MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Pogleswood · 15/09/2009 20:24

So,Moomin, might you be aboard The Black Pig?
In which case YANBU at all!

Pieces of eight,pieces of eight...

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/09/2009 20:34

Yes, bang on target again, Pogle! I don't know what Cap'n Pugwash and the rest of the crew would do without me!

AIBU to think growing bird seed is a not a fitting end to my bloodthirsty career on the high seas?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 15/09/2009 21:59

moomin....did dr doolittle pull a switch on you?

pollywobbledoodle · 15/09/2009 22:05

Heave ho bilge rats!i can't think of any other pirate stories so will offer a pirate's dictionary

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/09/2009 22:36

Arr, Polly, he did, indeed, the lubber. Threatened to feed us to the sharks if we didn't mend our ways. Think of it, me the terror of the Barbary Coast raisin' food for canaries!

AIBU to think this has been a pretty unlucky voyage?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 15/09/2009 22:39

Sudden thought, be it a bit windy where you be, Treacle?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 16/09/2009 11:49

...Aye, that dratted hurricane be messin' up all my plans.

Arr IBU to trick a woman on board so I can seduce her?

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/09/2009 12:06

Be you one of they sneaky Frenchies, Treacle? Don't 'ee know wimmin on board is bad luck?

Your other one was on my list of pirate titles to do - I'm running out of them!

...First, we got stuck with escorting those VIPs on their diplomatic mission and what a PITA they turned out to be...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 16/09/2009 12:17

Yes, the Sinful Sausage deserves to go down as one of the best ships in pirate literature methinks!

...No, not French, although I don't know why I didn't think of that one! This woman ended up coming on board with a couple of chaps, so I thought I'd include them in the fun as well...

More clues please!

llandb · 16/09/2009 12:24

And now, llandb be cheatin' slightly on the genre front.

AIBU to want a nice safe cage?

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/09/2009 12:29

Be you a realio, trulio little pet dragon, Llandb?

Treacle, I be stumped!

...And then our ship hit a reef...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 16/09/2009 12:32

...And while they were otherwise occupied, I got my crew to steal all their treasure! Well, that is what pirates are supposed to do, after all...

No ideas about anyone else's, think my pirate knowledge is sadly lacking...

llandb · 16/09/2009 13:23

Aye, Moomin, I be Custard the dragon, snortin' like an engine at yon pirate climbin' in the winda!

But I be sunk as a galleon on t'rest....

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/09/2009 18:38

Masterfully dastardly, Treacle! But I have no idea who you are, though!

...It was an uncharted reef but the damage wouldn't have been so great if that nincompoop had obeyed my orders about shortening sail at night. Still, you can't lock the stable door after you've sold the bear...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/09/2009 10:55

I really feel like I should know what yours is, Moomin, but I'm still stuck!

...I suppose it was a mean trick - she was only looking for her stolen daughter, after all, and as a woman myself perhaps I should have had more sympathy...

llandb · 17/09/2009 17:31

Avast an' arr, becalmed an' perplexed is what I be o' all yourn!

llandb · 17/09/2009 20:04

I be beggin' fer clues, me hearties an' scurvy bilge-rats!

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/09/2009 00:48

Evening all!

Poor auntie, Llandb! Maybe she'm decoyed on that rascal Treacle's boat! Can't trust that Treacle wi' wimminfolk.

Treacle, be you a mythical type?

...So we abandoned ship (in an orderly manner as befits the Navy) and landed at this island intending to make repairs. But a hurricane blew up and put paid to the ship for good, and most of our stores. We think it put paid to the VIP and his entourage too, but it was a pity they took the cutter...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 18/09/2009 09:10

Ahoy, maties! I be scuppered, more clues please!

...Nay, we be real enough! They were strange pirates, though - don't usually get idealistic types sailin' the high seas, let alone a witch and some ex-highway robbers...

Pogleswood · 18/09/2009 13:54

Pogle pops in to look at thread, swigging rum, despairs of ever solving any of these, swigs more rum...

Mind slightly fogged by strong drink - so treacle, you are a pirate?and gay? and you were boarded by more pirates?

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/09/2009 15:45

I be gumswizzled, Treacle! So be there any cats in this saga o' yourn?

...There isn't much food on this island so the carpenter is trying to lengthen the launch so we can get away. I say, there's a young lady a bit scantily clad in the bosom department just landed! Oh, and some chap, too...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 18/09/2009 15:59

Argh,I be gumswizzled too,but I've bin a-searching on that ol'Google , and I reckon you might be a seadog in His Majesty's Navy,by the name of Jack Aubrey,Moomin.
If not ,please - more clues!

steamedtreaclesponge · 18/09/2009 16:54

Aye, Pogle, ye might be onto somethin' there - was thinkin' along similar ropes meself about Moomin's...

And aye, I be a female pirate, although perhaps less gay and more indiscriminate... And I asked them to come aboard me ship, friendly-like, but twas all a trick, ye see! But I can't deny that she was hot stuff i'th'sack - methinks she may well have been a famous whore back when she lived in London...

Pogleswood · 18/09/2009 18:40

sounds absolutely riveting..

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/09/2009 19:01

...Such a pretty young lady. Who would have thought she'd turn out to be a Dyak pirate!

Aye, Pogle, you'm hit the mark again, twas ol' Jack Aubrey a admirin' of mischeevous females' bosoms!

And, Treacle, I be still gumswizzled - there bein' sich a lot of loose wimminfolk hailin' from Lunnon to choose from.

...AIBU to think we'd a had a sight less trouble if we'd knocked those pesky brats on the head?
