to think that people should give their children names that "fit" together?

by the way this is only a light hearted thought so please don't get too cross but I read an article in doctors waiting room about Lauren Booth whose daughters are Alexandra and Holly. Now why would you choose elegant, classic, easily shortened, Alexandra and then choose Holly which is in the Milly Molly Mandy school of overly baby girl names imo?

These are the siblings I know - you tell me what fits or not!

Laura, Emma and Faye
Adam, Ashley and Sarah
Hollie and Oliver
Jake and Riley
Isobel, Abigail, Nicole
Thomas and Oliver
Nicola, Natalie and Stephanie
Scarlet and Amber
Olivia and James

sickofthisrain · 08/08/2008 20:28

Hollie and Ollie?? noooo. Rest sound ok to me though..

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/08/2008 20:31

thought the Hollie and Oliver might get picked up! They're my step sisters children.

pointydog · 08/08/2008 20:41

I don't see a problem with Alexandra and Holly. You oddball, bags.

I do think parents should avoid very similar sounding names like Archie and Darcy, and Gemma and Jamie (only two I know of and can think of)

pointydog · 08/08/2008 20:43

ONe of dd1's teachers once said to me, 'oh, you have chosen an old fashioned name for dd1 and a modern one for dd2'. She should really have kept that comment for an internet message board.

pointydog · 08/08/2008 20:44

Scarlet and AMber - no. Not two colours, two flowers or whatver

norkmaiden · 08/08/2008 20:44

Pointy!!

dmo · 08/08/2008 20:48

fanjolina · 08/08/2008 20:48

My DDs are Amelia and Serena. I think their names fit nicely

pointydog · 08/08/2008 20:49

I know of four siblings with place-name names and I always think taht sounds daft. Like a showbizzy group.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/08/2008 20:50

I know a Victoria and Chloe.
But I've always liked Chloe and Sophie.

PortBlacksandResident · 08/08/2008 20:50

My Sisters eldest DD has a name suitable for a future prime minister (think Dr Who)

My sister's youngest DD has a name suitable for a lapdancer.

This is according to my mum btw.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/08/2008 20:51

If I have another girl in the future, I'd love to name them Felicity, my 1st born is Evelyn.
But my surname begins with an F, and I'm not sure if Felicity F is a bit of a mouthfull!

pointydog · 08/08/2008 20:52

You're falling into the trap, elf. Chloe and Sophie. Oh-eee

pointydog · 08/08/2008 20:53

yes, avoid first name starting with same letter as last name.

dmo · 08/08/2008 20:53

my boys are Chris and Ryan
think they sound ok
i chose chris and dh chose Ryan

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/08/2008 20:54

My cousins are Chloe and Sophie so I automatically associate those names

dmo · 08/08/2008 20:55

mt friend has just had her 8th child they all start with the letter J
what happens in that house when post arrives for miss J xxx or mr J xxx???

dmo · 08/08/2008 20:56

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/08/2008 20:57

OOoh yes, DH & his brother both share A as the first name and D as the second name. So lets of letters to Mr A D Surname, got confusing!

noonar · 08/08/2008 20:58

dmo · 08/08/2008 21:00

noonar wait till you have 8 in one house all starting with J

cthea · 08/08/2008 21:00

Last week on holiday there were three little girls: Athena, Olympia and Calypso. None is at a disadvantage compared to her sister.

I think Alexandra and Holly go well. My children are called Samuel and Isaac. I've noticed people have started saying gone for biblical names any particular reason? or was that deliberate? Do you think these names go?
