I keep reading about how ‘all women’ fancy him since watching him on traitors. I don’t get it. He’s not funny (on or off traitors), he’s pasty (not pale, pale is cool), was an absolute coward in the mission on the show and fucked his team mates over, and above all of this, is seemingly devoid of any interesting personality.

For those who find him attractive, please explain

Well I don’t watch traitors and I certainly wouldn’t say I fancy him but I do think he can be quite funny. I say ‘started making it. Had a breakdown… Bon appetit’ often after cooking 😂 and the whole cabbage spiel on (I think??) would I lie to you? is hilarious. Comedy is subjective, same as attraction, to state the obvious.
To be fair tho op, this is a very weird thread. There’s no one saying you have to fancy him and it really cannot be the first time in your life you’ve come across the phenomenon of everyone liking different things?!

The cabbage thing was very funny.

He comes across to me as a nice person.

I think he adopts a grumpy persona at times, as does Jack Dee, for example. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's misplaced.

I didn't know that he was autistic, but it doesn't surprise me that he is.

I think he made the right decision in the Traitor's task. They are supposed to fly under the radar, so blundering around and raising suspicion when there was no need was definitely not the way to go, in my opinion.

I enjoyed "Hecklers Welcome". The story about admitting being scared on the train was almost too raw to be funny.

And I want a spinning wheel 😀

So I've read that article, and it quotes what they say in the podcast clip, but I still can't see any misogyny?

James A is pointing out that actors in the series know there is going to be a backlash when they get announced? That isn't misogyny?

Don’t be obtuse - he’s laughing about it because he thinks anyone who works on the HP series are bad faith actors selling their souls to further their careers. All three of the men in that clip are laughing at a woman because they don’t agree with her stance on women’s rights. Otherwise, why was the subject even brought up?

You’re welcome!

But what you've described isn't misogyny?

To me they are laughing at the situation the actors are in, they don't express an opinion at all (in that clip anyway) about whether they agree with JKR or not. What they've said is not being hateful towards women?

Yes. But…is he funny? I’ve literally never seen him be funny. Looking pasty and perplexed seems to be his go to

No you're right. There's only one way to be funny and every single human being finds that specific way funny. It's very niche but that's it. All these other comedians are wasting their time and are not funny to anybody in the entire world. I've seen James Acaster doing his live act on three occasions. Inexplicably I kept laughing at his routine. Other people there were also laughing. It was thought provoking but also making us laugh. The only explanation is that he had filled the venue with nitrous oxide. But I also laughed at his netflix series, so I'm not sure how that happened because I was at home.

Is it mean or is it just being honest? We all find different things attractive and conversely also find different things unattractive. I find short men unattractive - they can’t help being short, am I being mean? I find a strong Liverpool accent unattractive too. So Stephen Graham is well down on my list of men whom I find attractive! I’m sure there are many people who would find me unattractive and I’m ok with that. They’re not being mean.

A lisp is very different to an accent.

Oh god he’s loathsome isn’t he.

Hmm yeah I may have just gone off him lol. Still like Ed he seems nice enough and didn't go on a massive rant so there's that.

ThisOldThang · Yesterday 21:45

I've only seen him on the Traitors. He just seems so unbearably dull. He's not said a single thing that's either interesting or funny. Now he's gone and outed himself because he just can't deal with the guilt of being a traitor. 🙄

Sugarleaf · Yesterday 21:45

What an absolute twat. Don’t go on a fucking game if you don’t want to play it

OP posts:
Bubstar · Yesterday 21:51

Exactly. Oh I'm such an honest and good guy. The honest thing about playing a game called the TRAITORS is to lie. That's the name of the game. Dont join in if you won't play the game or is using it as a PR exercise to look like Mr Nice Guy, you slimey toad.

Yes, I thought traitors couldn't out themselves like that. Don't they have to take an 'oath' when they get given the cloak? He should have waited and let the faithful decide to vote them out or not on their own.

To be fair Richard e grant pretty much did it too,

james just wanted out, he saw his opportunity and took it. I was just shocked they were all saying he stayed true ro himself, when in reality he just coughed as soon as he got heat, he wasn’t caught, that vote could have went ro someone else.

Pancakeflipper · Yesterday 22:07

I like James Acaster. Seen him live quite alot (my eldest thinks he is funny so we've been to shows over the years).
I find him vulnerable, like loads on comedians.
I hope he's ok, and social media doesn't turn this into an OTT personal attack - you know, like referring to his lisp as a negative.

Oooooh no. I couldn't fancy him if he was the last man on earth! 😖

A 3 out of 10 IMO.

Each to their own though. He's not remotely attractive IMO. As you say, boring, unfunny, and not physically attractive.

Yes, but I think Richard just messed up, whereas James didn't have to confess.

I think there was definitely a bit of rewriting history when they said he stayed true to himself. He may not have wanted to be a traitor, but he plotted and murdered in the turret along with the other traitors. He wasn't 'spreading breadcrumbs' for the faithful but was covering his own identity trying to appear faithful. But anyway, if that's the way he wants to remember it so be it.

I think he has said elsewhere that he disagrees with JKR's views, albeit I think he is - or was - a big Potter fan. And I disagree with him on that point! But I do agree with him that certain actors who accepted roles in the new HP series and/or audiobook are being entirely disingenuous when they pretend they haven't heard about any sort of controversy. They should just own it, and either say they agree with her, or that it is entirely possible to enjoy someone's writing without agreeing with every opinion that person has.

God, some of the posts on this thread are awful. Good job you’re all so attractive and talented isn’t it

Me too! I love James. I've been a fan for ages and got to see him doing stand up recently - he was really funny. And I agree about his vulnerability - he makes me feel all maternal and protective, and I'm as far from being a mama bear as it gets!

He was brought up Christian but has since rejected it.

That's not what his book says. He might not actively go to church but he certainly hasn't rejected it or the community.

Not that there is anything wrong with it but I personally would find it a huge ick.

Interesting - I think something went down that the producers didn’t think they could air. Like him having a massive panic attack/breakdown under questioning and revealing he was a traitor that way. The reactions when he “confessed” didn’t seem that genuine I think it was staged or at least carefully edited because they decided they couldn’t air what actually happened.

He freaked out on bake off too. His agent probably shouldn’t let him do anymore high pressure shows!
