To think it's really, really distasteful to dress up as a 'sexy schoolgirl'?

It's not that I'm a prude or anything. I've done it myself in my twenties several times (for a party, not ahem private titillation)

It's just lately since I've had my own child, and with so much public awareness of paedophilia and its apparent standing as THE crime people hate most, it just seems to grate on me that people can think it's still ok to sexualise what is essentially a child's outfit.

I suppose what I'm trying to say (but not very well) is that it's a bit like dressing as a Nazi for a party. It's not funny because of all the bad connotations & just not the 'done' thing.( but not quite the same, IYSWIM)

I am probably BU, but it just makes me feel a bit 'eew!'

I have never 'got' the whole sexy schoolgirl thing am totally agreeing the paedophillia thing too..
There are a few at work that dress like this when we raise money for charity.

Oh, the Britney Spears video, I'd forgotten about that. That's a perfect example of what I mean.

How can society react with horror at the idea of grown men perving over children on one hand, and at the same time see nothing wrong with women wiggling about in a little gymslips & suspenders.

The 'sexy schoolgirl' look isn't anything like what a real schoolchild wears. The appeal of it is a mixture of rebellion (subverting the demure school uniform) and that whole joy-of-being-young, energy of youth thing.

round here the schoolgirls dress exactly like britney once they hit 12. it's a little unnerving, but also deliberate - vaunting their embryonic sexuality a la lolita. not entirely sure grown women should be advocating the look, more for sartorial reasons lol. (cellulite never good with gym slip)

5 year old girls wearing playboy t-shirts that their mummy bought them, now that's weird.

oh, so are grown men that like to dress like 4 year old girls. that's pretty weird.

This reminds me of about 2 or 3 years ago when I checked DH's ebay account to find that a sexy schoolgirl outfit had been purchased (several sizes too big for me)

Questioned him and he was confused too, it emerged his PARENTS had used his ebay account (but their paypal) to purchase it for his mother (my MIL)

they are both very overweight.

She teaches primary one (4/5 year olds)

I still boak when I think about it. DH just shrugged (he's used to it I guess, he also came across dirty photos when he was a teen...boak!)

It is grim. Little girls are not sex objects. I felt the same when adult women were wearing itty bitty Hello Kitty hair clips and bags etc. No! You are not a little girl and if you think it makes you sexy there is something seriously wrong with you (Paedophile chic )

when i was a teacher i was once in the pub celebrating the end of term when a load of suspendered, eyelinered 'sexy schoolgirls' came in. They were pupils from my school and 15yrs old - so WEIRD - they WERE schoolgirls. Needless to say they took one look at the table full of their teachers and buggered off!

It is distasteful and completely bizarre that it is somehow acceptable for adults to emulate little girls dressing provocatively, when at the same time parents aren't allowed to take photos at nativity plays and teachers aren't allowed to apply suncream to their pupils' skin.

I also recall me and DH going out one night when we were teens (leaving from his house) and he'd forgotten something so we headed back. the blinds were drawn (in the afternoon) and the door was locked. I clocked what was happening and said lets leave it but DH kept banging on the door til they opened it, then he dragged me inside. MIL had a see through skimpy nighty on, nothing at all on underneath...

I dont get on with my ILs but they are very laid back about their sex life. Not the least wee bit embarrassed!
