"reliant on a tin box with wheels burning fossil fuels to get you anywhere", will it?

LOL. What do you think public transport runs on? Thin air?

Honestly, UQD, there is a teeny weeny bit of space between not being able to drive and being being a kind of car-obsessed speedfreak. No one on this thread has said that driving like a willy-waving-wanker is attractive.

Cappuccino · 05/10/2008 20:38

god I saw such a hunk in the Ikea carpark on Saturday

young, single, nice car, big shoulders, with his arm over the headrest as he reversed into a parent and child space

made me weak at the knees so it did

Cammelia · 05/10/2008 20:47

Oh UQD, you're going to have to get over it

Or...learn to drive

I must confess dh's ability to drive us around competently around America or rural France or Castillian Spain or on the French Route du Soleil 6-lane motorways does make me feel admiration.

I'm not saying women can't do it, but its fab not having to.

Sometimes, UQD, there are no alternatives

onebatmother · 05/10/2008 21:38

I think UQD can drive - he pointed out that he hadn't revealed his own status a while ago.

He's just polishing his halo principles.

Pan · 05/10/2008 21:48

FSS!! We are all still here!!

Am siding largely with UQD, though less-florridly thought out.

Like Capp's image.

Yes it is all a bit lower-brain stuff for the girlies, but that seems to be what hey like, non?

UnquietDad · 05/10/2008 21:54

ms sparkle --> goes this way ->

Cammelia · 05/10/2008 21:57

She's right though UQD

GodzillasBumcheek · 05/10/2008 21:57

And where will 'all you lot wot rely on cars' be when the War of The Worlds happens, and all the cars stop working, eh?

UnquietDad · 05/10/2008 22:05

Yes, she's right, but I don't pontifi-fickin-cate about my "independence"...

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 22:15

Has nobody mentioned this yet ...

The machine of a dream
Such a clean machine
With the pistons a pumpin
And the hub caps all gleam

When Im holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When my hands on your grease gun
Oh its like a disease son

Im in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar
Such a thrill when your radials squeal

Told my girl Ill have to forget her
Rather buy me a new carburetor
So she made tracks sayin
This is the end now
Cars dont talk back
Theyre just four wheeled friends now

When Im holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When Im cruisin in overdrive
Dont have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive

Im in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Im in love with my car
String back gloves in my automolove

... from Queen's A Night At the Opera, as any fule middle aged fogey kno

Cammelia · 05/10/2008 22:16

You've just reminded me why I hate Queen

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 22:20

... but I think it does say something about the relationship between some (not all, before anyone berates me) and their cars. Whether that sort of man is attractive is then another matter.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 22:20

...between some men and their cars.

UnquietDad · 05/10/2008 22:52

Worst track on a v good album... Roger Taylor, I believe, was reponsible for that...

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 22:58

Yes on all points, UQD ....

Pan · 05/10/2008 23:12

No...bring back Leroy Brown was/is utter shoite.

UnquietDad · 05/10/2008 23:15

I'd forgotten that one, Pan. So bad I'd erased it from my memory!

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 23:17

Maybe, but that was a different album so I think UQD's judgement on I'm In Love With My Car still stands.

Pan · 05/10/2008 23:20

no, same album - I bought it the day it was released! Sheer Heart Attack......

Quattrocento · 05/10/2008 23:24

Re the sexiness of men who drive versus the unsexiness of men who can't/don't

I do remember being stranded in heavy heavy snow, not able to drive my car any further, leaving it at the side of the road with everyone else's, and wondering how I was going to walk 15 miles home in office clothes, impractical heels, sheer tights and no bleeding overcoat (I am not ditzy, they didn't forecast it, OKAY) when ...

along came my 6'4" marvellous boyfriend with a big throbbing car that worked in snow with chains and everything and rescued me. Handled all the skids with aplomb ...

Is it any wonder I married him?

UnquietDad · 05/10/2008 23:26

Pan, hate to disagree but "I'm In Love With My Car" is on "A Night at the Opera"...

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 05/10/2008 23:28

Pan - My credentials as a 70s music geek are flimsy but we are talking about two different albums. IILWMC was on A Night At The Opera. Leroy Brown may well be the worst track on Sheer Heart Attack, but which is the worst in a contest betwen the two songs is another question altogther!

Bismillah!
