Not got to Puff yet but the last page of Peepbo when the baby is going upstairs with mummy and daddy and they all look in the mirror gets me EVERY TIME. No idea why.

The Carnival is Over by the Seekers is a tear-jerker too.

And never mind Peepo, bye bye baby breaks my heart - he had to change his own nappy

Another one my dad used to sing us ... Remember the Alamo.

"Hey up Santa Ana, they're killing your soldiers below" was a line that always got me.

Here are the words.

A hundred and eighty were challenged by Travis to die
By the line that he drew with his sword when the battle was nigh.
Any man that would fight to the death cross over,
But him that would live better fly
And over the line went a hundred and seventy nine
Hey Santa Anna we're killing your soldiers below,
That men where ever they go, will remember the Alamo
Bowie lay dyin', but his powder was ready and dry
Flat on his back Bowie killed him a few in reply
And young David Crockett was singin' and laughin',
With gallantry fierce in his eyes
For God and for freedom, a man more than willin' to die
Hey Santa Anna we're killing your soldiers below,
that men where ever they go, will remember the Alamo
And then they sent a young scout from the battlements bloody and loud,
With the words of farewell from a garrison valiant and proud
"Grieve not little darlin' my dyin', if Texas is sovereign and free,
We'll never surrender and ever with liberty be"
Hey Santa Anna we're killing your soldiers below,
that men where ever they go, will remember the Alamo

sob sob !

Has anyone mentioned "The Sunshine of your smile" by Mike Berry?

Dear face that holds so sweet a smile for me
Were you not mine, how dark this world would be
I know no light above that could replace
Love's radiant sunshine in your lovely face.

Give me a smile, the love-light in your eyes
Life could not hold a sweeter paradise
Give me the right to love you all the while
My world forever, the sunshine of your smile.

Shadows may fall across the land and sea
Sunshine from all the world may hidden be
But I shall see no clouds across the sun
Your smile shall light my life till life is done.

Give me a smile, the love-light in your eyes
Life could not hold a sweeter paradise
Give me the right to love you all the while
My world forever, the sunshine of your smile
My world forever, the sunshine of your smile.

here if you want to listen...

Think I must be a bit older than most, I can remember blubbing whenever my mum sang 'My Grandfathers Clock' at bedtime. Thinking back, it was an odd choice....

My grandfather's clock
Was too large for the shelf,
So it stood ninety years on the floor;
It was taller by half
Than the old man himself,
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more.
It was bought on the morn
Of the day that he was born,
It was always his treasure and pride;
But it stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

Ninety years without slumbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
His life seconds numbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
It stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

In watching its pendulum
Swing to and fro,
Many hours had he spent while a boy;
And in childhood and manhood
The clock seemed to know,
And share both his grief and his joy.
And it struck twenty-four
When he entered at the door,
With a blooming and beautiful bride;
But it stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

Ninety years without slumbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
His life seconds numbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
It stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

It rang an alarm
In the dead of the night,
An alarm that for years had been dumb;
And we knew that his spirit
Was pluming his flight,
That his hour of departure had come.
Still the clock kept the time,
With a soft and muffled chime,
As we silently stood by his side.
But it stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

Ninety years without slumbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
His life seconds numbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
It stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

Mmm, still has the power to make me blub then, along with Puff.

Ninks · 12/09/2009 21:38

PinkBunny we sang that in the infants along with Streets of London and Puff. Thankyou!

Lilyloo · 12/09/2009 22:02

Has anyone mentioned Ben ?

Ben, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With my friend to call my own I'll never be alone
And you my friend will see, you've got a friend in me

you're always running here and there You feel you're not wanted anywhere If you ever look behind and don't like what you find There's something you should know, you've got a place to go I used to say, "I", And "Me" Now it's "Us", Now it's "We" Ben, most people would turn you away I don't listen to a word they say They don't see you as I do I wish they would try to I'm sure they'd think again if they had a friend like Ben Like Ben, like Ben sad

legspinner · 12/09/2009 22:15

Blimey there have been a lot of tears on this excellent thread (a lot of them mine).

Just for some light relief, here is my antidote to blubbering at Puff the Magic Dragon, by Flight of the Conchords:

legspinner · 12/09/2009 22:17

suzysweet · 13/09/2009 01:37

Little Willow gets me every time as well as Puff ,Two little boys, and PinkBunny 'My Grandfathers Clock' was a song i remember singing aswell, have loved this thread and stayed up way longer than i intended and cried buckets!

