And make them change all my details to Dr Trillian?

(not Dr Trillian of course, actually Dr Realname, but you know what I mean )

Or is it too unbelievably poncey?

I could pretend it's feminism - why should I have to choose a gender-specific title? - but really I just want people to call me Dr!

megapixels · 09/09/2010 11:31

You don't have to take the certificate do you? Dh chooses Dr. on all his forms but hasn't had to show any proof.

Headbanger · 09/09/2010 11:33

Are you kidding? When I submit mine I'm going to get it tattooed on my forehead, never mind my damn bank cards Grin!

TrillianAstra · 09/09/2010 11:33

You can choose it on a form when you are opening a new account, but my bank wanted proof in order to change it.

jenny60 · 09/09/2010 12:32

No way, I never had show anything to prove it. I once ticked 'Lady' in the titles options box by mistake and dh nealry killed himself laughing when he saw Lady Jenny60 on the letter (so not me). It's amazing how easily they accepted that that was my title when Dr seems to cause all sorts of problems Hmm

Lizcat · 09/09/2010 12:40

Useful places to display Dr title:-

Driving licence
Credit card
Registration at school

Only Benefit to bank account is if they put it on your debit card.

Don't have it on passport in case someone thinks you are medical doctor and asked to help in medical emergency.

nickelbabe · 09/09/2010 12:46

jumpjockey - you would have to be Mrs Bob... as you can only use Dr with the surname that you had when you earned the Dr.

so you can be Dr Jumpjockey
but not Dr Bob.

CrystalQueen · 09/09/2010 12:48

My granny used to tell people that I was one of those brainy doctors, not a real doctor Sad
Didn't stop her from asking me what all her pills were for...

After 7 years I still haven't got round to putting it on anything official (except my bus season ticket!).

JaneS · 09/09/2010 13:46

Lizcat - my mum swears by using it when you apply for child benefit/register at hospital when you're pregnant. Doctors then think you might be one of them, so less likely to ignore what you're saying.

Dartsissolastseason · 09/09/2010 13:48

I don't have any qualifications of the sort to add letters, let alone a Dr Grin, but my preference these days is to ignore title completely where possible.

EG I generall go by FIRSTNAME, SURNAME. No Miss/Ms for me (not married yet, so definitely no Mrs), and this includes the business cards.

Oddly enough, many people assume that no gener/title equals man, and I get so many calls/letters referring to Mr Darts, etc.

Annoying.

Awre · 26/07/2011 13:58

I am writing up my thesis at mo (although have ended up on Mumsnet??!) - If I get this PhD I am going to change my bank details - I wouldn't call myself Dr for other non-work purposes though.

MrsMustardSeed · 26/07/2011 15:32

do it if you like - I was too embarrassed, but I did open up any subsequent bank accounts as Dr (you don't have to provide proof unless you're changing your title). It's helpful with loan/ mortgage applications Smile

MrsMustardSeed · 26/07/2011 15:34

Also helpful with the Ms/Mrs DRAMA Grin

It is 2011 but they still find it hard to comprehend Hmm

activate · 26/07/2011 15:35

youarekidding · 26/07/2011 16:08

I'd say go for it - it may help you get better service too as they'll see the £ signs that go with a DR title. Grin

Congratualations btw.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 26/07/2011 16:10

get it changed. you earned it. DR Trillian sounds fab to me. Grin

I do like the idea of chugging down champers on a plabe. Wink

itisnearlysummer · 26/07/2011 16:12

So DrTrillian. did you ever go down to the bank and change it?

startail · 26/07/2011 17:39

I never got my Phd crap supervisorSad
Would quite possibly used it on bank stuff, gets round all that mrs ms nonsense.

jenniec79 · 26/07/2011 17:41

It's worth making sure the bank know that Dr T is you - in case you need to pay in funds in that name. Can be a problem otherwise.
