of course it's none of my business and im sure i should just mind my own but, really? BHS?

Mamazon - I don't know why, but i always had you down as such a straight laced mnetter - but from a few of your threads of late - i can tell you are very naughty!!

LucyEllensmummy · 04/02/2009 07:40

now im not sure really, but i actually haven't seen a proper "chav" for ages. I think the fashion must have changed - i'll pop down to Chatham one day and update as i think turks description is out of date .

BHS wedding dress? I have to say, that would be the last place i would want to get one - unless the quality is 50 times better than the rest of the stuff they do. The only time I ever go into BHS is when i am caught short and their stuff is tacky, poorly made and just stuck in a time warp - this might be OK if you are 65 but not for your wedding surely? I'm not being snotty, but their stuff is shit and its not even cheap - i had them high on my administration bingo list, thats for sure. I am not married and cringe at the thought of an expensive wedding dress - but BHS? If it were ME getting married i think i would trawl the charity shops - there are a couple round here that always have the most beautiful dresses in them, real classics, they charge a fair price for them but at least the money goes to charidy mate.

I got married in October in a BHS dress. Cheers. Thought I was getting married because I loved DH.

Lizzylou · 04/02/2009 07:47

Is that the dress on your profile?
You looked bloody gorgeous, lovely colour on you.

Stretch · 04/02/2009 07:54

Thank you Lizzylou.

Qually and Girly, my wedding dress was from Monsoon too! Good choice!

I think it's v sensible not to get sucked into that "must spend £3K on a dress and £30K on the wedding or it won't be special enough" thing. The point of getting married is actually being married, not the wedding day itself.

So yes, I'm afraid YABU!

mumoverseas · 04/02/2009 07:59

Stretch, YOU DID get married because you loved DH!
I just had to look at your dress too and lizzylou is right it is gorgeous but I now hate you as you are sooooo slim after 3 children not fair!

YABU.

The loveliest bride I've ever seen wore a New Look top and skirt.

It's all silly and very mean of you to call her chavvy because she's got a modicum of common sense.

Stretch · 04/02/2009 08:05

Lol Riven, that was my way of thinking. DH was lucky to get me into a dress in the first place!

ssd · 04/02/2009 08:11

good on your SIL

in a few years you'll be wondering why you're in so much debt when your SIL manages on the same money

(realise I'm speculating wildly but trying to show you your SIL is being sensible with money especially in these times)

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 04/02/2009 08:16

YABU - the dresses from BHS are lovely. My bridesmaid dresses were from BHS and so many people commented on how beautiful they were.

Who cares how much the dress cost. If it makes her feel $1,000,000 then it's worth the money!

LucyEllensmummy · 04/02/2009 08:21

LEM looks at stretch's profile and eats her words!! That dress IS beautiful, I can so understand why you bought it. - can you tell ive always been the bridesmaid....The bridesmaids look stunning too.

Perhaps heir range of wedding dresses is better than their general stuff because I for one am gobsmacked.

LucyEllensmummy · 04/02/2009 08:22

Riven did you really??? Go girl!!!!

my wedding dress was from evans in the bridesmaid section! Cost me £62, and the shoes were a fiver!
My sister spent £1985 getting her dress made for her and whilst it was beautiful after the day she did relise it was alot of money for one day!

Stretch · 04/02/2009 08:27

Oh, don't get me wrong. They weren't the best quality in the world. My MIL does dress altering and stuff and said it wasn't great inside. But the dress is only for one day. I won't be wearing it again and no one could tell.

IMO, the dresses from Monsoon where really nice, much better quality. The only problem for me was that they were all white, and I wanted colour!

stickybeaker · 04/02/2009 08:27

You snob. What a nasty spiteful post. What business is it of yours anyway?

Would it be better if she runs up horrible debts in the midst of a credit crunch just to suit your taste?

morningpaper · 04/02/2009 08:29

mine was £31 quid from Ebay

v. sensible

LoveMyLapTop · 04/02/2009 08:31

YABU
BHS do some lovley wedding dresses, giving those who dont have a lot of spare cash to look fabulous on their big day.
What a mean spirited thread.
I bought my flower girls dress from there and it was fabulous.

Stretch · 04/02/2009 08:32

Morningpaper Did you get it from that asapbuy type place?

Mamazon - are you on the soup or something? You're being all weird. What with the moldies and now this, Mumsnet is just like the plot of 'Heroes' these days, no idea who the goodies and the baddies are....

I got married in a frock I'd bought on a whim the day before for £47 (had to get the florist to change all the bouquets last minute).

Mind you I did spend more than £100 on the big-pants-hold-everything-in-figleaf thing that I wore underneath . God I was a hot sexy minx that night trying to take it off after one too many bellinis.

4andnotout · 04/02/2009 08:35

YABU
I think that she isn't wasting £'s on a designer dress which will be worn once should be applauded not at!
When i get married i will be doing it for as cheap as possible!
