I don't think you need to take your certificate you know! But I think it is poncey I'm afraid. Only for use in professional correspondence - or when fishing for a mortgage

Profiterole - DH is a PhD and thinks it's poncy to use the title for non-work reasons, just as it would look poncy to put "BA (hons) 1st class" after my name on everything - he hasn't changed anything.

I however sometimes tick the dr box on his behalf if I think it will help on forms

You should of course do whatever you like Trillian and it is not at ALL unreasonable to do it - but since you did specifically ask whether it was poncy, that's just my opinion

Trillian - I think they only want proof to change your name name - like as in your surname.

They don't (usually?) require proof of your title - you just tick whatever box you want.

Only time I thought it unreasonable was when my schoolfriends dad used to park in the doctors only parking at hospital/GP on the basis of his Phd in (I think) history

I've found the form, now I have to decide whether to ask for a new card immediately or just wait til the old one runs out.

Just look after your certificate, and know that if you need to get a transcript you can do so for a few £££.

Dr has got to help with the credit scoring so definitely change it. Plus you earned it, you get to show it off.

not insurance I don't think - they usually assess on the basis of your professional category rather than your title.

But some other things it does seem to help.

A friend always puts it on her travel docs because she swears you get upgraded more often . I would be too worried about getting tapped on the shoulder if a first class passenger had a heart attack.

Just wait until someone collapses in the bank and they grab you for your resuscitation skills!

In that case if I ever get upgraded on a plabe I will chug down the champagne like there's no tomorrow, and they will fear to ask me to do anything, let alone medical procedures!
