made a comment on a thread, and i have to say it wasnt worded the way i meant it, and oml it was chaos. When i first joined, i opened a thread, and most of the replies barr a few were quite unkind, hmmmmm is i the only one with this problem? or is it a mumsnet thing?

It is bitchy on occasions...

Most people would not be like this if they had to use their real names.

It is like the worst mother and toddler group you can imagine!

PheasantPlucker · 10/04/2009 16:31

Oh I promise you, in real life on this issue I would certainly stand up and be counted. OP was offensive in her original post in my opinion. There you go.

Peachy · 10/04/2009 16:45

Peachy is my real name, well almost- enough to easily id

I would stand by what I say on here, I wouldnt post it either

ItsMargotBeaurEGGarde · 10/04/2009 16:47

If My screen name were my real name, I'd probably hold back a bit too.

MIAeatingeggs · 10/04/2009 16:53

YABU.
I think it easy to see MN as more than just a forum of different people from all walks of life gathering to pass comment, judge, chat, discuss and debate with other people. But that's all it is, a forum ( a very good one imo)

I think it is good to get involved in threads and have strong opinions on either side of the fence, but what you can't do is equate to to RL ifyswim. Once you get over the posting styles of different MNetters you can appreciate the debates that go on without people having to censor themselves, but by the same token you have to take the inevitable backlash if you say something that people may find offensive. Its a forum on a computer, you can turn off at any time!

FWIW I do think it is important that these debates can happen and it opens up issues that other people may not have encountered or thought about before.

cornsilk · 10/04/2009 17:18

(nosy)What was the op's original post then?

Peachy · 10/04/2009 17:19

See hangingbellyofbabylon's post at 9.28

cornsilk · 10/04/2009 17:22

Ah. Thanks Peachy.

MIAeatingeggs · 10/04/2009 18:25
LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 10/04/2009 18:44

No that's NOT the original Ops post that's PART of the orginal ops post which has been taken completely out of context.

TotalChaos · 10/04/2009 18:50

The whole post was longer, and discussing attitudes towards termination. Apparently the quote was meant to be showing an extreme view someone might hold about disability. Given it was not punctuated or explained as such, but was put in the "I" form, I genuinely thought it was the poster's personal opinion.

nkf · 10/04/2009 18:52

I don't really understand "it wasn't worded the way I meant it". All you've got here are words. YOu have to try to get them right.

"p.s, perhaps i did word my original post wrongly, and i certainly would not like to think people think im discriminating against disabled people, cause that was not my intention. my intention had been, to type good and bad views of different circumstances, as to why people might or might not have thier babies. If you read through the middle of the thread people started quoting religions etc etc as to why people shouldnt have terminations.
I didnt really want to explain about my son, thats why i used alternative views, however, post did come across how id meant it too.im sorry if i offended people, think thats the problem with a thread of this type, you will always end up upsetting someone with your opinion "

as she said her opinion!!!
can't copy over the offensive post as mn hq deleted it

welshbyrd · 10/04/2009 18:59

I quoted 4-5 extreme views, for and against abortions in the post, not just the one that has upset people, so if you all think that was my personal opinion, why would i have stated other views against it?,

And peachy that post of hangingbelly was not the original post.

if you read through this thread, you will see opinions of people who ACTUALLY seen the original post, there are lots of people stating they seen the post, and understood it wasnt meant in the way it has been turned around to become

OP posts:
welshbyrd · 10/04/2009 19:05

but i didnt give just one opinion 2shoes, there was 4-5 example of pro abortion and against abortion, so if infact these were my genuine opinions, i would be for abortion and against abortion, so which one is it? i didnt once type my opinion, i type your opinion, as in other peoples opinions, which i may have worded wrongly, which hmmmmmmmm how many times have a wrote an apology for offending anyone that read what i typed in a way i was not intending

OP posts:
Peachy · 10/04/2009 19:06

Erm Welsh if you read the opriginal therad I actually stuck up for you on there.

After reading whole thread.

And I linked to HB's post as its the closest and because as 2shoes copied yes she did make it sund as if it were her opinion afterwards.

welshbyrd · 10/04/2009 19:07

you have just stragetically copied and paste the bit that you wanted to, and not the whole post. Sorry but if people who didnt read original post, see what you have copied and pasted, of course they are going to be enraged, however you didnt copy and paste all of it did you?

OP posts:
Peachy · 10/04/2009 19:08

OK Welsh here's the thing: could it just possibly be that your written English isn't great so leads to people misunderstanding you?

It may well be English is not your first language in which cse you're a damn site better posting in another tongue than I am, nevertheless I am pretty sure it is compounding the issue.

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 10/04/2009 19:11

but you started this thread. the original post has been deleted, so no one is now going to see it.
I was just trying to show where the confusion came from. as you can see even on the post I copied you were saying it was your opinion.
yet you still insist on saying you are a victim and people are being bitchy.
