This

My mum wants that for christmas and has asked me for it but I think it's tacky but I hate Playboy stuff. I know it's her choice and she's hardly old or nothing but I just think that's most suitable for a teenager or something.

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this but I don't mean to come across so preachy. She is young looking and very young at heart but still...playboy...seriously?

It is tacky and dubious and I would not have worn it at 21 let alone now at 35 but the good thing about being this age is knowing your own mind and knowing what you like so if you want to make her happy you know what to buy!

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 13:10

Yeah This is my mum

mamadiva...had to look how old/young you are...and I keep forgetting that I am, theoretically, now old enough to have a over 20 year old child....
as it stands, my oldest is only 12 phew...

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 13:13

I am 22 I know it's a bit starnge I have to admit but I think their are lots of young mums on here I keep forgetting everyone is probably older than me... doesn't matter though I have learnt alot from you lot... well maybe not on this thread but when I needed it [soppy emoticon]

J2O · 07/11/2008 13:29

I don't think its too bad, do you think she's just had a look through for something she quite fancies for christmas that doesn't cost too much for you to get her?

wonderwoman73 · 07/11/2008 13:31

Don't not buy it cos your mum's 39, just don't buy it cos it's vile!

And mamadiva - how lovely to be a young mum, I wish I'd had my baby when I was younger but it took me years to meet a half decent man...

piratecat · 07/11/2008 13:35

boo hoo i don't want to be old enough to have a 20 yr old child.

i feel like one, but i don't bloody look like one anymore.

as for the playboy, its not nice really, but if she really likes it then maybe you cuold get it?

mamadiva · 07/11/2008 13:35

ROFL wonderwoman I've been with DP for 7 and a half years (was 14) the joys of school eh.

J20 I'm hoping thats not why. Am going to go into town and have a look in jewelers to see if I can find somtething nice if not will give her money and she can spend it on whatever. Have made her a load of CD';s full of her favourite songs and one of songs that we used to sing along to with our hairbrushes when I was little and it was just the two of us Have thye shoop shop song in my head LOL ah the memories

your mum is 39? I am 39 next year and I don't feel as old as you are making your mum sound!

I don't like the bracelet and if you have real moral objections to Playboy you don't have to buy it.

J2O · 07/11/2008 13:47

ah thats nice re the CDs

what about a MUM ring? I think you can get get 9 carat gold ones for less than one the playboy thing costs

Shoshe · 07/11/2008 19:25

We have a tradition in our family, that at birth all little girls are given a charm bracelet, with a birth charm on it, then for each birthday and special event, another is added, fine was wonderful and each charm meant something, but a few years before I met DH it was stolen by a lodger I had.

DH started a new one for me on our wedding day, and it has lots on it now.

DGD has one, and we started one for DDIL on her wedding day.

We just buy a plain gold or silver chain bracelet and buy the charms from all over the place, some have come from visits abroad, some from flea markets some from jewellery shops.

Maybe you could start something like that?

pamelat · 07/11/2008 19:45

I dont like the bracelet and Playboy is nasty but its harmless, I would buy it her.

I like charm bracelets - if buying that one will make you uncomfortable then why not buy a similar one with different charms?

thegreatescape · 07/11/2008 19:56

My mum is 55 and i am now thinking of getting her this for christmas just to see the baffled look on her face on christmas day!

LemonyAle · 07/11/2008 20:08

I don't like Playboy stuff on principle (particularly as OP has pointed out - it seems to be marketed at young girls - wtf?!?)

Nothing wrong with charm bracelets per se though - Shoshe's family tradition sounds lovely, and I got my sister a beautiful customised charm bracelet (similar to this one) from this website. Bit pricey (a few family members clubbed together) but handmade and totally worth it - it's pretty much the only piece of jewellery she wears.
