lol threadie - that's exactly who I'm modelling myself on for this thread.

Swedes, I don't know anyone in middle management who can't drive. I thought middle management were practically defined by attachment to their cars.

I can only think of three men of my acquaintance who don't drive and they are all artists of one kind or another as it happens. I don't fancy any of them but it has nothing to do with their unwillingness to drive.

Swedes · 06/10/2008 10:59

Iorek - "I don't fancy any of them ...." Is it because they are minging?

CarWreckByrnison · 06/10/2008 11:07

No I just don't like artists.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 06/10/2008 11:15

Good grief is this thing still going

CarWreckByrnison · 06/10/2008 11:21

In a romantic way I mean. I don't dislike them in general of course. But this is all beside the point. Middle Management Martin is far more likely to be crawling up the M42 in his horrible car with his horrible suit hanging in the back than taking the train like a civilised person.

Swedes · 06/10/2008 11:33

Please describe his suit?

CarWreckByrnison · 06/10/2008 11:34

Swedes, you know perfectly well what type of suit it is.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 06/10/2008 12:24

LOL - this thread has gone from strength to strength.

I just went to the supermarket- it took an hour instead of two.

I am making up for it later by buying my meat from the butchers that has just opened at the end of my road. Bucking a national trend which has kept anxious Sunday broadsheet readers occupied for some time. Meat is all free range, too.

Are we all agreed, at least, that amongst a plethora of excellent Halloween names, Threadie Krueger is outstanding?

CarWreckByrnison · 06/10/2008 12:32

Yes to Threadie Krueger!

ThreadieKrueger · 06/10/2008 12:38

Why thank you. I would have gone with ShaunOfTheThread again, but alas my deregistrations would require me to spell it wrongly.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 06/10/2008 12:59

May I offer UQD UnquietDead? Or perhaps that's an old one.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 06/10/2008 13:09

soerry uqd what a dumbkopf I am - that's where you got your bleedin name in the first place.

Nighbynight · 06/10/2008 13:24

the terrible threat of the dss growing up to be like Jeremy Clarkson is almost enough to make me agree with UQD. the man who didnt see the point of the 2CV, because its got a small engine! Purleeeease.

one of the few things I liked about ex h, was that he could drive small cars without feeling inadequate.

UnquietDad · 06/10/2008 13:48

onebat - indeed!!

So how "arty" and non-suity does one's job need to be for one's non-driving not to be unsexy?... (Too many negatives in there.)

Cammelia · 06/10/2008 14:06

"one of the few things I liked about ex h, was that he could drive small cars without feeling inadequate."

PMSL

Nominate that for Quote of the Week

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 14:56

UQD - It's more complex than that. Middle Management Martin could have an arty job. An artistc person might easily have a job that requires him to wear a suit.

MiddleManagementMartin · 06/10/2008 15:52

I was on Watercolour Challenge actually.

UnquietDad · 06/10/2008 16:02

I was using "suity" in the metonymic sense.

And it's Lucian Freud. Haven't you got your free Grauniad Style Guide?

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 16:08

Apologies for Lucian geffe.

MiddleManagementMartin · 06/10/2008 16:12

I got a metonymic suit from Burtons. I'll never need a trouser press again.

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 16:15

UQD - We must already know that the objects are related, if the metonymy is to be understood. Metaphor creates the relation between its objects, while metonymy presupposes that relation.

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 16:17

MMM is the suit Teflon coated?

MiddleManagementMartin · 06/10/2008 16:27

Yes. Apparently they use NASA technology. It's brilliant. I've just driven 400 miles to a conference in Ashby-de-la-Zouch and there's not a crease on it.

Elasticwoman · 06/10/2008 16:30

So is UnquietDead a popular beat combo (m'lud)?

And btw, can any one tell me why I shuddered when dd2 came home and said they had heard a Christian rock band at school today? I am a Christian, but find the idea of a religious denomination of rock band faintly nauseous. It is a girl band and they are going to talk to dd's R E class next week. How would you react?

SwedeLantern · 06/10/2008 16:31

Oh but have you got a crackling crotch, crease-free of course?
