NORTHERN IRELAND ? an end to sectarianism!

Britain has shamefully allowed the terrorists in Northern Ireland to come close to winning when the IRA could have been destroyed years ago. Government weakness has led to hundreds of deaths and given those same terrorists a share in government. We would end all attempts to force the people of Northern Ireland to accept foreign interference in their affairs and deal with terrorism ? from whatever side ? once and for all. No one with links to a terrorist organisation that refuses to lay down its arms should be allowed to enter government. We would abolish state-supported segregation in education. In the long run, we wish to end the conflict in Ireland by welcoming Eire as well as Ulster as equal partners in a federation of the nations of the British Isles.

I always feared the BNP, although living in the North of Ireland and with our own assembly, I always thought that it would never even affect me. Not so.....according to the extract above, they wish to make all 32 counties part of UK!!! Frightening the heartache that this would cause.....on both sides of the Irish Sea. We (in NI) can't vote for or(as the case is more likely) not vote for these poeple. Please please please, these guys NEED to be stopped!

mayorquimby · 27/05/2009 10:22

yabu.
i detest the bnp, but i defend their right to participate in the democratic process as a legitimate political party.
in the same way that i hate seeing the bnp on the tv i also hate seeing many liberal activists on tv. doesn't mean i think they should be banned.

MrsMerryHenry · 27/05/2009 13:57

I don't 'defend' their right to participate in the democratic process. I grudgingly accept it. But I do think they make themselves look like muppets when they venture out of their caves and start talking.

MayorQ, I am about your statement that they are a 'legitimate' political party. Someone on question time (Simon Hughes?) recently said that they are not a 'normal' party in the sense that we all understand and accept, but I can't remember the explanation given of why this is so.

mayorquimby · 27/05/2009 14:04

how can you be at that? it's a statement of fact. they are a legitimately recognised political party.

MrsMerryHenry · 27/05/2009 14:06

Yes, I wish I could remember what it was Simon Hughes said on that programme. It wasn't about their technical legitimacy, if that makes sense, it was more about why what they stand for and the way they go about it makes them 'not normal'; different from the other parties.

jumpingbeans · 27/05/2009 14:28

Can someone tell me, with shouting and getting all arsey, why if they get no benifits or handouts, do all the immigrants half kill themesleves to get here?, they are not being persicuted(sp) in france, but risk life and limb to get to england, and this new lot coming from afghanistan, when i saw them on the tv, the only six words they knew in english were" i need to get to england" why?

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:32

Jumpingbeans

Perhaps you should ask the people who know - the immigrants concerned.

roulade · 27/05/2009 14:33

Luvoneson, i have sympathised with you whilst lurking on other threads, that sympathy has gone out the window now. Racist, Homophobic people make me SICK.
People are people no matter where they are from, what colour they are and if they want to shag their own sex then fair play to them.
The BNP may have the right to freedom of speech but intelligent people are obliged to THINK before they vote.
BNP = SCUM

jumpingbeans · 27/05/2009 14:34

thanks, that was real helpful

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:35

Maybe, though, like most immigrants, they want a better life: a chance to work, to raise families without the threat of war - a big attraction of Britain is it's an island, ask the Jews.

Maybe the reason they want to get out of France is because the FN, the French equivalent of the BNP, is taken so seriously in certain aprts of the country ....

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:36

In what way was it unhelpful? Who else would know?

Have you got some reason for not making an effort to find out what the immigrants actually think?

jumpingbeans · 27/05/2009 14:37

thankyou, wer'nt too difficult was it.

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:38

No.

In fact, it was so easy, you could probably have worked it out for yourself.

jumpingbeans · 27/05/2009 14:39

Obv not, or i would'nt have asked

pramspotter · 27/05/2009 14:41

There were literally over a thousand Brits living in my home state in the USA. I came over here to even things up a bit.

Whoever it was that said that they are paying 40% tax to keep immigrants on benefits was way off base. Your 40% tax bill is going on perks for MP's.

I realised once while still in the US that my government spends way more on bombs to bomb innocent people in one day than they spend on welfare mothers in a year. Yet people always whinge about the people on welfare. So fucktarded.

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:45

This is as pointless as it is dull.

I'm doing what we sometimes call, "guessing," because I am not an immigrant.

You could have tried your hand at "guessing" too. All you need to do is think, "if it was me, why might I consider doing what these people are doing?"

But the sad thing about this "guessing" lark is that you can never be sure you're right until you check with someone who actually knows - in this case, the immigrants concerned.

Now, the internet is a big place and I am sure that, in the time it took you to type your initial query, you could have googled immigrants' reasons for coming here.

I mean, you did actually want an answer, yeah? You weren't just trying to provoke a row or anything?

Roseability · 27/05/2009 14:55

I just read the BNP manifesto

They want to bring back corporal and capital punishment

Also brings to mind Hitler's mode of brainwashing the masses. Lets find a scapegoat for our country's problems, and stir up hatred against them

jumpingbeans · 27/05/2009 14:57

No i deff did not want a row or cause trouble, it was a genuine question, and if you did'nt know, why respond, i never asked you to guess, i can do that myself

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:58

Of course it brings Hitler to mind.

Because they are a Fascist party and openly (even if not officially) pro-Nazi - see recent pic of members giving "sieg heil" to senior member.

pjmama · 27/05/2009 14:59

I don't care what they do. They are free to say whatever they like, wherever they like. And I am free to totally ignore it for the drivel that it is.

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 14:59

Well then you are on a hiding to nothing, aren't you? The only people wjho know are the immigrants - I started by suggesting you find out what they think - you told me that was unhelpful.

One thing you and I have in commmon is that neither of us know what you are talking about.

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 15:01

Pjmama - do not count on remaining "free to totally ignore it for the drivel that it is" if these people ever get to power.

It's happened before and it can happen again.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 27/05/2009 15:11

luvoneson - Im not taking the piss, I am sincerely interested. Can you tell me about your own education? What kind of work you do/have done? What qualifications you have and what newspapers you read?

I say this because for years I felt the same as you and was led by my parents views.

Its only after I started to get a decent education and reading facts (not opinions) for myself that my own views radically changed.

To everyone else - I think that being abusive or condemning will not get anyone anywhere, but listening will help us to learn an awful lot....

MIFLAW · 27/05/2009 15:21

Fair point in theory, SpamGlam - but is learning ALWAYS a two-way street?

I mean, clearly you learned by finding facts from society and people in the know - but did they learn anything useful from you at the time apart from that you held racist views?

I conced that now you are in a position to teach because you are basing what you say on fact and lived experience. I doubt that anyone representing the "other side" on here can say that ...

MrsMerryHenry · 27/05/2009 15:28

Spamglam - it did become a bit school playground on here last night, didn't it?

Luvone, bless her, made herself such an easy target and it was soooo hard to hold back. But I did. I would have liked to say a hell of a lot more unpleasant things about how badly she came across but decided to bow out instead.

Well done you for not being rigid about your viewpoint on life, and for educating yourself instead. That is the one thing that luvone showed loudly and clearly that she has not done, in spite of her private school education.
