AIBU to smuggle bottles of water and Maltesers into the cinema tomorrow?

...rather than paying £400 for popcorn and cokes at the counter. Everyone smuggles right?

There is a big sign I noticed last time I went stating a zero tolerance for taking stuff in that you didn't buy there. I think they have a damn cheek and if their prices were at least reasonable not £3.40 for a popcorn I would buy it there.

No one's looking in my massive handbag without a fight but they seriously aren't going to ask me are they?

I am taking DS and his mates for this birthday treat, don't REALLY want to have to scuffle with the girl on the door!!!

I always smuggle in!! Back when we had unlimited cards we'd store a crate of cans in the car boot for this very purpose. We'd sometimes treat ourselves to popcorn, but only because we had the unlimited cards and cheap drinks.

mxrni · 23/06/2022 03:21

apparently, no where does it state you arent actually allowed to bring your own things in. as long as they arent super distracting youre fine. just hide your bag in your handbag and enjoy the snacks

KosherDill · 23/06/2022 03:23

It's immoral.

Cinemas make their money on food/drink concessions.

If you don't think it is worth the expenditure, stay home. They don't exist for your convenience.

PeanutButterOnToad · 23/06/2022 04:40

I will buy choc tops ( Australia’s gift to cinema goers) at my local independent cinemas because they are yummy and reasonably priced and you only get them in cinemas, for everything else I am a smuggler.

Remember how it was smokers on the left... like that made a difference to the poor buggers on the right that weren't smoking ha ha

I remember going to see Footloose and smoking a whole pack of ten JPS with my mate - just because we could.

Always take your own stuff.maltesers and minstrels and revels.sorted.weve never had a problem.are you the only adult.
Don't take a bag that looks bulging.take a big enough back it's just looks like it's shape.obviously not a huge bag lol.
Are you the only adult.could you share if not.
Place a scarf over the items or cardi.

Surely it's immoral to charge £4 for the same bag of dairy milk buttons you can buy in Tescos for £2 max? or £1 if you go to the poundshop

I take snacks in my large handbag but buy fresh popcorn from the cinema as I like it fresh.

I'd never have noticed something was amiss if a pp hadn't mentioned Woolies i.e. Woolworths

After the thread about pulling a sickie for 1 day... I'm surprised MN approves of this one!

I do this often though I would buy the popcorn if taking kids friends... sweets in cinema are too expensive my local poundland do a pick & mix.

Luckydog7 · 23/06/2022 05:42

I thought it had been established that it was allowed.

Oh here is an article about. are you going to any of these cinemas OP?

Cyclebabble · 23/06/2022 05:42

I have done this often… tastes better when it is smuggled in.

Gnusmas · 23/06/2022 05:59

I know it's a zombie thread but how do cinemas justify the prices especially since the same snacks can be bought cheaper elsewhere? If they want people to buy then it needs to be competitivepy priced. Otherwise people will buy from other shops & they'll be left with surplus stock.

ReneBumsWombats · 23/06/2022 06:10

I knew it was a zombie when someone mentioned Orange Wednesdays. Resurrected in 2012 and 2022.

MistyRuins · 23/06/2022 06:13

I knew it was a zombie because op was talking about having to snuggle stuff in to the cinema, and that's really a non-issue now.

That's the post that made me🤔

milkysmum · 23/06/2022 06:47

Would never dream of not taking own snacks and drinks in. At our local cinema you often see people say eating a McDonald's too as it's just across the road but I've never actually gone than far myself.

Darbs76 · 23/06/2022 06:48

Oh yeah, I’ve done it many a time

Fairislefandango · 23/06/2022 06:51

I don't think places should be allowed to ban you bringing in a drink, or water at least. I don't like fizzy/sugary drinks, so I always take in a bottle of water.

Bigboysmademedoit · 23/06/2022 06:52

We’ve always taken stuff in BUT last time my DD16 went with her friends they were stopped, checked and told they couldn’t take food & drink in. They had one drink each and a couple of bags of £1 sweets.

Rubygloomy · 23/06/2022 06:52

Our cinema don't care. We openly took Burger King in last time.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 23/06/2022 07:01

Kbear · 12/09/2008 18:43

I just wondered if they could legally ask to look in my handbag if it looked suspiciously jam packed with goodies!!

I was once stopped as I left a shop by a security guard who accused me of stealing and I refused to let him look in my bag. I told him and the manager that if they thought I was stealing to call the police and I'd pull up a chair and wait and they soon let me go with my haul ha ha

No way would I do this as they search bags in my local cinema and would likely deny entry if you declined

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 23/06/2022 07:02

Wow - super cool - the oldest zombie thread I have ever seen

1dontunderstand · 23/06/2022 07:10

🧟‍♀️

Pinkypie86 · 23/06/2022 07:11

We use Cineworld, Showcase or Arc cinemas and always take our own food. We occasionally buy a slush puppy thing or my OH buys a hot dog. Last week we went to watch Jurassic Park, popped into the Tesco over the road and took a meal deal with us.
I always take the rubbish when we leave. I think most people nowadays take in their own snacks.
Do it!

Pinkypie86 · 23/06/2022 07:12

Bloody hell! Zombie thread. Woolies and Orange Wednesdays! Crikey.

transformandriseup · 23/06/2022 07:14

Woah I was 20 when this thread started, living with my parents and able to afford cinema sweets Grin
