I think Bates did it first but it's Mayo I mainly remember.

ProfYaffle · 21/09/2009 22:00

I love CE on drivetime but then I'm a lifelong fan. He did go a bit odd after the move to Virgin/Billie Piper marriage etc but he's older, wiser and positively charming these days.

It does make me lol the pure indignation of Wogan fans re the breakfast show.

stealthsquiggle · 21/09/2009 22:02

YANBU. Chris Moyles is intensely annoying, not least because he feels the need to pretend to be even more stupid than he is, thinking for some reason that it is cool. The only intelligent presenter left on R1 now Jo W has gone is Nihal, who has now been relegated to a Tuesday evening slot, presumably for being too intelligent

Georgimama · 21/09/2009 22:03

I love them both. TW sounds like a big CE fan so the fury of some of his older listeners is quite odd. He's not going until after Christmas though, so some of them may have died by then of course.

SilentBob · 21/09/2009 22:13

Never mind all this, wtf is with Greg James?

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 21/09/2009 22:15

UQD, I am not keen on Ball, but - speaking of radio women - I love Liza Tarbuck on the radio and she is also fantastic paired with a bloke (especially the sainted Mark Radcliffe).

Moyles is just a symptom of the moral decay that's gnawing at the heart of the country

Grisette · 21/09/2009 22:23

Yes Liza tarbuck was A-mazinf when I hear her on the radio last week. Jonathan Ross has totally lost it imo

'Poor' Jonathan isn't allowed to be lewd anymore - he's been neutered by the BBC. To be honest, I find him quite charming when I am in the right mood, but I think his radio show is running out of steam. I actively look forward to when Liza covers for him.

cheapskatemum · 21/09/2009 22:34

I can't believe no-one's mentioned Christian O'Connor (The O.C.) yet on this thread. He used to be ok on XFM, but now there's not much 2 choose between him & Moyles.

For those of you who are not sure why Moyles might be considered misogynist: the last time I suffered listening to his show, he was trying to bully a female co-presenter into submitting to having her breasts weighed.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 21/09/2009 22:36

To be fair, he should have offered to weigh his as well.

jooseyfruit · 21/09/2009 22:43

Adam and joe on radio 6 Saturday mornings. chortle-tastic.

Heathcliffscathy · 21/09/2009 22:45

i love adam and joe. i know chris moyles is unsophisticated, sort of throwback stuff. i hate him most of the time. however, sometimes he makes me really really laugh. it is him and the rest of them tbh, comedy dave etc.

NotanOtter · 21/09/2009 22:56

how loathesome moyles sounds

o'connell is vile

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/09/2009 23:06

YA soooo NBU....ive thought this for quite some time now - so glad its not just me! i thought i was just old now i listen to Radio 2 and think chris moyles is a twat, but seems im not the only one! tis reassuring!

EvilEdnasTwinSister · 21/09/2009 23:07

can't be doing with any of them

give me a CD anytime

NotanOtter · 21/09/2009 23:10

do you want to borrow my Jesus Christ Superstar? Awfully uplifting!

mamas12 · 21/09/2009 23:17

you are most definitely NBU!!!
Read in the style of Nellie from Bread He Is A Twat!

Ozziegirly · 22/09/2009 00:50

AT least you have a choice of decent non commercial radio stations there. Over here in Oz we just have a million identikit dumbass presenters talking for approximately 30 seconds before yet another advert comes on, or before John Farnham is played yet âgain.

It's painful.

The alternative is some kind of talk radio where racists call in and shout abuse at immigrants.

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 09:38

R2 needs more women. Cerys Matthews is v. good on 6Music. Her husky voice and Welshness are lovely.

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 09:39

"The alternative is some kind of talk radio where racists call in and shout abuse at immigrants."

Oh, we have that, ozziegirly - it's called local radio.

Bathsheba · 22/09/2009 09:44

I love 5 Live...literally listen from 6am - midnight...

I'm GUTTED that Simon Mayo is leaing - he is going to Chris Evans Radio 2 show when Evans takes over from Wogan.

Apparently the film reviews on a Friday with Mark Kermode are staying on 5 live as a seperate 2 hour show.

Danny Baker is on 5 Live on a Saturday morning...

AstronomyDomine · 22/09/2009 09:44

at mamas12

I used to like Chris Moyles but have never liked Chris Evans once he left the Big Breakfast way back when.

I listen to Rock Radio now.... definitely more my cup of tea.

ladyhelen2 · 22/09/2009 09:50

I am indifferent to Moyles either way really, but he did grow on me a bit with the Comic Relief climb (but boy did he go on about it) and the family tree thingy on BBC1. He does a good hour between 9 and 10 on a friday morning when theres a bit of nostlagia.I make a point of listening to that when am driving with DS to soft play and we have good sing song and boogie to it.

smugmumofboys · 22/09/2009 09:55

Never listen to Radio 1 but I'm sure yanbu.

I think Radio 2 missed a trick with Wogan's departure: Danny Baker would have been perfect for that slot. I used to love him in the morning when I lived in London.

I completely heart Radcliffe and Maconie.

I was at a thing recently where Mark Radcliffe was guesting. He was really funny and lovely and I was too pathetic to go up and declare my admiration for him.

notyummy · 22/09/2009 09:58

Well, I will join the minority group that like him. He and his team make me laugh during my commute. Like the banter.I didn't like him 4/5 years ago but think he has mellowed considerably and uses his team a lot more, to good effect.

I also like Terry, Jonathan Ross (on radio - not on telly) and Vernon Kaye. Don't mind Chris Evans. Generally also love anything on Radio 4 apart from their comedy half hour in the early evening and the Archers.

I don't find him particularly misogynistic - I think he occasionally says things to provoke a reaction, and by the general tone of this thread it generally works!

I am sure the BBC won't be losing too much sleep over it - mumsnet users are probably not the target audience (although my understanding is that Chris Moyles has an older than average target audience and regularly gets told off about it!)
