AIBU to smuggle bottles of water and Maltesers into the cinema tomorrow?

...rather than paying £400 for popcorn and cokes at the counter. Everyone smuggles right?

There is a big sign I noticed last time I went stating a zero tolerance for taking stuff in that you didn't buy there. I think they have a damn cheek and if their prices were at least reasonable not £3.40 for a popcorn I would buy it there.

No one's looking in my massive handbag without a fight but they seriously aren't going to ask me are they?

I am taking DS and his mates for this birthday treat, don't REALLY want to have to scuffle with the girl on the door!!!

Oh God, I hate the prices at these places, it's a disgrace. I'd have no problem with taking my own.

bitsnbobs · 12/09/2008 18:38

YANBU, I went last week and spent £13 on two bags of popcorn and two drinks

Next time I am going to do the same as you

belgo · 12/09/2008 18:39

I would. The problem might be that the children you are taking want the popcorn!

MrsSnape · 12/09/2008 18:39

I smuggle stuff in. I buy bags of sweets from asda (56p a bag) and put them in my handbag. I then smuggle a couple of cartons of orange juice (again about 60p) for the kids.

I spend about £2 on sweets and drinks as opposed to £20 buying from cinema.

Boyswillbeboys · 12/09/2008 18:40

I always take my own! Once the lights are down no-one is going to check!! Although I did once see a man with two DCs being told he couldn't bring his Tesco carrier bag in, but it was in central London so maybe was more security reasons rather than the food police!

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:40

It's already £27.50 for the tickets so adding another £15 on for treats is a JOKE.

When we were kids my Nan used to take the whole street of kids to the pictures and take a trolley full of sandwiches, crisps, drinks, fruit, cakes and spend the whole two hours passing food along the aisles. Whenever I see Star Wars that's all I think about, brings back memories of a nice cheese and pickle sandwich on hunks of bread courtesy of my Nan, bless her!

YANBU but when I was a kid I used to be mortified at my mum/gran doing this. I wanted to be like everyone else!

Twiglett · 12/09/2008 18:41

I always do .. pockets and handbags

GordonTheGopher · 12/09/2008 18:41

I always take my own. If anyone stopped me I would say ds has allergies and I need to know exactly where the food has come from. This is partly true fyi!

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:41

belgo - they can "want" all they like. I will brief them beforehand!! They can have Maltesers or Milky Bars and LIKE IT.

ha ha

I just wondered if they could legally ask to look in my handbag if it looked suspiciously jam packed with goodies!!

I was once stopped as I left a shop by a security guard who accused me of stealing and I refused to let him look in my bag. I told him and the manager that if they thought I was stealing to call the police and I'd pull up a chair and wait and they soon let me go with my haul ha ha

I always take BOGOF supermarket drinks and sweets and we buy popcorn which with the BOGOF stuff we take makes it a cheap buy

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:44

I think if you walk in with a Sainsbury's carrier bar it's pretty obvious but I will be discreet and hide them down my bra!! Ooh, that'll put the kids off won't it.

But seriously, are Cineworld HAVING A LAUGH at £3.40 for popcorn. How is that anywhere near a reasonable price? We go mad and buy it on the odd occasion like when we get Orange Wednesday tickets so only pay half price but when you're taking a bunch of kids it's a no no.

I take in miniature bottles of Prosecco and good chocolates

I end up spending less than I would buying cola and popcorn

I am not kidding

you can get it all from M&S

take a straw

EyeballsintheSky · 12/09/2008 18:47

Wouldn't even occur to me not to. My cousin and I sat there with cups of tea and custard tarts one time, right couple of old biddies we were. Not sure we'd get away with that any more but who in their right mind would pay £5 for a bag of small geezers that would cost you £1 in Sainsbos?

Cappuccino · 12/09/2008 18:47

mini bottles and good chocs fit into my tiny handbag btw

you could always hide a box of Maltesers in a tampon box

Spagblog · 12/09/2008 18:48

No one has ever stopped me and I don't bother to conceal it.

We go to Woolies first, buy our drinks, pick & mix and crisps and walk in brazenly carrying the woolworths carrier bag.

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:48

Capp - loving your style!!

silverfrog · 12/09/2008 18:48

surely that's all just a load of front on the cinema's part? dd1 has an incredibly restricted diet, and can't eat any of the snacks offered at the cinema, so we take stuff along for her (only been twice with her so far...) - I keep waiting for smeone to tackle me about it....

avenanap · 12/09/2008 18:49

I go to the pound shop on the way and buy a few bags of sweets. They shouldn't sell sweets at really high prices and demand you only buy them from there. They argue that the price of the sweets keep the ticket prices down. Rip off if you ask me. I have a local cinema where you can take your own sweets and drinks, the tickets are also cheaper.

ethanchristopher · 12/09/2008 18:49

honestly honestly they wont look in your bag

take stuff with you

the words "daylight" and "robbery" spring to mind when i go to the cinema

muggglewump · 12/09/2008 18:49

YANBU.
We only ever go to the cinema kid's club as it's just too expensive otherwise, especially as I have to get a bus and a train to get there.
I always have water in my bag anyway and I take DD to choose sweets from the cheap markety stall type place first.

I just don't have enough money for the prices they charge, plus if I can get something cheaper or free I will!
