AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Treacle, are you feline?

...he's lucky my society thinks that blondeness is a moral virtue; it has protected him from suspicion of degenerate views...

llandb · 29/09/2009 17:36

Clues, please, pretty please?

... But despite his blondeness, they won't allow him to get away with thinking that sickness isn't criminal! Though I sympathise - pretty good for a lass from a Backward place in the middle of Nowhere....

steamedtreaclesponge · 29/09/2009 19:15

...Not feline - I was following someone but didn't realise where he was going...

More clues, please!

llandb · 29/09/2009 19:19

Clutching at straws, Treacle, but are you two planning to marry - until you chicken out?

... the balloon is up! (Which we managed because it wasn't a Machine) - and now, off with my beloved, to his old life sheep-farming in the colonies....

steamedtreaclesponge · 29/09/2009 20:31

...No, quite the opposite - I'm sure he's up to something dodgy and I want to find out what it is!

llandb, simply had to google yours and find out what it was! Is it by the wallpaper man?

llandb · 29/09/2009 20:59

Er... ... nope, not if you mean the bloke who shares a name with a Minor car and wrote about something from Nowhere...

But Nowhere is very close to the mark - though references to Backwards and Sheep may be in order....

steamedtreaclesponge · 29/09/2009 22:17

Ah, of course! Found it. Another one to add to the list...

llandb · 30/09/2009 11:12

Too much effort; it's in the middle of blimmin' erewhon

Anyway, AIBU to confide in this lad? He probably thinks he should turn me in, but then, he's on the run, too...

Clues, pleasepleasepleaseplease?

steamedtreaclesponge · 30/09/2009 11:21

llandb, did your uncle just kill one of your friends?

...Well, we made it to London OK, but I'm worried he spotted me in the dancehall. And what on earth was going on in that deserted ice-cream factory?

CJCregg · 30/09/2009 11:41

llandb, are you in a graveyard?

llandb · 30/09/2009 12:38

No to both... I'm on a raft...

pollywobbledoodle · 30/09/2009 13:44

llandb and treacle are either of you from whit? either whit or morag?

steamedtreaclesponge · 30/09/2009 13:56

...No, not me (don't think so, anyway!) I followed this chap again, and whoops! I seem to have accidentally landed in France. Better keep my uniform covered up with all these Boches around...

llandb · 30/09/2009 14:10

... Nope, but we're on a big river. We were on an island until someone spotted smoke and the lad heard that they suspected I might be there...

steamedtreaclesponge · 30/09/2009 15:28

Are you in the States, llandb? And is your companion a bit of a scallywag?

llandb · 30/09/2009 17:38

Yes, indeed, treacle - and named after a strange kind of berry!

As for you, are you a gal with a freckled sidekick?

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/10/2009 01:18

Can't say "Evening," at this time so greetings and salutations, all!

Whew, you do come up with some bafflers, Treacle. More clues smiley! I'm glad you're enjoying Jasper Fforde. If only copyright didn't prevent him romping around with more modern stuff - I'd love to see what havoc he could wreak in Harry Potter.

Back to my neglected AIBU:

...I think I've tricked them. I've told them little boys are for pudding only...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 01/10/2009 11:00

I am, llandb! Well, I have to have someone vaguely sensible to join me in rescuing all these men from France!

Actually, Harry Potter has been mentioned and Temperance Brennan has popped up in the Fforde I'm reading at the moment, although just the characters, rather than their books, IYSWIM.

AIBU to hate our house guest?

llandb · 01/10/2009 11:02
llandb · 01/10/2009 11:06

Yay, Treacle! it just had to be her, but I confess I have only read one thing with your character and it wasn't that one (involved a swearing Aussie with a heart of gold instead! ). So a spot of cheating with Google was required

steamedtreaclesponge · 01/10/2009 11:41

I've only read one as well, but I like the sound of the swearing Aussie - what would Bill say?

A zoo, eh? Did you grow up in Greece?

llandb · 01/10/2009 11:57

You'll have to track down ' of the Islands' to find out! My niece has custody of the copy I read (well, got for her but had to read to ensure suitability ) - so that one's out of the loop.

Not that particular zoo worker - I have a day-job as an exhibit...

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/10/2009 13:42

My word, Treacle, you are gobbling up the Jasper Ffordes if you've got to that one already!

I've worked out Llandb was Huck Finn but I don't know who you were when you were rescuing soldiers from France.

For your current one, is the house guest an old friend of your father? And Llandb, do you have two heads?

...They're not very bright so if I convince them little boys are for pudding only and they should begin with a starter of jelly I can buy some time...

OP posts:
llandb · 01/10/2009 13:44

... my recent ancestors were African, but apparently I live in Australia (no swearing, but! )...

llandb · 01/10/2009 13:47

Oopsie, cross-posted!

Now, Moomin, I know that certain mainland Aussies unkindly accuse Tasmanians of having two heads each due to insufficient ancestors, but I was written about on the mainland!
