And make them change all my details to Dr Trillian?

(not Dr Trillian of course, actually Dr Realname, but you know what I mean )

Or is it too unbelievably poncey?

I think it's easy to set up an account with anything you like, it's the changing that I'm worried about, feel we might have a 'computer says no' incident if I don't have a piece of paper for them to photocopy as 'proof'.

ROFL @ using for good not evil!

Go for it why not. Get new card ASAP and feel all smugly chuffed!

PS congratulations

as I should have said in my first post.

I so remember Dh's huuuuuuuuuge relief that it was all over. I think he couldn't bear to look at his thesis for about 2 years though, he was so sick of it

AgentCodyBanks · 19/07/2009 19:56

no i changed
just said i wanted that on my checque book!

ZippysMum · 19/07/2009 20:05

Also worth changing it on your medical card. You def get talked to in more detail by medical professionals if they think you're a Doc (they always seem to assume medical.... ) though it can be a bit embarrassing when they've been spouting all sorts of stuff and then they ask you where you work / what your speciality is and you have to say .. eeer Woodland Ecology...

DrTrillianAstra · 19/07/2009 20:06

Thanks

For telling me what I wanted to hear - I am going to do it.

Dr is handy for credit cards as people under 20 don't want to try using ones with it on!

Both my parents have doctorates too and the conclusion is you do get better tables in restaurants but not much else.

MyGoldenNotebook · 19/07/2009 20:17

Do it! You deserve it!

I wonder if I can ask my Head of Department to create a new sign for my classroom door?

Hmmm [nice dream emoticon]

I'm with you DrTrillian. As we are moving house, I decided after 5 years of not bothering with it I will get everything changed to Dr (as will DW who got her PhD recently too) while we are sending forms in to change addresses anyway.

Katz · 19/07/2009 20:20

i did it! i'm Dr Katz on all my bank stuff, i love phoning up and they say is that Miss or Mrs and i get to say Dr!

wolfnipplechips · 19/07/2009 20:21

Perlease, you have got to take it and make them change it. I once went out with a Dr who even had his video cards as Dr, i think i'd be the same. And after i had done that i'd have it made into a sandwich board and wear it around my home town for a week

Congratulations Dr Trillion.

Shinyshoegirl · 19/07/2009 20:31

Yes, go for it! I did it and have the bank card to prove it. I don't generally use it and I don't work in academia, but I LOVE being able to answer 'Dr' to the question 'Is that Mrs or Miss?'.

MamaHobgoblin · 19/07/2009 21:59

Do it! Do it now while you can be arsed it's still fresh (and don't be like me: still 'Miss' and not even 'Ms', let alone 'Dr' on my bank cards etc. I did used to say 'No, DOCTOR, actually' when the overdraft dept asked if it was Miss or Mrs. Never did me any good... ).

Congats!

PussinJimmyChoos · 19/07/2009 22:02

You worked hard enough for it! I can remember a PhD student when I was at uni running over and proudly showing me her shiny new bank card with Dr whatever on it!

Congrats! What's it in btw?

peppapighastakenovermylife · 19/07/2009 22:12

Hell no - I submit in a few weeks and am going to insist everyone calls me Dr! Actually that reminds me of the embarrassment when I passed my BSC and my mum sent me a card with 'peppapig bsc' to my student address

MichKit · 19/07/2009 22:12

NOT PONCEY !!! I did it as soon as I got mine. Dr Jones now, unfortunately :-))

JoesMummy09 · 19/07/2009 22:27

You don't need poof of title to change it with the bank (at least not the one I work for). You can be Lady, Mrs, Ms, Wing-Commander, Countess, whatever.

We just take your word for it. We really don't mind what title you choose to give yourself (and I've seen them all) as long as you're nice!

I had a boyfriend once who was doctor on his driving licence. He was nothing of the kind. Don't even think he had any A levels.

Jaquelinehyde · 19/07/2009 22:42

I say do it and do it now!

I would be shouting it from the rooftops

Tidey · 19/07/2009 22:44

Do it, and add 'BSC, SSC'. Tell them that it means Bronze Swimming Certificate and Silver Swimming Certificate. I've been rewatching Red Dwarf recently and it's affecting my mind.

edam · 19/07/2009 22:50

but what if you don't have a bronze swimming cert.? Will a nasty man from the Fraud Squad come round and speak sternly to you?

I also say go for it, saves all those tedious Mrs/Miss/Ms arguments and think it is fab particularly if your husband is a Mr. Really confuses telesales people!

Kbear · 19/07/2009 22:56

Do it. Well done!

many years ago we all changed our bank details after qualifying~on the dubious advice of those in the year above us and due to very mean behaviour by bank managers at the time giving us a hard time as students so we were exacting revenge...

I wouldn't really advocate it,people often ask and you'll spend your time explaining,no,not medical,in...

I remember once in Liverpool my card being retained behind the counter while security checks were carried out as I must have looked too young/casual at the time so they thought it was stolen lol

personally I would prefer Ms but it is difficult now to change all bank details on different accounts/mortgages as they still store the old details and their computers get confused

also I'm sure prices go up sometimes when you pay by cheque and people think you must be well off

cockneydadtobe · 19/07/2009 23:06

As a fellow PhD graduate, I say go ahead and change your title - we have more of a history and right to use it than medical Dr's (unless they have an MD).... in my line of work I have to use it - be warned though, the novelty does wear off after a while

morningsun · 19/07/2009 23:10

why would you have to use Dr on your cheque book in connection with work, cockneydad?

That's not the reason you have it lol
