Shocked that no one helped the girl on the train

14 year old SA in trained

I am being unreasonable in think people need to stop being so absorbed on their phones whilst out in public. It seems no one helpped this child whilst she was being raped because they were too busy on their phones.

Autistic girl, 14, 'sexually assaulted on train by Afghan migrants'

Baryalai Rahimi, 25, and Mirebadurahman Sadat, 29, are said to have spotted the runaway teenager at a station in rural Kent before following her onto the London-bound train on February 5.

I have twice witness teens get sexually assaulted on a train

  • the first was very MC male bankers assaulting a teenage girl after they got on at Canary wharf tube
  • the second was an oldish quite frail man

Both times I was the only person to do anything. Everyone else in the busy commuter carriage just tried to pretend it wasn't happening.

I commuted for years when I was younger and experienced a number of men acting inappropriately towards me (mainly older men who sat too close, 'accidentally' touched me and made inappropriate comments/asked inappropriate questions). I am sure that every time other people in the carriage saw and heard what was happening but all suddenly became very engrossed in their book/phone etc. I have on occasion called men out when I have witnessed them doing similar to other people and no one else was ever willing to get involved. This included when a middle aged man decided to go and sit with girls in their school uniform on the way to school, ask them whether they have boyfriends/have they had sex etc and made inappropriate comments about their bodies/clothing. This particular man had also previously tried to follow me when I got off the train after making inappropriate comments during the journey. I told the station staff and their response was basically that he hadn't actually DONE anything and was probably just wanting to chat. I can quite believe that people on the train may have suspected, even if they didn't know exactly what, that something untoward was going on and decided to keep out of it.

why add undocumented men to the make population. I agree white men rape. So why do we let in more men. Esifvislly since we don’t know a thing about them. At least cruise passengers have passports.

I was very clear about what I think.

If those men were denied entry to the country, this girl would not have been raped in that train toilet.

"denied" on what grounds?

The article simply describes them as "migrants" and does not elaborate, so neither you nor I have any idea of how they arrived in the UK or on what basis they are here.

I'm sure you're not arguing that people from certain countries or demographics should be denied entry to the UK in all cases and irrespective of circumstance, because not only is that inhumane and barbaric, it's also nakedly racist, and I'm sure you're not one of those.

Aye. The girl is collateral damage. A price worth paying in order to demonstrate how humane we are. I get you and I disagree.

This.

Honestly, even just speaking from a purely observational perspective, there seem to be SO many of these crimes committed by asylum seekers. I see at least a few a week. Thats a lot for a supposedly small group of people.

Why do we not see the same committed by any other group? Chinese men? Nigerian men? Filipino men?

There are other cases, this man was charged yesterday with 12 counts of rape (as well as two counts of making indecent images of children, one charge each of causing or inciting sexual exploitation of a child, distributing an indecent image of a child, stalking, making threats to kill, false imprisonment, theft and criminal damage.)

But no one is starting threads about him for some reason.

what would you have done op if you were there - are you sure you would have noticed?

would you have stepped in and approached the men yourself?

its easy to say youd have done better from a distance !

Keepoffmyartichokes · Yesterday 16:32

Having read the article you are making assumptions.
First you are assuming when she was assaulted in the carriage there were other people around it doesn't state that anyone else was present at that point.
The article states she was asked what other passengers in the train where doing, she said they were on their phones. It doesn't state passengers in the same carriage at the time she was on his knee, it could have meant passengers she saw on the way to the toilet.
There are only 2 people to blame in this scenario.
I get a train often and I will often read or look at my phone, are you saying we should all sit looking around us like Meerkats constantly

Even if someone had had a go, who do you think the police would be pursuing?

This country is finished.

The rapists, just as they pursued the man with a knife on the train last year, not the steward who tried to stop him and was hurt himself.

You are unreasonable for reading the daily mail

When children at my child’s nursery were raped I read every article in the news on the court case and I have to say the daily mail were the most comprehensive on their reporting which was actually very useful as the police refused to provide any information until our mp got involved

The lack of attention bothers me. People just zoom in on their phones / books etc and like to zone out to anything that is remotely uncomfortable.

This is a 14 year old girl who was being led to the toilets but two much older men, ofcourse people should have noticed and said something

Led? You mean she was walking along the train behind them? I would think nothing of it unless the girl was visibly distressed or they were manhandling her .

Apotofrealcoffee · Yesterday 16:10

Indeed. Sick to death of it.

Absolutely, totally sick of the “white men rape too narrative to excuse what is going on.”

Nonsense. Why spout such nonsense? You will find that statistically 85% of sexual attacks happen by white British men. In a country that is 82% Caucasian. Meaning that white British men are responsible for more SAs even when pro rata.

Yes, this. I wouldn't have noticed. I'm reading and/or listening to music on the train. I do my best not to catch attention, honestly.

xDown did not say the victim was collateral damage. They said that we cannot police immigration on the basis of race and propensity to rape (which we don't know). What we can do is deport these men after they have served their sentences - I don't suggest they be sent to Afghanistan or wherever to serve because I am not sure they would actually be sent to prison for raping a girl who was 'obviously sexually available' in their eyes or their countrymen's eyes (and not our eyes). We need an orientation course for immigrants on British culture (you know, that culture that doesn't exist).

Goodness me, where do you live? Do you really see at least a few a week rapes committed?
I don’t think I want to know how you see them….unless of course you are talking BS…

The court case details are shown online.

Not so. My DM used to read the Daily Mail. Lots of women do, it is aimed at them. I gave up on the Guardian years ago, too.

Sad to say this is not at all new and not due to staring at phones.

I was taught to scream FIRE if assaulted back before mobile phones existed because people ignore screams for help from women and girls being raped.

Milothebunny · Yesterday 16:44

More to the point why are these animals allowed here to live freely amongst us? Our government are responsible for this and every other crime committed by these monsters and not the other people travelling on the train!!

@Ohhh1

YABU.

Of course it's dreadful what happened, but it's ridiculous to blame the passengers on the train. How on earth were they meant to know what was going on? Confused

When I'm on a train, I have my music in my ears, and a book or magazine in my hand ... I'm not looking around to see if everyone's OK.

The girl was 14. Where were her parents? Why are you not focussing your anger on them? Or (as some posters have said,) the rapists!
