by the way this is only a light hearted thought so please don't get too cross but I read an article in doctors waiting room about Lauren Booth whose daughters are Alexandra and Holly. Now why would you choose elegant, classic, easily shortened, Alexandra and then choose Holly which is in the Milly Molly Mandy school of overly baby girl names imo?

FabioFridgeFluffFrenzy · 08/08/2008 12:39

SheikYerbouti · 08/08/2008 12:46

PuppyMonkey · 08/08/2008 12:46

ghosty - PMSL at Megan being wrong... although she does call her Meg, so maybe it's just me that wrongly assumed it was short for Megan . I do hope it's her that cocked up somehow...

noonki · 08/08/2008 12:59

I don't think names "ought" to sound out of the same box. But, again, I do notice when they don't.

There was an article, years ago, in something like Harpers & Queen about some (posh) 10-child families & running through the name-sequences was such lovely reading. (At least two of the families had finished their brood with a little girl called Decima.)

broccolispears · 08/08/2008 14:05

I read an artical a few weeks ago, and the woman writing it had two little boys; Wilf and Fred.

quickerthistimeplease · 08/08/2008 14:20

I worked with a girl once called Joy- she had 3 sisters all called...Joy

WilfSell · 08/08/2008 15:57

Dolce & Gabbana: rofl

Wilf is a perfectly good name, I'll have you know.

DaphneMoon · 08/08/2008 16:13

How odd Quicker, why would someone call all their daughters by the same name?

quickerthistimeplease · 08/08/2008 16:17

Actually, now I think about it again, I think they were actually all called Angela, but the girl I worked with's middle name was Joy so that's what she called herself. I think another one did the same but 2 did call themselves Angela

sweetkitty · 08/08/2008 16:19

I think my DDs names all kind of go they are all Hebrew not deliberately but because I liked them.

My friend has just had ger 4th DC she has slightly changed a James, Hannah, Harry and a very Spanish new daughter with her other names just sounds odd.

NigellaTheOriginal · 08/08/2008 16:20

not sure what meds mum was on

MrsMattie · 08/08/2008 16:21

PMSL@NIgella. Derek isn't a great name no matter what his siblings were called.

4andnotout · 08/08/2008 16:23

I know of a Porche and Mercedes do you think if they ever have a boy it will be Bentley?
My dp is called Lee and his brother is Perry, im sure his mum must have loved the table sauce

CrayonsUpMyNose · 08/08/2008 17:54

Or you could go too far in the matchy-matchy names, such as Kenten, Trenten, Tristen, and Presten (and she's had one more that I've yet to find out his name)

Or the infamous Duggar family over in the US that have a bazillion kids all starting with the letter "J".

I "matched" my kids' names with that they can have longer more "adult" sounding names or short "kid" sounding nicknames, but otherwise they all have regular non-matchy names.

i did have a lovely friend years ago who was michelle married to michael who had maya and marcus

Shoegazer · 08/08/2008 20:07

What a lot of twaddle! Why on earth do the names of siblings need to "match"? They are people, not a sofa and wallpaper

sickofthisrain · 08/08/2008 20:15

I think Alexandra and Holly are lovely names, separately or together.
But I have Ben and Sam which are a bit matchy matchy now I think about it..
