to think that people should give their children names that "fit" together?

by the way this is only a light hearted thought so please don't get too cross but I read an article in doctors waiting room about Lauren Booth whose daughters are Alexandra and Holly. Now why would you choose elegant, classic, easily shortened, Alexandra and then choose Holly which is in the Milly Molly Mandy school of overly baby girl names imo?

Because she liked both names more than any others when her children were born?

OK so please take this equally light hearted response in the same intention!!!

Friends of mine had Alexander, Olivia and then...............Lara!! They just dont sort of fit together!

You see my sister and I are Samantha and Susanne or Sam and Sue or Sammy and Susie. They fit...

I know a child called Aprilia (named after the motorbike), and she has a brother called Jamie! Two totally different types of names there!!

I know what you mean, i think the same when i hear of siblings, half of which have really unusual names, and the other half have very plain names!

I knew a Sarah with a brother called Monty, that always struck me as a bit odd. But there's no "should" about what other people should call their kids in my book.

My name is v. v. plain and my sisters is very unusual (I have never known anyone with the same name - except an MTV presenter but it's spelt different). Unless it's really different like Montague Cornelius Tarquin something or another and Bob, I would never give it a second thought.

I know what you mean, but in theory it is parents choice.

I have Jessica, Rebecca and Daniel. Goes well I think.

But they will have the names for maybe 90 years or more & will probably only be spoken of together for 18 or so, while they are living in the same house, so why not just go for names you like?

You can go too far the other way - I know a family with 3 girls called Holly, Molly & Polly!

I have two cousins; the elder has an incredibly unusual name and the younger a bog-standard name. My aunt got sick of being asked how to spell DCousin1 name and where it came from. By the time DCousin2 arrived she had decided there was no way she was getting anything other than an ordinary, easily-spelt name.

I'm Stacy, brother is Kenny and twin sisters Jaimee and Teigan.

But then I was 21 years ago Stacy may have been unusual an my sisters were only born 3 years ago so big difference in what is an unusual name I guess.

All my dc name end in ie sounds - think they fit.

im not sure that my dds names fit together, me and dh couldnt agree on a name for dd2 so we ended up letting dd1 chose who clearly chose the most common name from her nursery. whereas dd1 has a name dh says i have made up, and i have never met anyone else with her name.

i wanted to call dd2 anya (family name) angel (after my mum) or alyssa, but dh claimed that they were all made up names. so now dd1 has an uncommen name after family members and dd2s name is just a very plain common name.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with Alexandra and Holly, neither are particularly unusual or special or anything so I don't see why they don't fit.

I have a Lauren, Chloe and Harry, which imo sounds fine, but tbh I didn't really consider wether they'd fit together, I just liked them.

I sort of agree but not with the example you gave. I'm thinking more of the family I know where every child bar one has an Irish name. The other child has a name that is sort of out of date (of the Keith and Trevor era iyswim...)

I know of another family where three children have names beginning with L and one is J.

I always wonder if the child who is different cares or if they like being different to their siblings...

Wouldn't even enter my head to find names that match. I'm not that arsed.

I just picked the names I liked at that moment.

Anyway, what "doesn't fit" for you could be a perfectly logical match for someone else.

what are you on about ? Alexandra and Holly are fine together - not hugely different imo, but really can't think that it matters surely ? Maybe though something plain (no offence) like Ann paired with Isabella might be odd.
