this woman, i am supposed to work with has barly been there in 6 years!

don't you think it's a bit out of order from the same employer to have to cover all that for 1 person?

are we all fighting now?

conniedescending · 21/09/2008 21:49

I've had 4 maternity leaves from the same employer

plan on taking another, maybe another 2

Quattrocento · 21/09/2008 21:51

I agree that employers should provide extra cover but many many don't. This unpalatable fact is what makes this statement incorrect

"If employers are not providing adequate cover for maternity leave it is THEIR problem."

But it isn't - frequently it becomes the problem of other employees.

Kewcumber · 21/09/2008 21:51

statutory maternity pay is 90% of full pay for first 6 weeks then £100 odd oer week after that about 90% of which is reclaimable from Govt so her maternity leave is costing your employers roughly £10 a week.

If you have covered her job as well for nearly six years (according to you) for for free then why would your employer arrange sensible cover? As an employers myself, I don't underestimate the hassle of maternity leave to small businesses. But if this story is true and you have put up with it, then you are a mug and a large part of the problme.

Wish you were all over on on this thread - the OP got a right old pasting.

But QC embittered co-workers are in no position to blame individual women exercising their rights are they?

ethanchristopher · 21/09/2008 21:53

OH MY GOD

okay, im not saying the woman is in the wrong! its her life she can have as many children as she wants e.t.c

but the employer ultimately loses out, if she is going to take however much payed maternity leave in 6 years then its hard on the empoyer but you know its a free country and everything.

why am i getting shouted at. and called stupid. im entitled to my own opinion, and tbh my opinion is the same as yours i'm just able to see both sides of the argument!!!

jeez

this company pay full sick pay so there is no money to patsomeone else, to cover her months of sick leave.

OP posts:
WilfSell · 21/09/2008 21:56

EC, but it is not, er, seeing both sides of the issue to peddle the idea that employers shouldn't employ women just because they might get pregnant. It is idiotic. And still illegal FWIW.

conniedescending · 21/09/2008 21:56

no, I feel fine thanks bodybag

LackaDAISYcal · 21/09/2008 21:57

bodybag...you have forgotten to mention the time she takes off for AN appointments...surely worth more of your rant?

bodybag · 21/09/2008 21:58

connie bet your coworkers/boss love you

OP posts:
ethanchristopher · 21/09/2008 21:59

erm no i wasnt saying that at all

what i was saying was i can see why employers might find it a bit unreasonable that they are expected to fund all this maternity leave over 6 years. this case only i dont disagree with maternity pay or anything

whatever, your obvviously not able to see anyone elses point of view

and also, aibu to think that men should be aloud paternity leave

whats your view on that?

MrsMattie · 21/09/2008 21:59

But if she is sick, what should she do? Leave her job?

Get real.

bodybag · 21/09/2008 22:01

ive already said go somewhere else and share the burden imo.

WilfSell · 21/09/2008 22:02

Are you bodybag too?

unknownrebelbang · 21/09/2008 22:02

I had three, all with the same (public sector) employee, then had the gall to take a 7 months career break.

Janos · 21/09/2008 22:02
