I sometimes used to forget I had a baby. I lft DD in a shop, and when DH asked "where's the baby?" I couldn't think what he was talking about until after he'd run back in to get her. And I used to be surprised to see the carrycot int he living room when I came out of the kitchen. Only with my second, not with my first, but I do wonder where my instinct went on occassion.

But yes, at 4 days I still had plenty to physically remind me that I had recently had a baby...

When I had my eldest son, I left him with my parents overnight when he was 6 days old. My ex-h and I had been invited to a party and I wanted to go out and see my friends and have a drink

My son was blissfully ignorant to me not being there, my parents loved having him, I got to be me again for a night. No harm done whatsoever.

Oh yes, I left him with them overnight again when he was 6 weeks old. It was christmas eve and we had been invited to another party. My parents have got some very funny photos of them both up with firstborn grandson early hours of christmas day.

When I attended ante-natal classes, no-one ever said that life stopped because you had had a child.

Oh I just remembered, when DS was 4 days old I still had tears down-there and it was a tricky business to do a wee... So no night out would have been worth the hassle for me. But if you're feeling well enough to go out, its probably good for you to get in the mindset that you're a person, who is also mother to a new baby. Because, its easy to forget about your social life when you stay at home with a little baby.

Have only skimmed the thread . . .
But when dd was 4 days old, I went to a Bellydance party night to see my class perform (not dancing myself!) - dd came too! She kind of stole the show .
My stitches really hurt the next day though ,
