I always found 'In The Ghetto' the most moving Elvis song.

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/09/2009 23:08

Real sob worthy the song that was playing on dads cd as he took his last breath while i held his hand.

Close your eyes,
Have no fear,
The monsters gone,
He's on the run and your daddy's here,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It's getting better and better,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,

Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we'll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime,

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,

Beautiful,
Beautiful, beautiful,
Beautiful Boy,
Darling,
Darling,

That was released about a week before John Lennon died. He also did 'Grow Old With Me' which looks similarly poignant in retrospect.

TheLadyEvenstar · 09/09/2009 23:14

Someguy, my dad told me that he really loved his music. So did I but i just can't listen to it now.

Puff The Magic Dragon came on my ipod () in work yesterday, and I had to leave the roon

Music (esp. harmonies?) makes me cry deadfully.

yy to Two Little Boys. Can't even think of it without crying.

Thunderduck · 09/09/2009 23:59

Has anyone mentioned 'Baby Mine' yet?

I don't even have children yet but it never fails to set me off.

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine
Little one when you play
Don't you mind what you say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine
If they knew sweet little you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give just for
The right to hold you
From your head to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Cute as can be, baby of mine

Thunder I have a slide show of my 2 boys i have made with that as the backing track.

charleymouse · 10/09/2009 00:10

Oh Evenstar my Dad used to sing it to me too and when I sing it to DD she always says Granpa P sang this to you didn't he Mummy. Makes me well up big style. He also sang "hush little baby" amongst others and I can not hear that without blubbing as it just seems Dads will try do anything to stop their babies crying except unfortunately they do die and their babies will cry everytime they hear a song sung by their Dads.

Oh don't even get me started on 2 little boys, I can't type for crying.

On a positive note a friend always thought Jackie Paper had died and when I told her he had just grown up she was so happy.

Abba's "Slipping Through My FIngers" makes me cry as well. Even before it was in Mamma Mia!!

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that Im losing her forever
And without really entering her world
Im glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see whats in her mind
Each time I think Im close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sleep in our eyes, her and me at the breakfast table
Barely awake, I let precious time go by
Then when shes gone theres that odd melancholy feeling
And a sense of guilt I cant deny
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
(slipping through my fingers all the time)
Well, some of that we did but most we didnt
And why I just dont know

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see whats in her mind
Each time I think Im close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture
And save it from the funny tricks of time
Slipping through my fingers...

Slipping through my fingers all the time

Schoolbag in hand she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile...

MissSunny - I was given that poem (with a teddy bear - which I still sleep with) when our first child was stillborn. It is beautiful.

And we played Pictures of You at the funeral. I'd always had an emotional reaction to that song; it's x1000 now.

I'll preempt this post with a warning that the death of a child is discussed.

This is a song that's guaranteed to make me cry, more than any other.

A few years ago a friend lost her son who was born prematurely and this was played at his funeral.

"Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)"

Dragon tales and the "water is wide"
Pirate's sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

The rocket racer's all tuckered out
Superman's in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, will find the mouse
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

God bless mommy and match box cars
God bless dad and thanks for the stars
God hears "Amen," wherever we are
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Godspeed
Godspeed
Sweet dreams
