To think that a party for 3 children is a step too far ?

Am a bit peeved because my DD aged 4 is in a nice little group with three other girls and has today received an invite from all three to a joint party for all three of them.

Am seriously considering sending just a card.

Why not??? I can't see a problem. Why would you send one card though. They've all got to have a birthday at some point haven't they?

KatieDD · 17/12/2008 20:11

One card each, am not spending £30 a presents in January.

You are.

KatieDD · 17/12/2008 20:12

Well I disagree, I think it's tight.

limit to a fiver per child, as most of us do,
or less of you want. there's no need to spend ten pounds per person.

SparklyBaubleFeast · 17/12/2008 20:13

are there 4 people in the actual party?
so three have a birthday in january?

prettybutterfly · 17/12/2008 20:13

Yabu!

troutsprout · 17/12/2008 20:14

It isn't their fault when they were born.
If you really can't afford £30 then spend slightly less. I'm sure they would just be happy that your girl can come and won't be counting the cost of what you have spent.

Ohforfoxsake · 17/12/2008 20:15

Send nice presents. Then you can complain you didn't get your moneys worth.

KatieDD · 17/12/2008 20:15

No I'd imagine the whole class is invited and the three are hosting it.

I hate buying tat for the sake of just taking something to a party, I like to buy a decent present.

and i am sure theywill each buy each other a gift as well?

jalopy · 17/12/2008 20:16

Can't see a problem.

KatieDD · 17/12/2008 20:16

I think they'd be getting their money's worth fox not the other way around

It is a tricky one, I know mums who think its being 'tight' to do joint parties, 2 presents/cards for sharing the cost of a party. For 3, it does seem even more 'tight' ! However, I have come to love joint parties as it is just one event on the calender, not two/three! Phew!

BexieID · 17/12/2008 20:16

Buy them something in the sales. Theres alot of bargains to be had now as well. Would you feel the same if they all had seperate parties?

TotalChaos · 17/12/2008 20:17

YABU. You can get perfectly decent books for less than a £10 per child.

MerryChristmasPANDAGHappy09 · 17/12/2008 20:17

not tight, sensible if their birthdays are around the same. If they had had 3 separate parties you may have ended driving from one party to another with a child who became partied out, and buying 3 presents for the separate parties.

I did a joint party for DD the last couple of years. the other mum and I got together and wrote something on the invite like 'if you were thinking of buying a present, please only buy one for X', splitting the invites half to each birthday girl, if the invitation was from both birthday girls. we also invited some children from just one ofthe birthday girls, and did not explain it was a joint party, wanting to avoid invitee feeling obliged to buy 2 presents.

Ohforfoxsake · 17/12/2008 20:18

Books are always a decent present. The Book People do good deals.

ScottishMummy · 17/12/2008 20:18

a nice wee close group sounds ideal.make some cakes or little gift bag.3 cards for the 3 individuals, they aren't a homogeneous mass, anyway 1 card 3 children that will end in tears (who gets to keep it etc)

troutsprout · 17/12/2008 20:18

..or even a lot less...£10 pound a child is quite a lot.I'm sure you could save a bit. You may even pick up a real bargain in the sales...some thing worth 8-10 pounds for 4-5 maybe.

daftpunk · 17/12/2008 20:18

yanbu...3 is too much.

fruitful · 17/12/2008 20:18

You seem to be viewing this as a financial transaction. One birthday party invitation in exchange for one present.

Whereas actually, it is some children having a party. And children giving and receiving presents on their birthdays.

BexieID · 17/12/2008 20:19

Oh, I see it's moneys worth. Maybe they all got together so that they didn't double book the party? Where is the party to be held?

spicemonster · 17/12/2008 20:19

Why would you want to take your DD to 3 separate parties?!

I didn't realise presents were a reward for how much the party cost
