It looks ridiculous.
and not cooky or cute or fun.

Hesitate to use the word 'should' (for fear of being seen as judgey ), but in general, yes I totally agree.

2point4kids · 24/10/2008 15:05

with the exception of sarah jane off higgledy house of course

muggglewump · 24/10/2008 15:05

YANBU.
I also find ponytails in anyone over 30 ridiculous. I think I may be alone on that one though.

roseability · 24/10/2008 15:06

Great thread!

LOL

lazarou · 24/10/2008 15:06

What about Whigfield?

beansmum · 24/10/2008 15:06

hmm I don't know. If they are low down and not tied with ribbons or anything pink or fluffy I think they can look alright. Not on me, I look stoopid, but some people suit them.

I saw a woman today in her mid 30s driving along with her kids in the car, dressed ver sensibly but with very stupid hair.
I could see her bunches poking out each side of her head rest, i was mesmerised.

I also hate little girl hair ornaments on adult women too. There was a fashion a few years ago for teeny weeny little hairslides in candy colours and Hello Kitty type stuff. DD was just starting school - I was amazed at how easy it was to buy suitable hairstuff for her

Paedophile chic.

PuzzleRocks · 24/10/2008 15:09

Nonsense, I wore pigtail plaits until I was 26. May do again (30) if my hair is ever long enough.
(Wistfully remembers looking, kooky, cute, and fun).

puppydavies · 24/10/2008 15:11

yes you are a fogey :P

DoubleBluff · 24/10/2008 15:11

The only time they might look OK is if you are some sort of street entertainer or similar!

Rubbish!

Some days I wear my curly and insane hair in plaits, and occasionally when it is straightened I wear it in bunches. I am 26.

And I am viewing those of you who have said yes as Judgey McTurnupnoses!

gladbag · 24/10/2008 15:20

Are we allowed to on holiday then? Or never ever?

I wear low bunches on holiday, and I'm way way over 21. When it's very hot, and shoulder length hair feels sweaty, low bunches are the way to go because you can wear a sunhat over the top of them, and lie back on a sunlounger without a ponytail or beret thing hurting your head. That's my argument. I'm sticking to it.

Am I ostracised now?

WorzselMummage · 24/10/2008 15:23

I am 28 and still wear my hair in bunches occasionally, they are very short bunches though, i wouldnt wear longer ones.

I do dress quite young generally though and look younger then i am.

Some women look old at 28, if i was one of them i wouldnt do it.

gladbag · 24/10/2008 15:24

And by beret, I of course mean berrette/clippy claspy thing to hold up twisted hair at the back, not a flat woollen french hat - they are no good for sunbathing.

MrsMattie · 24/10/2008 15:25

I think some women get away with it.

op, 21 is way too generous..... think 15 should be the cut off.

misshardbroom · 24/10/2008 15:34

if there's any grey there, then it's a HUGE no-no.

FfreckleFface · 24/10/2008 15:35

I am one of those women, MrsMattie. My nose full of freckles helps, to be fair.

childrenofthecornsilk · 24/10/2008 15:36

No-one gets away with it. Really. It's like wearing short skirts past 30.

FfreckleFface · 24/10/2008 15:36

And I have already told Bloke that as soon as little Ff's hair is long enough for bunches, I will stop.
