AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

OP posts:

They do sound quite fun - am solely reading mindless crap at the moment so will add to my reading list!

AIBU to be embarrassed by my friend?

pollywobbledoodle · 25/09/2009 13:07

moomin: yes. mine. sorry.

brain disengaged, back later

pollywobbledoodle · 25/09/2009 13:09

tho' i grew up with the joseph jacobs version....not sure if the pigs get eaten in these sanitised days!

CJCregg · 25/09/2009 13:19

What was llandb's, please? Going mad here ...

Mum did come up with some good names for some of us, but then she chickened out at the last minute ...

llandb · 25/09/2009 13:26

Sorry, CJ, didn't say - Campbell's Kingdom, by Hammond Innes. Late one night I happened to stumble across the film version, in which the painted him as a cad who forcibly kissed a young lady who 'did want to be kissed, but more nicely' - ah, those halcyon days of film-making. He was much nicer in the book

llandb · 25/09/2009 15:26

No, wait, not Tom Clancy (read by Auntie's ex-BF). Still Wilbur Smith. And Frederick Forsyth. Oh dear. I'm going to be thrown out of the derring-do society

I always get 'Wilbur Smith' and 'Willard Price' mixed up. Which is probably mildly BU

Clues, please!

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/09/2009 15:39

Willard Price! Genius. I was obsessed with those books when I was younger. Always quite fancied Roger and his magical touch with the animals...

More clues everyone else please! I've completely given up on CJ's, are there any other ones still going on?

...She just wears such funny clothes...

CJCregg · 25/09/2009 15:50

Grrr ... nobody's going to get mine, are they?

It would all have been so simple if she'd just gone for a bit of variety. I wouldn't have minded being called Marvin O'Gravel Balloonface, at least I'd have known which one I was ...

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/09/2009 15:54

Aha... a case of Too Many Daves, I think? Very clever!

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/09/2009 16:25

Ah, Dr Seuss! Went right over my head I'm afraid, CJ. Now, it's been rechristened Dave the Beekeeper for me.

And Polly, you are a minx! But a very clever one.

Treacle, does your friend wear odd stockings and outsize shoes?

...I like the book very much. But I don't want to go to sleep with it in the room.

'Evenin', Minxes!

So, a hair-sacrificer again. WIBU to let my suitor cut my hair?

pollywobbledoodle · 25/09/2009 20:18

llandb, is it golden?

llandb · 25/09/2009 21:07

Yes - which identifies me as a princess! And it grows an inch a day - or it used to, before the first time it was cut...

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/09/2009 21:23

...No, she's just rather unfashionable. And she's not interested in boys, which can make things a bit awkward sometimes...

More clues please!

llandb · 25/09/2009 21:35

Treacle, is she a witch?

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/09/2009 22:12

...No, just old-fashioned. My parents think she's the bees knees but I just find her annoying at times...

pollywobbledoodle · 26/09/2009 02:15

llandb, does your suitor ask you to let down your golden hair?

llandb · 26/09/2009 10:45

Not exactly - he asks me to twist it three times around a great iron hook by my window, and then jump!

And another time he tells me to cut it myself - but he speaks through an ear-trumpet...

Clues?

pollywobbledoodle · 26/09/2009 11:12

aah! llandb you are melisand (sp), i love that story!

llandb · 26/09/2009 11:31

Chandelier time, polly!

I hadn't read it for yonks, so had to cheat a tad

pollywobbledoodle · 26/09/2009 11:38

thanks for sharing your crib notes...an interesting site isn't it?

llandb · 26/09/2009 11:57

It doesn't address my short-lived belief in the tooth ferry

pollywobbledoodle · 26/09/2009 12:12

Would have taken a lot of teeth to build one of those {grin}

ps Melisande has just turned up on the baby names thread!

llandb · 26/09/2009 12:58

Thought the big boat came into houses and collected the teeth! It was so implausible that I believed it It's me da's fault for having an ambiguous accent and telling me as we were travelling past a humungous boat

Cor, better go and nosey at the names thread!

And Treacle, I fancied Roger, too

steamedtreaclesponge · 26/09/2009 13:27

Llandb, your last one is on FilmFour now!

...She just caught me reading her diary - I realise now how mean I've been to her. Being cross because she wouldn't lie for me was rather unfair...
