fascist firmer views out of the woodwork.

I really rate him. He is professional, but not at all hard hearted (occasionally you can hear his voice go after hearing a really moving story). His programme also serves to remind me that the UK is not populated by woolly liberals like me.

nbee84 · 22/09/2009 20:37

I'm with the minority too - I love listening to Moyles in the morning and love all the team banter. I really do laugh out loud. He gets good listening figures and is now the longest running breakfast presenter on Radio 1 - so he must be doing something right.

Sometimes if he plays a song I loathe (like the recent Prodigy single!) I flick to Radio 2, but that Sarah Kennedy makes me want to crash into the nearest brick wall, I can't bear her! Also dislike Edith Bowman - I don't like her accent and want to correct her speach all the time.

nbee84 · 22/09/2009 20:38

speech even

NinthWave · 22/09/2009 20:43

Oh I loved Mark and Lard! I met Mark Radcliffe at a book signing a few months ago, and wittered far too much about my formative teenage years I blame the free wine...

There are many, many books I have read and films I have watched based on reviews on that programme.

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/09/2009 20:52

I listen to Radio 1 in the morning out of sheer force of habit - plus there is no other radio station worth listening to between 6 and 7 (listen to Dev before Chris Moyles).

I quite like the Chris Moyles show, they just ramble on about vague nonsense at that time of day, which suits my level of brainpower that early.

Driving home listen to Scott Mills, who I love. Hope he gets the breakfast show when CM leaves (can't be long now, surely).

The other DJ I love is Nihal - me and dd love his ramblings. Such a shame that he is being moved to a graveyard slot where I will never get to listen to him.

Bloody Fearne Cotton - I can't stand he sibilant voice, it drives me batty. Cannot listen to top 40 on sundays because of her anoying ways (probably a good thing, I am not 14 anymore, after all )

wook · 22/09/2009 20:59

Urgh Chris Moyles YANBU he is a misogynist twat and I can't believe he is still allowed to be on radio. VILE.

George Lamb on radio 6- total, utter crap.

Cerys Matthews on radio 6= brilliant

Jo Whiley I have always had a soft spot for ever since she came on to a Brit awards show about ten years ago - every single female presenter or performaer prior to her had been in little more than bra and knickers, she came on in a really nice dress and said rather pointedly something like 'I feel a bit overdressed'

Craig Charles- great music but too much of a twat.

Sarah Kennedy I just find hilarious- I used to wake up to her every morning in disbelief- thought she was just pretending to be that way.

notnowbernard · 22/09/2009 22:16

I am a recent Radio 6 convert

Fabulous

I like George Lamb. Dislike Cerys's voice but love the music she plays

Fearne Cotton does my head in

thesilverlining · 22/09/2009 22:23

YANBU - he is such a knob its not even funny

allegin · 22/09/2009 22:35

He definitely is a misogynistic twat and he irritates the hell out of me but the breakfast show is still vaguely listenable to and occasionally makes me laugh out loud, especially when they do song parodies. You have to listen to Somerset Boy (American Boy) - I'm sure it'll be on youtube.

I wouldn't be happy about my son listening to it though (toddler) so hoping Moyles will be long gone by the time ds is old enough to understand (currently we have enforced daily listening due to dh's clever argument that all the other morning djs are rubbish).

LoisWilkerson · 22/09/2009 22:51

I think he's repulsive. He's right up there with John McCririck on my 'Not Even At Gunpoint' list.

notnowbernard · 22/09/2009 22:57

LOL at 'Not even at gunpoint'

A whole other thread there

KnackeredOldHag · 22/09/2009 23:26

I didn't used to think all that much of Jo Wiley. Then I read an interview with her where she was explaining about her disabled sister and needing genetic testing for her children (IIRC 2 of them are carriers for the disorder her sister has) and also breastfeeding her 9 month old baby. It really made me change my opinion of her.

Otherwise in the morning I'm another Wogan fan. It's a sign of old age... I also can't stand Fearne Cotton or Scott Mills.....

Tortington · 22/09/2009 23:30

dh loves him.

i can't stand him - i don't know about misogynistic - i think hes deffo a .

but then id rather not listen to anyone speak in the morning.

UnquietDad · 23/09/2009 09:44

I want this "Not Even At Gunpoint" thread to start. I've got a few suggestions!

AboardtheAxiom · 23/09/2009 09:58
