I'm sorry. That is very hard luck.

The weather is so terrible here too.

I've had some terrible holidays, mainly really substandard accommodation. I have cried tears at a couple of the places we've ended up in. Years later we laugh when we remember them.

HappyViewer · Yesterday 22:22

Could you book some excursions?

Livingthebestlife · Yesterday 22:25

I think this is everyone's fear when they go on holiday. I think we all get caught out at least once. I find the best way of coping is eating and drinking 😁 maybe you could look up some indoor activities, not the same but will get your mind busy. Hopefully the weather changes.

Turkey isn’t great outside of the summer months, the weather is so unpredictable. There is a lot to see and do in Turkey tho- full of history to explore, however sometimes the attractions close for winter.

Where abouts in Turkey are you?

WhyGetInvolved · Yesterday 22:26

That’s a horrible feeling, I’m sorry it’s not been good weather. That’s the reason we haven’t been away for a couple of years, for various reasons can’t go in summer and feeling like if we went in Easter or October and it wasn’t warm we’d feel exactly like this.
Sometimes you just need the heat, and when it’s not there it’s really disappointing.
Hopefully it’ll improve, or you will find something to do. Can you get out of the resort? It’s maybe not the holiday you planned but some culture always makes up for it.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · Yesterday 22:26

Just don’t understand these numerous threads by people upset that summer holiday destinations are rainy in late October? The summer season ends in September for a reason.

PopcornKitten · Yesterday 22:28

Does this hotel not have loads of activities for your DC?
what a shame about the weather. Unfortunately as the season in Turkey draws to a close the weather gets more rainy and cooler.
i hope the rest of your holiday gets better for you

Growingaseed · Yesterday 22:31

Surely you knew the cheap October prices came with a risk of bad weather?

People have much worse times than that. It's the brides that drag everyone out for a July wedding in Italy and it rains who I feel sorry for! Not someone going away in October & wondering why it rains!

Kindly I think you need to get a grip and make the most of it. No reason not to go for a swim. Play some board games. Go on some excursions/find indoor activities.

mamaof4losingmymind · Yesterday 23:13

I'm sorry you're having a rubbish time but its the end of October

Weewah · Yesterday 23:20

If it makes you feel the slightest bit better, we’re in the US on holiday after a traumatic, exhausting few years, and we’ve all got Covid and are barely leaving our hotel room we feel so weak.

What is a "summer holiday destination"?

What is a "summer holiday destination"?

Presumably holiday destinations that are reliably warm and sunny in the summer (Spain, Turkey, Greece) and therefore provide the swimming and sunbathing opportunities that many holidaymakers are looking for. Unfortunately summer prices are so expensive that people try to book this experience at cheaper times of year and find you can't do "summer holiday" activities at the end of October. It is such a shame if a lot of money has been spent.

For reliable October weather you need to travel at least to the Canary Islands or Egypt/Morocco. Possibly Cyprus. Otherwise long haul.

This. Did you do any research about weather before you booked for the end of October? Most of the northern hemisphere is entering the autumn/winter period now. Fair enough the weather in Turkey or Greece or Spain isn’t generally as bad as the UK but it still isn’t going to be 30 degrees and sunny at the end of October…

OneoftheWeddingPeople · Today 05:01

Sumner holiday destinations are places centred round having fun in the sun 🙄. Isn’t that obvious? Weird question. Going to a resort by the sea with outdoor pools in Spain or turkey when it’s rainy is akin to going skiing and not having any snow.

There often isn’t much else to do as the assumption is you’re on the beach or by the pool then wandering round a pretty town to pick an outdoor restaurant.

We did city breaks in October. Or somewhere with the beach if you get the weather but also other stuff if you don’t. South of France is a good option.

Solotravelwonder · Today 05:30

Sorry to hear this. Same happened to us in Turkey in early June one year. Haven't been back since and look bad with only bad memories of Turkey.

The canaries are much more reliable weather wise at this time of year. That's where we go now every winter and get 20 degrees most days, which is a lot better than the freezing temps at home at the same time.

DemonsandMosquitoes · Today 06:49

We’ve had gorgeous weather in late October in Southern Spain. More than once. That or the Canaries/Morocco. Wouldn’t risk anywhere else without going long haul at this time of year.

Mozza77 · Today 06:50

Get hold of Serkan at come n drive and go on a full day buggy excursion and he’ll take you to the Lycian way which is amazing history, doesn’t matter if it’s raining! Wear sports kit cos you get muddy! Best day ever over there! Or book mr animals day, water fights and kids friendly! Spend a day in a hamaam, go up babadag in the cable cars, the dolmus will take you. Plus it’s Tuesday so the market will be on in Fethiye! Loads to do round that hotel!

ChateauMargaux · Today 06:53

The weather this week is unusually wet in many places that usually have nice October weather. It is a duff roll of the dice, you are not unreasonable to feel sad.

(It rained an unseasonal amount on my honeymoon and lots of the planned excursions were cancelled.)

Flamingbanana214 · Today 06:55

Turkey seems to be very hit and miss, with a very short sunny/warm season . We went in May and the weather wasn't great.

If it makes you feel better bad weather has followed me on every holiday this year , including driving rain in Budapest when river cruises were cancelled due to drought. I even managed to cool Seville down to mid 20's,cloud and light rain in August when it should have been 40°.

Go to Marrakesh, at those times you wouldn’t be disappointed

heekylel · Today 07:06

Oh I’m so sorry OP. We were looking at Turkey next year and I ended up not booking for October half term as I heard how volatile the weather is. I was surprised as I thought Turkey was a common October destination, I’m sorry you’ve been unlucky.

It was cold, raining and hailstoning in Marrakech in April this year. It did brighten up towards the end of the week but I had to go shopping for more trousers and jumpers.

And even more baffling that they can't possibly find anything to do in bad weather. We had three days of rain and four days of freezing wind on a 9-day holiday and had a fabulous time. Walked, read on the beach wrapped in blankets, went on a boat trip, still went swimming every morning, took a local bus to the nearest large city for a mooch about, visited some old forts... It wasn't a beach holiday but it was still lovely and nobody was upset in a hotel room.

HatethedarknightsQW · Today 07:15

I’ve happy memories of many rainy holidays where we played endless games of cards and monopoly very competitively as teenagers. Admittedly we were in a caravan in wales and hadn’t spent a lot of money. But we’d play table tennis tournaments in the caravan club house. Is there a pool table even or any indoor activities set up? Make the most of the food. Go shopping in the local town ( don’t buy a carpet).

TheChosenTwo · Today 07:19

Ah op what a shame.
we went early October 2 years ago and were told we were really lucky as October is reallt unpredictable (although it was the first week in October) - didn’t even need sleeves in the evening.
What’s a holiday village, is it a group of accommodation centred around a communal pool? Or an AI hotel?
just wondering if there are any group activities you could book yourselves into for at least a part of the day.
