To think women over the age of 21 should not wear their hair in bunches?

It looks ridiculous.
and not cooky or cute or fun.

To backtrak a little, I do think you can sort of getaaway with bunches if you are a very out landish dresser.
It looks good on those bright red/ purple hair / pierced nose types.

But on mundane types just a bit odd bordering on St Trinians.

like this?

SmallShips · 24/10/2008 19:36

It doesnt suit many people.

I'd look about 12 if i wore bunches.

AbbeyA · 24/10/2008 19:36

I don't think it matters-there is nothing more depressing than being told you are too old to do something-a little eccentricity is more endearing!

serenity · 24/10/2008 19:38

I have bright red/black hair and have a pierced nose, but look (more ) odd with bunches. Wear two plaits occasionally though - usually if I have to go out with wet hair.

Wear them if they suit you, don't if they don't, age is irrelevant. Dress for yourself.

ScottishMummy · 24/10/2008 19:51

hell no,dont wont women having choices abouttheir own appearance getting high flooutin

let a bossy boots on mn tell em how it is instead.

step up DiubleBluff, share more style faux pas with us

pamelat · 24/10/2008 19:56

Oh I'm 30 and always wear my hair in a pony tail (to be lazy!!), oooopps

Never bunches though, would feel that I was dressed up as school girl for some porn type film.

hammouhouseofhorror · 24/10/2008 20:01

I'm 39. short elvin hairstyle so no bunches (would if I wanted too). I wear short skirts. Pierced nose, belly button and four tattoes, and my 10 year old style conscious Ds thinks I am gorgeous and cool so that will do for me.
( not quite as gorgeous as ScottishMummy though!.)

ScottishMummy · 24/10/2008 20:22

I think I am in love SM...

Smellen · 24/10/2008 20:30

What does it matter how you wear your hair and at what age? Whether you look good or daft, it's your own business.

I thought that whole point of post-modernist style was that you could wear "little girl hair ornaments" with a bit of irony. I am far more worried when I see little girls wearing t-shirts with "boy toy" type slogans.

ScottishMummy · 24/10/2008 20:32

ach naw ah'm winching this fine man shug the thug

hazeyjane · 24/10/2008 20:46

Oh dear, I have got my hair in bunches in a photo on my profile, its pretty difficult to look kooky, cut or fun, when 41 weeks pregnant!

I just find it quite an easy thing to do with my hair.

raspberrytart · 24/10/2008 21:00

My best mate wears bunches -and a silly hat and she's 42.

frazzledali · 24/10/2008 21:01

ah crap, I've got dyed red hair too, I guess I'm doomed. Oh well. At least I'm alive, haha!

Vulgar · 26/10/2008 13:05

There's a mum(30's) near me who wears her hair in small bunches but I'm more transfixed by her shoes.

They are brightly coloured platform lace ups worn with ankle socks. They look bloody ridiculous IMO.

think The Tweenies and you will be thinking along the right lines.

bunches can look cool sometimes.

wabbit · 26/10/2008 13:08

If my hair was long enough now I'd probably wear pigtails (bunches) not sticking out side of head but bunched low behind ears...

did this right up to about a year ago... then cropped hair

didn't look a freak

am 39 btw

so Poo!

bodycolder · 26/10/2008 15:15

omg I am 43 and sometimes do if dressing down and wearing jeans converse etc. Also wear short skirts footless tights skinny jeans the odd hair slide beret You lot would have a field day but then again I wouldn't give a tbh.

InNeedOfSleep · 26/10/2008 15:22

I am disapointed at the prejudice in these messages why is it so wrong for people to wear funny stuff in their hair? I still do and am 31 but I do have the excuse of working in primary education (but KS2) Don't you think society puts enought pressure on women to conform to certain norms as regards appearance? I say balls to that, wear what you like gals!

by the way, sorry about lack of acronyms (!) I am v new to Mumsnet

solidgoldskullonastick · 26/10/2008 15:22

Well, you know, you could be a sad cow who wears beige/boden and does her hair in a way that no one will actually notice, makeing sure that everything about her says, don't look at me, I am a mindless unimportant herd animal who has to be told which orifice to shit out of as well as how to dress myself in the morning. I must Look Like Other People. I have no personality.

Or you could just wear what you like and not give a toss about what any morons think.

bodycolder · 26/10/2008 15:25

the thing is when i have worn pigtails occasionally no one inc dp ds friends etc have ever commented or been shocked etc so not sure if the OP is v suburban or just a bit judgey.

PuzzleRocks · 26/10/2008 15:26

Excellent post SolidGold. God we could all use some colour at the moment.

Jbck · 26/10/2008 15:32

Had I not been wearing my hair in pigtails the day I met DH he might not have married me I was a little north of 21 too so sue me.
