Because DP and I genuinely have no cash, we got a great deal (£15 per head for 3 courses) and we are only inviting close family & friends to the wedding. We did specify that this would be INSTEAD of any wedding presents.

(We are getting married now as I am PG, so we brought it forward).

Oh, the reason I ask is that everyone we have verbally invited was very cool with it, but my Mother has kicked off about it

Well, thread has moved on, tis pointless to add my opinion on op's post...so...I will just wish you all a lovely day Enjoy!

Tbh, sometimes I think people put so much into their wedding day they forget that really it is only a means to an end, and it's marriage that is important and that they should concentrate on having a great and happy married life

do tell about your dress...I love hearing about wedding dresses

bratnav · 22/02/2009 20:56

Fairlady - black velvet medieval style with gold edging, big sleeves, square neckline etc. I think there is a link further down this thread.

Oh, just had to post! my best mate in the universe had this dilemma. arranged fab reception at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at an italian. we carefully worked out who we could ask to contribute and who we couldn't. some of us bestest mates got some funds together for booze for the toast(and restaurant kindly turned blind eye to this being brought with us as we were the only ones there. we gathered contributions in advance so it was all paid for upfront. This was followed by a big drink up in pub next door. This was all well within £15 per head and was one of the most enjoyable weddings i have ever been to. Why? because they were getting married for all the right reasons and that makes a HUGE difference. also, the people who went wanted to for all the right reasons. You have a FANTASTIC day...people will remember it for all the right reasons and so will you!

bratnav · 24/02/2009 18:45

Thanks risingstar, sounds like your friend had a fab day
