To think dh should not have spent £50 on some flowers for my IL'd 50th Anniversary?

Money is tight.

Flowers die.

He went behind my back because he knew I'd be cross.

I am.

I would never dream of spending that much on my parents' anniversary.

AIBU?

If I am I will accept it and not put him in the doghouse tonight!

Because it would mean a 4 hour round trip with a toddler who can currently get out of his car seat and doesn't last more than 10 min without a tantrum in the car!!

OP posts:
Dropdeadfred · 03/09/2008 12:35

why couldn't one of you sit in the back with him?

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2008 12:38

a whole new thread there then

mm22bys · 03/09/2008 12:42

Do you never go in the car now then?

Two hours each way is not far, we went that far just for a day trip on the weekend.

mm22bys · 03/09/2008 12:42

(majorly edited post BTW)

GordonTheGopher · 03/09/2008 12:46

Argh getting attacked now from all sides!

I have said I am unreasonable.

I am now hiding thread.

I agree its £1 for every year - the sybolism is nice. I get where you are coming from about that much money for something which will die...a nice tree to put in the garden would have made more sense.

Personally if someone were going to spend £50 on me I would rather it were on flowers than some foul engraved plaque, glass or ornament that I would have to dust until I could accidentally break it!

I think its lovely that he did it - what a thoughtful son. I cant bear my MIL but still am charmed by hubbys relationship with her...I hope my children are that thoughtful when I have daughters in law who just tolerate me.

Uranus · 03/09/2008 12:57

yet another person flouncing from their AIBU thread.......

can't MN deregister people when they do this?

Bumperlicious · 03/09/2008 12:58

I am wondering if we should address the etiquette of bringing in information from other threads as arsenal for subsequent ones?

Anyway, I can understand where the OP is coming from £50 on flowers? Sure he could have got some more worthwhile and memorable. And GTG your children are beautiful.

solo · 03/09/2008 13:02

I don't think a rose bush or tree is as lovely a gift as a £50 bouquet tbh. These are obviously elderly people that may not get the benefit of watching the rose bush bloom or the tree grow into a sturdy one...

I think as long as the flowers were of a good quality and lasted at least a week, then they were worth the money! So there!

VictorianSqualor · 03/09/2008 13:03

She hasn't flounced
She said she is being unreasonable and has left the thread.
If I admitted to being unreasonable and people Still kept having a go, I'd leave too.

Plus I think it's pretty underhand searching through her old threads to bring up other stuff.

solo · 03/09/2008 13:05

Bumper, GtG has taken her pics off! how sad to feel like that

VictorianSqualor · 03/09/2008 13:10

I think this is a fucking horrible thread however you look at it, and that she has taken her photos down is even worse.

Why on earth her wedding had anything to do with it I don't know

GordonTheGopher · 03/09/2008 13:11

ok ok so I didn't hide the thread...

I never had pictures on my profile!

OP posts:
GordonTheGopher · 03/09/2008 13:12

VS I heart you.

It's ok I'm taking it all in my stride and getting a tougher skin!

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 03/09/2008 13:12

Phew!

(Even if you hide a thread it stays on your 'convos I'm on' that's a better line )

GordonTheGopher · 03/09/2008 13:14

Yes... that's what I meant. Of course I hid the thread!

OP posts:
mrsruffallo · 03/09/2008 13:17

I agee VS it's like a witch hunt on here at times.
Nasty

solo · 03/09/2008 13:17

So why were all these people saying you have beautiful children then?!They must be looking at someone elses! LOL. I didn't think you had pictures on tbh, because I was sure I've looked at your profile before...

Bumperlicious · 03/09/2008 13:21

Sorry it was dropdeadfred's profile I was looking at!

Uranus · 03/09/2008 13:25

Oh yes, dropdead's children are stunning. As is she

solo · 03/09/2008 13:27

Ah! that would explain that then!

WilyWombat · 03/09/2008 13:41

Ohh gosh sorry I didnt read all of this thread...how do people manage to turn a question like this into a row, very strange!

If I were short of money and DH did this I would be annoyed, but am still charmed that your H was this thoughful to his parents.

Dropdeadfred · 03/09/2008 13:50

Thank you ...!!!

How long have you been married GTG?

AbbeyA · 03/09/2008 13:50

I should start thinking of the 60th Anniversary well ahead and then you won't have this problem!
