I hestitate to post this as it reveals my innner numptie, but hey;

I had never been anywhere near an internet forum before mumsnet and when it said 'nickname' I thought it was a genunine question along the lines of 'mother's maiden name' and put in my childhood nickname...

So, what you should be getting from my name, is my shape at 18months.

And the fact you can be in your 30s and have moments of great idiocy.

And the fact I cant be bothered to find out how to name change.

And the fact that sleep deprivation can lead you to overshare.

Podrick · 11/01/2009 08:09

you're still pretty cute now, Cathpot

AnneOfAvonlea · 11/01/2009 08:09

@ Cathpot.

scifinerd · 11/01/2009 08:10

Tell us more OP I am intrigued

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/01/2009 08:33

I hope not...I am actually rather shy and unassuming in real life, honestly!

HelenBurns · 11/01/2009 08:35

Lolol at Cathpot!!!

That has made my day. You have truly shared, you are now one of us...

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/01/2009 08:46

I guess if you have read any Tales of the City books or seen the TV adaption where Mary Ann is played by the wonderful Laura Linney you'd have a picture of me - she starts out nice and sweet but gets more ambitious and harder through the books...I'd like to think I was quite sweet but I am not as driven as she becomes...she is funny too which is something I hope I am !

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/01/2009 08:46

btw HelenBurns, where is your name from... it rings bells

HelenBurns · 11/01/2009 08:48

Hi MaryAnn, it's my Lowood guise, 'fog and fog-bred pestilence' kind of feels apt in the house of flight

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/01/2009 08:56

aah yes, I knew it was familiar...!

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 11/01/2009 08:58

I am not really a camel. I may have the hump on occasion.

My nickname shows the fact I have a complete lack of imagination.

ABloke · 11/01/2009 09:05

Ummmm.....

No. NUANBU

BUT

oh never mind

ABloke · 11/01/2009 09:06

I ama dude btw. You may find my name baffling.

Brian, pleased to type to you.

lavenderbongo · 11/01/2009 09:09

Like to know what you think I look like

beanieb · 11/01/2009 09:09

mine is from a childhood nickname too. I spell it differently in real life but if I used the spelling I usually do it might be pretty obvious to people from other forums who I am and hopefully none of them know about my mumsnet membership or the fact that I am trying for a baby.

Gorionine · 11/01/2009 09:09

I agree with you OP. the nickname is sort of what we "know first" of the poster and does send a mental picture of the person (can also IMO be an indication of sense of humour). When I first joined It was at a moment where I was so "not having it" I nicknamed myself "onthewarpath" OMG am I glad to have changed because now it makes my skin crowl!

I am sometimes quite desapointed by the profiles as they are very often very inaccurate. I do not see the point in making a "fake" profile available when you could just make your real one private. It does not help when you are given an advice on a major child issue by "a spotty teenager" or "noisy school boy", according to their profile. But that might be just me...

siriusmew · 11/01/2009 11:07

I always wonder about nicknames and meet-ups. Does everyone call each other by nicknames? And could you guess who was who without seeing profiles before hand and just hearing the person speak?

Lauriefairycake · 11/01/2009 11:09

is it unreasonable to ask the OP what she thinks I look like from my nickname

backalleysally · 11/01/2009 11:14

I am not called Sally.

And I do not hang around in back alleys (hooker!)

WorzselMummage · 11/01/2009 11:18

In RL most of my friends call me Worz

It's been my nickname for years... i even have a T-Shirt with it on.

savoycabbage · 11/01/2009 11:25

ROFL at Cathpot Fabulous.

LoveBeingAMummy · 11/01/2009 11:26

OK am not going to answer the what do you think i look like questions as I am a coward however I did take a look at your profiles to see if you had any pictures to see if I would be surprised or not and you don't have any. But I will ask what do you think I look like?

Had no idea some people make up fake profiles - blimey.

Have been on a meet up, was not very nice to have to go around an soft play play trying to find who I thought I was looking for, and ended up ahving to say "this is going to sound a little odd but..." to a couple of women luckily it was the right ones. PLus you kind of have to remember two sets of names for everyone.

This mainly came to mind after reading a few posts where I thought I kind of got to know people a little then read another was and was quite surprised by what they were saying. Just goes to show I am on here far too often now i have a lap top
