This

My mum wants that for christmas and has asked me for it but I think it's tacky but I hate Playboy stuff. I know it's her choice and she's hardly old or nothing but I just think that's most suitable for a teenager or something.

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this but I don't mean to come across so preachy. She is young looking and very young at heart but still...playboy...seriously?

It's a bit tacky

Lauriefairycake · 07/11/2008 12:07

I wouldn't buy anyone Playboy anything (far too principled for that)

so never mind the age or the fact she's your mum just please don't buy Playboy stuff - tacky, tacky, tacky (and lots of proper feminist reasons too)

tis tacky...

TotalChaos · 07/11/2008 12:08

Oh it's not that bad, let her have it.

Cies · 07/11/2008 12:08

I don't agree with Playboy - I hate the way it objectifies women and sees them as playthings and only there to please men. As such, I wouldn't buy anything from that brand.

So, YANBU to not buy it, but not because it's too young for a 39yo, but because of its inherant sexism.

harleyd · 07/11/2008 12:09

its nasty

I'll be 39 by christmas, and I wouldn't thank you for it, but if its what she wants....

more · 07/11/2008 12:10

Hope you are not saying that 39 is old .

Get it for her if that is what she wants, and be happy that it is not that expensive.

zippitippitoes · 07/11/2008 12:11

well it is yuk for any age lol

cheesesarnie · 07/11/2008 12:12

your mum is 39?blimey!i dont like the bracelet but if your mum likes it thats fine isnt it?shes not to old for a bit of bling.im 30 im now scared people may tell me to chill(not that i wear playboy)if i wear something sparkly in a few years time.

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 12:12

I did say that's not how I meant it I know 39 is young I did say...

But I hate hate hate Playboy and that is just ugly.

The reason I say she's 39 is because Playboy seems to be (wrongly) marketted at younger girls as in teenagers. Maybe I am wrong about that but just my opinion.

Littleladyloulou · 07/11/2008 12:12

Weeeell, I can see why you wouldn't want to buy it for your mum - and 39 is, after all, ancient

Perhaps she just wants a pretty charm bracelet more than it having to be Playboy/have a bunny on it?

if so there are lots of similar non-Playboy ones, you could tell her they sold out of the Playboy ones

if it's because she loves Playboy stuff then at least it's just a charm bracelet, I would worry more if she wanted the bedding/curtains/towels/rugs/lightshades/dressing gown... count ya blessings!!! Plus you could always snap the bunny charm off on Boxing Day (evil grin)...

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 12:13

It's not because it's sparkly cheese it's because it's downright ugly...

I'm 21 and would never wear that, it's disgusting! Very cheap and tacky, I would not buy that for my Mum regardless of how young she looks/feels.

more · 07/11/2008 12:15

You could just give her Argos vouchers instead, that way you would technically have bought it for her but officially wouldn't.

Bathsheba · 07/11/2008 12:15

I'd buy her another charm bracelet but not that one...Avon have one at the moment which I think is lovely and really good value...

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 12:16

Lol at Loulou no I'm afraid to say she wants it because it's Playboy the worst oart is...

she has a pair of Playboy trainers they are smart though but still, Pj's and a blardy annoying hangy air freshener thing for her car slightly concerned maybe will just buy a nice charm bracelet and say twas out of stock

OP posts:
Littleladyloulou · 07/11/2008 12:16

Why not show her this

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2234881/Trail/searchtext>CHARM+BRACELET.htm

then you can choose another charm or two to go on it as well!!

PS - how do you do make links appear as "here" or whatever you have called it yourself, instead of the whole www. address??

ImaburningHEIFERgy · 07/11/2008 12:16

tis naffola at any age IMO. Although I agree with those that say well is she likes it then that is all that matters, but I have never ever been able to buy a present for someone that I don't like! just can't do it.. There must be something else that she would like that you would be happy to buy for her.

Ask her for a list of things and pick one to your taste, price range.

Any agree with others 39 is not old (neither is 40)...

more · 07/11/2008 12:19

Just because you don't like something does not mean that she can't like it. Would you rather get her something that she will like or something that she doesn't.
Do you want her to get you something that you like or something that she likes?

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 12:19

LouLou

put your link, then add at the start and at the end.

If you want to call it something else then leave a space after the last part of link but before the end ]] and just type whatever then add ]].

Sounds very confusing am not great at explaining

OP posts:
more · 07/11/2008 12:20

Littleladyloulou it explains it to you right next to the box where you type your message.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by and . So if you type www.mumsnet.com, the link will display as www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at this page", would display "Look at this page".
