AIBU to smuggle bottles of water and Maltesers into the cinema tomorrow?

...rather than paying £400 for popcorn and cokes at the counter. Everyone smuggles right?

There is a big sign I noticed last time I went stating a zero tolerance for taking stuff in that you didn't buy there. I think they have a damn cheek and if their prices were at least reasonable not £3.40 for a popcorn I would buy it there.

No one's looking in my massive handbag without a fight but they seriously aren't going to ask me are they?

I am taking DS and his mates for this birthday treat, don't REALLY want to have to scuffle with the girl on the door!!!

I've always taken my own water and sweets to cinema and not had to 'smuggle' them in. I've never come across a cinema that doesn't allow it. Cineworld only seem to not allow hot food and alcohol.

huuskymam · 23/06/2022 07:17

There's a dealz next to our cinema. Very handy for the treats and then we buy drinks and popcorn in the cinema. Never a word said, and plenty do it. You can see the same people in dealz heading to the cinema.

Blueuggboots · 23/06/2022 07:18

I take outside food into cineworld all the time? And the odeon. Never been stopped.....I don't hide it either.

maddiemookins16mum · 23/06/2022 07:18

I get a takeaway coffee from the Coop across from our Cinema and a bag of Rolos or Nestle Munchies. I have never hidden it. £4, sorted.

Blueuggboots · 23/06/2022 07:19

No HOT food...

After the thread about pulling a sickie for 1 day... I'm surprised MN approves of this one!

I do this often though I would buy the popcorn if taking kids friends... sweets in cinema are too expensive my local poundland do a pick & mix.

I guess things were different 14 years ago when this thread was started!

newnamethanks · 23/06/2022 07:27

Bloody hell! I only go to the cinema occasionally and it's a little Everyman over the road where they don't police what you take in with you, nor do they start twisting your arm to buy a load of sugary tat as soon as you go in. Outrageous behaviour from those monstrous mega cinemas. Sod em, smuggle away, they won't go bankrupt.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/06/2022 07:29

I wonder what film the OP was going to see in 2008! And how old her DS is now! Wonder if he’s still scarred by that time his mum smuggled Maltese’s in Cineworld 😂

darisdet · 23/06/2022 07:31

Everyman is great isn't it, when I can get to one. Hot and cold drinks and food served at your seat!

Omg the cinema cops have finally caught up with OP just 14 years later and are digging up old threads to use in evidence against her.

😂

Sunshine1235 · 23/06/2022 07:50

This reminds me of how we used to try to sneak McDonald’s into the cinema as teenagers and always get caught (because you can smell it a mile away) and then have to stuff our faces really quickly before we could go in

BellePeppa · 23/06/2022 08:04

We stopped buying stuff at the cinema and brought in from outside. We’d pass Poundland and buy the same things there for a quarter of the price of the cinema. Their mark ups are so huge it just doesn’t make sense to buy inside the cinema. If you put your stuff discreetly in your bag they can’t stop you really can they.

Ho hum I forgot to look at the date of the OP again 😯

balalake · 23/06/2022 08:08

Is this a record for a resurrected thread? Though 14 years is not a Kate Bush length of time though.

dottiedodah · 23/06/2022 08:11

I always take my own sweeties! Bought a bag on ebay specially for this. Also theatre as well . Do sometimes bring drinks in too.never been stopped. 8

KatherineJaneway · 23/06/2022 08:16

@hellomynameisshark Why resurrect such an old thread?

Whatafustercluck · 23/06/2022 08:18

I thought everyone did this 😳

starfishmummy · 23/06/2022 08:23

I always take water bottles and snacks in, in my capacious handbag. But I haven't seen notices up at our cinema.

Apandemicyousay · 23/06/2022 08:23

I realised this was a zombie when a PP was referring to getting sweets from Woolies 😂

RustyShackleford3 · 23/06/2022 08:23

I always take in a full roast dinner with all the trimmings, complete with gravy (proper gravy, of course, not disgusting shite from a packet).

On a serious note - yes, I completely agree that if they want people to buy their snacks then they shouldn't sell them at such an outrageous mark up. I would actually prefer to buy a tub of lovely, fresh cinema popcorn than eat a packet of sweets, but I don't want to have to remortgage my house in order to do it.

emuloc · 23/06/2022 08:35

I always take my own snacks to the cinema. I refuse to pay their extortionate prices for popcorn/ ice cream/ drinks. A few years ago I got swayed by the hot dogs on the roller thingy. Big mistake I had a dodgy tum a few hours later. Never again 🌭😬

Moaningturtle1 · 23/06/2022 09:07

£3.40 for popcorn seems a bargain now, £4.99 in my local flicks last week. Oh for 2008 prices again.

Astrabees · 23/06/2022 09:08

Is there a Vue cimema near you? they don't mind you bringing in food.

picklemewalnuts · 23/06/2022 09:19

PeanutButterOnToad · 23/06/2022 04:40

I will buy choc tops ( Australia’s gift to cinema goers) at my local independent cinemas because they are yummy and reasonably priced and you only get them in cinemas, for everything else I am a smuggler.

I need to know what a choc top is! I think I'm missing out!

risetodaysun · 23/06/2022 09:24

Cappuccino · 12/09/2008 18:47

I take in miniature bottles of Prosecco and good chocolates

I end up spending less than I would buying cola and popcorn

I am not kidding

you can get it all from M&S

take a straw

Best idea ever !!
