To think that health professionals should not call me MUM

DD had her jabs today and the nurse kept on calling me "Mum" even though I said to her that I did not want her to call me "Mum". I told her that it was a biological impossiblity that I was her mother.

I have two children and I am happy for me to call me Mum, but I do have a proper name and I think health professionals should use it.

Looby the thread has moved on but I am just responding to your earlier post. I guess I thought you were generalising about age and you have responded that you weren't. ok. IMO the elderly deserve to be treated with the same level of respect, as anyone else ? i.e. let the measure be that you just treat everyone with respect.

Also I do think that many ideas were put forward and I interpreted some responses as being very resistant to change.

Anyhow having said more than my fair share on this thread I am out of here.

oh i think all the time it's a turn of phrase, they're absolutely not thinking anything at all while saying it, it's just easy and habit. but it's not v polite, basically. v cool if you were to bring it up at your work, kudos.

FairLadyRantALot · 26/08/2009 22:32

hmmmm...but POOR NURSES, USUSALLY FRONTLINE... man they are busy....there is o time to think...you are always on the go, generally on fluctuating, ever changing wards...you run around , and you do your best....but half the time you go home, knowng you are knackered, without being able to recall what you did....totally frustrating...hence me not going back to that...they do not need mangers and letters...they need somemanagers setting a standard and watching over, and they need lots more nurses to do the job, buit the situation is lots of managers not half involved and to little ground staff....
chief/india ratio has to be sorted

Gosh - it's all getting a bit boringly consensual on here, isn't it? Trying to think of something controversial to say. Other than "Mum" of course.

[BTW Snapple "JBAY so do you think I am insane? " - No, should I?]

edam · 28/08/2009 12:57

Wow, checking back here and thread has become even more bizarre than it was last time I saw it.

Bloody well done to Aitch for making the very reasonable point again and again with good humour despite the nasty attacks from hcps outraged that anyone could dare to criticise them or their colleagues.

YorkshireRose · 28/08/2009 13:10

Heck, that is nothing! My MIL calls ne Mum all the time and it drives me nuts! She is basically saying "you have no other useful function on life other than being the mother of my grandkids" !

edam · 28/08/2009 14:07

Your MIL is barking.

YorkshireRose · 28/08/2009 14:11

Tell me about it, edam!

FairLadyRantALot · 28/08/2009 15:34

yorkshire...that is terrible

AitchwonderswhoFruitCrumbleis · 28/08/2009 19:41

yeah, thanks, edam. it did feel at times like getting sucked into a bizarro thread vortex considering my opinion is, as jybay notes, not in the slightest controversial...
