AIBU to smuggle bottles of water and Maltesers into the cinema tomorrow?

...rather than paying £400 for popcorn and cokes at the counter. Everyone smuggles right?

There is a big sign I noticed last time I went stating a zero tolerance for taking stuff in that you didn't buy there. I think they have a damn cheek and if their prices were at least reasonable not £3.40 for a popcorn I would buy it there.

No one's looking in my massive handbag without a fight but they seriously aren't going to ask me are they?

I am taking DS and his mates for this birthday treat, don't REALLY want to have to scuffle with the girl on the door!!!

YANBU.

i take in popcorn, choccies and our own fizzy juice, usually.

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:50

Spag - at our cinema they CONFISCATE. Hundreds of sobbing kids. You'd have to fight me for it I tell you. No one takes my property off me without a FIGHT. Not really, I will smuggle and look guilty!

The high price of sweets keeps the ticket prices down?? Bloody hell, I'd hate to see what they'd charge for tickets if they ditched the popcorn

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/09/2008 18:51

Take a camping stove, some popcorn kernels and a good thick bottomed pan. Cook away, ideally just as the film begins.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2008 18:51

put stuff in your pockets, KB. or change cinemas. i wouldn't patronise a cinema that treats customers like criminals.

avenanap · 12/09/2008 18:52

There was an investigation by a news team into the prices they charge a few years ago. This was their excuse!

BouncingTurtle · 12/09/2008 18:52

I do it all the time.

YANBU.

Spagblog · 12/09/2008 18:53

Mmmm, Norwich is clearly far too laid back. Maybe you could stuff it all up your jumper and mould goodies into a pregnant belly shape?

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:53

Devil - ROFL good plan!!

Expat, thing is the next one is 10 miles away at Bluewater which is rammo on a Saturday.

I am happy to smuggle, just wondered what everyone else did.

I'm taking tic-tacs tomorrow.

They can easily be secreted about the person

Also the low quality of the sweets they sell in cinemas is an issue. It's not just the price, it's the fact that the smarties aren't even real smarties, the chocolate is low quality low % coco stuff...

muggglewump · 12/09/2008 18:54

Exactly Eyeballs.
Last time we went I believe it was about £8 each.
That was me checking the prices though. As I said, we only go to the kids club so paid £280 I think for DD and I got in free

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:54

And I just read your post again Devil and I would so love to do that. How hilarious. Right at the important scene-setting bit!!

muggglewump · 12/09/2008 18:55

Which of course is not a bargain. If I'd paid £2.80 it would have been lol

sarah76 · 12/09/2008 18:56

I always smuggle. Sometimes I even bring a backpack! No one has ever asked to look in my bag, but I tend to conceal the stuff if I have my large open handbag with me (just shove 500ml bottles of soda to bottom along with any crisp packets, cover with misc. other stuff). With what they charge, no one should feel guilty for smuggling.

anorak · 12/09/2008 18:56

YANBU

I once (years ago) took my 2 daughters and 2 nephews to the cinema. Tickets cost 25 pounds. Snacks cost 25.50

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:57

muggle I thought at that price you probably lived in Hampstead!

CoolYourJets · 12/09/2008 18:58

TBH Kbear I would normally not have a problem with it but for a birthday treat I would lash out.

Get the comedy huge popcorn and make them share.

2shoes · 12/09/2008 18:59

yanbu
I always smuggle drink in
but as it is a birthday treat you should treat them

southeastastra · 12/09/2008 19:00

can't you sit through a film without munching away

southeastastra · 12/09/2008 19:01

if i can hold off a fag for two hours you can hold off the maltesers

Kbear · 12/09/2008 19:01

I can't afford to lash out unfortunately. This has been an expensive month with one thing and another and I can't magic money that doesn't exist. I think it's still a birthday treat and so does DS.

No YANBU - just get a tardis handbag! I happily buy when I go to the independent local cinema, as they do NOT overcharge, but if others take the piss with pricing, then quite frankly, they do not deserve any custom.

Kbear · 12/09/2008 19:01

SEA - you have to munch to drown out the sound of the people munching....

muggglewump · 12/09/2008 19:04

Ah no Kbear, not Hampstead, the West of Scotland. No Cinema here though
A bus and train ride away, hence we don't go often.
