mamazon is deffo a goody! she has the supernatural powers of being able to reach the ketchup in supermarkets.

Gateau · 04/02/2009 08:43

You're the chav here for putting so much emphasis on where she gets her wedding dress.
Mine was a bridesmaid dress and cost £90 from Debenhams. Perfect for my beack wedding.
I feel sporry fro her, having a shallow and judgemental SIL like you, that's for sure.

Gateau · 04/02/2009 08:44

Excuse typos.

Beach
sorry
for

gingertabbysbeensacked · 04/02/2009 08:44

depends on how good looking she is, if shes stunning she will look great what ever she wears

Tortington · 04/02/2009 08:44

gateau,bad manners!

Tillyscoutsmum · 04/02/2009 08:47

I can see why BhS may seem like an odd choice for a wedding dress, given the rest of their stuff, but honestly, their bridal section is really good. YABU - I'm sure she'll look lovely

and Stretch - you looked stunning

Gateau · 04/02/2009 08:49

Custardo, eh??!

TotalChaos · 04/02/2009 08:53

yabvu. good on her for resisting the media etc pressures to spend unnecessary squillions on weddings.

Tortington · 04/02/2009 08:55

that would be
"Custardo, pardon?"

your postwas unwarrented and rudein light of the tonemostpeopleare taking on the thread.

even in disagreement, they manage to be polite.

bad manners

edam · 04/02/2009 08:55

What's it to do with you how much she spends or doesn't spend? Or which wedding dress she prefers? Honestly, I do think you are being a bit silly/mean here.

5inthebed · 04/02/2009 08:56

I got married in a suit from Primark (as they were the only place that done the colour I wanted) and my shoes and top were from Topshop. This was 8 years ago, and my wedding in totoal cost bout £300. We didn'ttell anyone we were doing it. We got married, went out for a drink in a few pubs, had a nice meal, and then told our parents.

Saved ourselves a small fortune

YABU!

Stretch · 04/02/2009 08:57

Hey Tilly! Your dress was still the most stunning ever!!

TrillianAstra · 04/02/2009 08:58

BHS is horrible in general, but not chavvy.

As a lot of people have said, the chav stereotype is to spend money you don't have on something flashy, preferably with a big 'name'.

This is thrifty 'I don't care where it's from as long as I like it' behaviour well suited to middle-class mumsnetters.

I'd expect to see the opposite, really: AIBU to think my SIL is a 'chav' for wanting to spend £1000 on a boutique wedding dress when this one from BHS looks almost the same?

Gateau · 04/02/2009 09:00

UNWARRANTED, Custardo.
Leanr to spell before you talk shite.
That's my opinion, like it or lump it.

hazeyjane · 04/02/2009 09:00

Well I got married in jeans and jumper and parka (it was cooold!), after we got married we went to pizza hut - we were classy enough to tip the waiter.

Gateau · 04/02/2009 09:01

LEARN: typing error, not spelling mistake.

Fimbo · 04/02/2009 09:01

I spent more on a pair of shoes for my wedding, as I fiqured I would wear them more than a dress. 13 years later I do still wear the shoes on special occasions as they are of a classic design. The dress has never seen light of day again and is lying in the attic somewhere

edam · 04/02/2009 09:01

Custardo did spell correctly which is more than you've just done.

Gateau · 04/02/2009 09:03

Get yourself a dictionary edam. Repeat, UNWARRANTED.

TrillianAstra · 04/02/2009 09:05

Counter the point that was made, Gateau, don't just attack the spelling.

Gateau · 04/02/2009 09:06

I stand by my point; I don't care what you lot think.

TrillianAstra · 04/02/2009 09:07

And Custardo if people want clarification of something you've posted don't tell them to say pardon. You had a fair point which was slightly counteracted by being patronising.

Buda · 04/02/2009 09:07

No attacks please ladies!

Mamazon is not a troll. She is a regular MNer and a person just like the rest or us. And gorgeous to boot! (Bitch! )

She as was she being unreasonable. Given BHS's lousy reputation it is not an unreasonable question! She said herself that 'chav' was prob not the word she was after.

So either answer her query nicely as some have done (pointing out the sensibility of not spending a small fortune on a dress that will be worn once and also pointing out that nowadays it is possible to buy nice wedding dresses in places other than super-expensive 'boutiques') or click off the thread. Easy. No need for attacks.

troutpout · 04/02/2009 09:08

ya (of course)bu........ and you know it already i think

Anyway...more importantly...show us the dress so that we can judge

FlakyPenis · 04/02/2009 09:10

Good for her, I looked on the high street but couldn't find anything suitable at the time.

Got mine in Berketex Brides in the end for £599 (including fitting) but if those dresses had been around then (were they? didn't know BHS did wedding dresses) I would have bought one.

Got my bridesmaid dress in Debenhams and it was great.

(I got married in a 5 star hotel btw, does that make me a chav? )
