YANBU - Moyles is an arsehole.

The last time I ever listed to R1 was when he was calling the ginger one out of Girls Aloud a "minger". Yeah, because you are at the top pf our lust list, Moyles. Twat.

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 10:14

That's really dd, smugmum - I wonder how we can share an admiration of Radcliffe and Maconie and yet differ so wildly on Baker?! I find him unbearable!!

(Have you read Radcliffe's autobiography?)

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 10:14

sorry that should say really ODD

freebster · 22/09/2009 10:21

I must be a minority too. Love him, and the team and the fact he seems to wind so many people up. I'm mid thirties, married, have more then half a brain I think, but find the show funny and a great way to drive to work and arrive with a smile on my face. Went to see his live show recently and laughed alot. Sorry! Can't be doing with the snobbery that seems to be around at the moment over certain music, dj's etc.

UnquietDad · 22/09/2009 10:25

Tarbuck was good with Radcliffe, but sounded awfully out of her depth on her own.

SamMitchell · 22/09/2009 10:29

Did any of you see the Who Do You Think You Are? with Moyles? Painful. He came across in exactly the same way he does on air - a big headed, big mouthed, thoroughly unlikeable TWUNT.

traceybath · 22/09/2009 10:34

I like him too - he definitely says things to get a reaction but is i think a genuinely nice bloke.

Am sure he'll be off soon though as he's getting too old for the target market.

I also like sara cox - she's v funny and much more amusing than edith.

Chris moyles followed by woman's hour is my preferred morning's listening.

TheOldestCat · 22/09/2009 10:40

I thought Liza Tarbuck and Hughie (from the Fun Lovin' Criminals - hope I've got the apostrophe right there) were great when covering Wossy's Saturday morning show.

Moyles isn't to my taste - he was horrible about Edith Bowman's appearance, which, given his own bashing with the ugly stick, seemed cruel, unfair and hypocritical. Still, I haven't listened to Radio 1 since I was in its target audience (a LONG time ago) - when Mark & Lard were doing the breakfast show (so 'daytime').

I would KILL to go out for a pint with Mark Radcliffe - a funny, interesting man who's also a City fan. Perfect. UnquietDad - I've read his autobiography, tis very funny.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 22/09/2009 10:46

Radcliffe and Marconi were up my way recently with their evening show, but I was too hampered by children to go and stalk them along Hadrian's Wall. Curses!

Mark and Lard were hysterical on the breakfast show. They were proof that it is possible to be funny on the radio without being a git.

lilymolly · 22/09/2009 10:59

I LOVE chris Moyles and the breaskfast show! I often laugh out load on a morning

But why is it alright to say misognistic things " just to provoke a reaction". If he was being racist " just to provoke a reaction" he'd be investigated by the police. AND he's homophobic too.

notyummy · 22/09/2009 12:19

Grisette - you may have a point but it certainly isn't just Moyles who should be covered under it. Most comedians (and I'm not saying Chris Moyles is one of them BTW)have a go at the opposite sex (Jo Brand is pretty rude about men!)

Loads of commentators and journalists day sexist things about the opposite sex all the time - as far as I am aware it doesn't break a law - it will just annoy people some of the time. Free society and free speech.

MorrisZapp · 22/09/2009 13:45

Jo Brand hasn't been rude about men since about 1987, do keep up! And nobody has been rude about men every day between the hours of 5 and 8 on our airwaves that I know of.

I can't stand the 'he's only joking' or 'he just says it to get a reaction' argument. Why pretend to be an arsehole? I'd say it's much more likely that they say these things becuase actually, they are arseholes.

I've hated Evans' guts ever since I heard him patronising the crap out of a female journo on radio 1. It was budget day and she had interviewed a politician (think it was Portillo or somebody) and been quite rigorous and critical in her questioning.

Evans came back on after the news and was all like 'Oh Jenny, you're far too nice to be a scary interviewer! You're so adorable and sweet, you'll never scare Portillo' etc etc until I practically threw my radio out of the window.

At least Evans has genuine wit and charisma though - Moyles has the verve, charm and intelligence of a ham sandwich.

YANBU

notyummy · 22/09/2009 13:57

He may well be an arsehole, but I still find him funny. However I can easily see how he is not everyone's cup of tea. The alternative on Radio 2 before 7 30 is too horrible to contemplate though - Sarah whatserface gives misogynistic ageists all over the world plenty of material to play with. 'My cats' 'My dearly beloved' F**k OFF! Radio 4 excellent but sometimes too improving at that time of the morning.

notyummy · 22/09/2009 13:58

PS: Have def heard Jo Brand being rude about men recently (twas v funny!) - but take your point that she doesn't have the same platform.

cornsillk · 22/09/2009 16:23

Question for fellow OAP mancunians - Did Mark Radcliffe used to do a late night Picaddilly radio station in the 80's?

Wigglesworth · 22/09/2009 16:28

I don't mind Chris Moyles, I adore Scott Mills. I didn't really like Jo whiley but they have replaced her with an entity far worse, Fearne "Cunting" Cotton. My opinion may be unpopular but she is a twat of epic proportions.

CybilLiberty · 22/09/2009 16:29

I thought Lisa Tarbuck and Hughie whatisface were DIRE when they covered for Jonathan Ross on sat. mornings. Zero chemistry, zero wit, he sounded labotomised.

When their main studio guest was Joe Friggin Pasquale I nearly threw myself from my Dorma extension window

Alwaysdithering · 22/09/2009 16:31

hear hear at "I can't stand the 'he's only joking' or 'he just says it to get a reaction' argument. Why pretend to be an arsehole? I'd say it's much more likely that they say these things becuase actually, they are arseholes."

And when, precisely, was Sara Cox funny? I need details of when this event may have occured.

Alwaysdithering · 22/09/2009 16:34

And, no, I don't get why people like Liza Tarbuck so much either. She's ok as a person, I'm sure, but she knows nothing about music and isn't particularly sparklingly interesting.

The worst though for just being so dull and pointless (apart from Sarah Kennedy but that goes without saying) is Emma Forbes. I mean, why has she got a radio show? Why?

Coca · 22/09/2009 16:41

Love that someone being accused of being misogynistic is getting insulted with words like twat and cunt....

MissMoopy · 22/09/2009 16:58

He is a twat, but an amusing one. He is essentially playing a character and I am sure he is not nearly as vile really. I would rather listen to him that to that pompous cow Jo Whiley who thinks she is a musical guru. She's friends with Chris Martin for fucks sake, so she's on my shitty list for that alone!

CUNextTuesday · 22/09/2009 17:42

cornsilk yes I believe he did. Mark and Lard were just genius together - I was driving back from visiting a client (I was a consultant, not an escort) and they had Peter Kay on as a guest in his very early days. Well my stars I had to park up on the hard shoulder for 5 minutes because I was choking with laughter and my eyes had streams of mirth running down them. I was totally unable to compose myself.

My friend and I used to listen to them at Uni when they did the graveyard shift and to this day (16 years later) call each other Our Kid in continued admiration.

We used to go down and have a few at the Lass O'Gowrie round the corner from the BBC studios in Manc so we could pretend we were hanging out with them . Oh but they were just like you would expect them to be!! Delicious.

CUNextTuesday · 22/09/2009 17:44

Oh that's got me all unnecessary now
