I think she is very sensible indeed. Why spend a hideous amount? ? It's barking. Especially when the chances are she won't stayed married forever, people rarely do.
Cynical or practical?

isn't that that how AIBU goes the deafening crescendo of 275 YABU apart from 3 YNBU

My Dress cost £110 and I Loved it. I could have spent alot more - I had a big budget if IF I had wanted to spend it. Instead we had a huge party and saved some for us to spend on our house.

mamazon - go look at her dress, I bet it looks good to the untrained eye and be nice about it - unless she looks like a pudding of course!

ScottishMummy · 04/02/2009 21:49

it is the brides prerogative to wear whatever she wants, regardless of whether vera wang or bhs

I think it would actually be a bit rude unkind to suggest she looks at "better" places first. Even if you don't say it directly, it would be clear that you think it's horrible and that she could do better. It's her day, she's a grown-up. Smile and do this for your nephews/nieces.

such is the power of the pro BHS crew, mamazon's flatlined.

I got my dress in Monsoon and it was lovely and I got loads of compliments. And my shoes were from Ebay (brand new though!)

If you didn't know where it was from you wouldn't have an issue. I once told a colleague that my shoes were Jimmy Choos and she totally believed me and told everyone and admired them all night. I later admitted they were £10 in the Schuh sale!

KingCanuteIAm · 04/02/2009 22:46

Probably in her bunker now with all the canned goods and dried milk!

TheSmallClanger · 04/02/2009 22:49

BHS is very good for childrens' underwear and utilitarian crockery. It has its place!

I've never been in the bridal department, but I do applaud anyone who opts out of the wedding industry's compulsion to over-spend. There's nothing wrong with finding what you want straight away either. She may just be a very canny shopper who got lucky first time.

beanieb · 04/02/2009 22:51

Maybe she's one of these people for whom the wedding is more important than the dress?

Perhaps BHS just happened to have a dress she liked. I spent £90 on a pattern on ebay so my mum can make mine for me. Total cost will be under £200 I recon but it's exactly what I wanted.