Bend, little willow
Winds gonna blow you
Hard and cold tonight

Life, as it happens
Nobody warns you
Willow, hold on tight.

Nothings gonna shake your love
Take your love away
No ones out to break your heart
It only seems that way...hey

Sleep little willow
Peace gonna follow
Times gonna heal your wounds
Grow to the heavens
Now and forever
Always came too soon.

Little willow

Nothings gonna shake your love
Take your love away
No ones out to break your heart
It only seems that way...hey

Bend, little willow
Winds gonna blow you
Hard and cold tonight
Life, as it happens
Nobody warns you
Willow, hold on tight.

Ahhh, little willow
Little willow

MamaMimi · 13/09/2009 14:17

Since this thread mentions books as well as songs just thought I'd mention that one of the saddest books I have ever read is called 'Love You Forever'.

First time I read it to twins I was nanny for I hadn't realised how emotive it would be and I couldn't read it properly for wailing so much!!

I have bought it for myself since having my own dc and it makes me blub uncontrollably every time I read it.

Here:
www.amazon.co.uk/Love-You-Forever-Robert-Munsch/dp/0920668372/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qi d=1252846842&sr=1-1

EvilEdnasTwinSister · 13/09/2009 14:25

Can't listen to Without You or Tears in Heaven without crying for hours.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/09/2009 14:57

Haven't got time to read whole thread at the moment, but Puff, Two Litte Boys and Seasons In The Sun all make me well up/break down. Just bought a book version of Puff though for DDand the illustrations are beautiful, and the last pages show a little girl coming to play with Puff

Since being pg The Pogues "Waltzing Matilda" also makes me sob.

LiziBee · 13/09/2009 20:33

Ben (Micheal Jackson) also makes me cry every time!

anyarubymum · 13/09/2009 21:25

I always cry to 'daddys little girl ' my mum changed the words to mummys and daddys little girl when i was a baby, i now sing it to my 5.5 month old baby girl Anya

MovingOutOfBlighty · 13/09/2009 21:36

Sob to 'Morningtown Ride', 'Puff' and 'Somewhere Out There' (even though about mice...?)

The one that always gets me is hearing my DH singing 'Sweet Baby James' to my DCs.
Welling up now.

BigusBumus · 13/09/2009 21:37

Not long ago, whilst pg i was making dinner for my 2 boys, whilst the iPod was playing the "Kids Stuff" playlist. I was facing the sink, with my back to the boys, as i was blubbing uncontrollably to "The Ugly Duckling". (especially the bit i have bolded). Hormones eh? Who needs 'em?!

There once was an ugly duckling
With feathers all stubby and brown
And the other birds said in so many words
Get out of town
Get out, get out, get out of town
And he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
In a flurry of eiderdown
That poor little ugly duckling
Went wandering far and near
But at every place they said to his face
Now get out, get out, get out of here
And he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
And a very unhappy tear
All through the wintertime he hid himself away
Ashamed to show his face, afraid of what others might say
All through the winter in his lonely clump of wheat
Till a flock of swans spied him there and very soon agreed
You?re a very fine swan indeed! [gulp..]
A swan? Me a swan? Ah, go on!
And he said yes, you?re a swan
Take a look at yourself in the lake and you?ll see
And he looked, and he saw, and he said
I am a swan! Wheeeeeeee!
I?m not such an ugly duckling
No feathers all stubby and brown
For in fact these birds in so many words said
The best in town, the best, the best
The best in town
Not a quack, not a quack, not a waddle or a quack
But a glide and a whistle and a snowy white back
And a head so noble and high
Say who?s an ugly duckling?
Not I!
Not I!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/09/2009 21:52

Am I missing something, but why all the tears over Morningtown Ride?

AK1107 · 13/09/2009 22:02

This isn't a song but last Christmas Radio 1 had Kylie Minogue reading "The little match girl". I was driving at the time with my DD in the car. By the end of the story I was an absolute blubbering wreck. My daughter kept asking me about the story and why the little girl died and I just couldn't stop crying. I can't even think about it now without getting a bit of a tear in my eye!

linz76 · 13/09/2009 22:04

This is pathetic but I can't listen to Coat of many colours by Dolly Parton without blubbing. Also:

Slipping through my fingers
Carolina in my mind by James Taylor
Boulder to Birmingham by Emmy Lou Harris
