I hate them but it is a democracy and they are entitled to free speech. Imagine how martyred they would be if they weren't allow their go at blethering on the telly?

you can turn it off so maybe a teeny bit U. eeeeek no, that sounds like I support them

/ confused

mrsrawlinson · 26/05/2009 18:36

Nope. Makes my blood boil too. But as the saying goes, if you don't believe in freedom of speech for your most despised enemy, you don't believe in it at all.

FabulousBakerGirl · 26/05/2009 18:36

I couldn't turn off as I was busy MNting but I get your point.

FabulousBakerGirl · 26/05/2009 18:37

Didn't think of the freedom of speech thing.

nickytwotimes · 26/05/2009 18:39

Yanbu.
I would love to see them banned.
I do not buy the free speech thing in their case as they are undemocratic and therefore should not be allowed to participate in the democratic process.
Also they incite racial hatred.

And they are ignorant racist (and utterly sexist) wankers.

I'd rather they felt martyred and were pushed out tbh.

mrsrawlinson · 26/05/2009 18:39

Pity there's not an equivalent right to hang these people up by their boy bits and take turns poking them with big pointy sticks. Now that's something I'd vote for....

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/05/2009 18:40

Just posted about this in chat!

Freedom of speech is one thing, but incitement to hatred is another - and I think it came pretty close to that.

totalmisfit · 26/05/2009 18:43

i think any real democracy must by definition have its share of nutcase parties... they probably provide some kind of safety valve for those who would otherwise commit atrocities because of their shortsighted/skewed/warped beliefs.

mrsrawlinson · 26/05/2009 18:45

IKWYM Nicky, and they're enough to make any reasonable person purple with fury, but the freedom of speech thing isn't about their feelings. It's to circumvent any rubbish they'd inevitably come out with about the 'Real Truth' being covered up. Just makes things worse in the long run for everyone. Ironically, if they ever did get in (God forbid), what's the first thing that would happen to Freedom of Speech? I bet I know.

GypsyMoth · 26/05/2009 18:45

doesn't bother me in the slightest.....i rarely watch tv!!

ginormoboobs · 26/05/2009 18:56

YABU
They have a right to be heard (unfortunately) , we don't have to listen to them.
I ended up on a chat forum today where there was a debate about voting for the bnp. Several people who were non-white were planning to vote for them because there are too many immigrants in this country and they want their country to go back to British
Just goes to show that people really will believe anything. Do they really believe that the BNP would hesitate to toss them out with all of the other people on their hate list
I don't understand why anyone would vote for them.

itchyandscratchy · 26/05/2009 18:58

The broadcast was sooo tacky and home-made; more like a local double-glazing advert with a voiceover that sounded like it was done from inside a tin bucket.

mrsboogie · 26/05/2009 18:58

I didn't hear it and can't recall listening to any of their party political broadcasts but they won't be doing the incitement to racial hatred on the telly surely?

I think it might be counter productive to ban them though.

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/05/2009 19:30

mrsboogie - I did listen to it - and using terms like 'swamped' in reference to immigration, and 'Britain for the British' are pretty close to the bone, don't you think?

mrsboogie · 26/05/2009 19:46

they aren't a million miles from statements made by the mainstream parties to be honest - I think the BNP is very careful about what it says publicly.

Of course context is all and we know what is behind it is racist extremist fascistic etc but they keep up a pretence of public reasonableness.

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/05/2009 20:11

What do you mean, mrsboogie? What have the mainstream parties been saying that is so similar?

This is my real fear about the BNP - that they come across as mainstream and reasonable, when their real agenda is much more unpleasant/sinister.

mrsboogie · 26/05/2009 20:21

well, I was thinking of when Gordon Brown said "British jobs for British people" for example.

The BNP have to try to come across as mainstream and reasonable but I don't think that many people are fooled by them. The vast majority know that the the skinheads and jackboots are still there, behind the suits.

luvoneson · 26/05/2009 21:07

Are they racist? NO, I voted BNP last year. How would you lot feel if one of your loved ones was blown up on the tube by an illigal immigrant sucide bomber. Do you like having to wait for months for a hospital appt, when all our spaces are being taken up by foreigners etc etc I could go on. Dont start me off. If you lot like living in what was once a beautiful country which has been taken over by foreigners (some illegal) then good for you. My dh loves paying over 40percent tax which part of goes to keeping these people on benefits. Its not just the foreigners its other things as well. I could go on all night.

luvoneson · 26/05/2009 21:11

Nickytwotimes, Oh its all right then when these muslims can incite racial hatred. And the poor soldiers geered at on their homecoming march. You think thats right do you. They hate the country that has given them a better life and they hate us. Who are the racists?

EffieGadsby · 26/05/2009 21:13

Why is it that racists are so bad at spelling and grammar? Is it just another indicator of their utter stupidity?

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/05/2009 21:15

If it's so bad here, luvoneson, why don't you leave?

And why don't you go on all night, so that we can see just how prejudiced/ignorant you are?

Some proof for your wild claims for a start ...

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 26/05/2009 21:16

Luvoneson = you are taking the piss aren't you.

How are the policies not racist?

cheshirekitty · 26/05/2009 21:18

I work with some wonderful people who save lives every day. Guess what, they work for the NHS. Guess what? They where not born in the UK.

I just cannot fathom the BNP or racism. How can people be so stupid?

stainesmassif · 26/05/2009 21:18

oh dear luvoneson, do you really have the energy for this? however, i respect your freedom of speech and will defend your right to make a complete and utter ar5e of yourself. go for it!

luvoneson · 26/05/2009 21:19

I'm no racist, I am only saying what most people in this country think, but are too scared to say, because of silly people like you. Try living in London!!! I did but no longer.
